Quick Transmigration: The Cannon Fodder's Comeback in the Era Tales

Chapter 65: Chapter 65: The Poor Little Thing Killed by Her Uncle 21

In these times, everyone loves eating fatty meat. When the lady saw her asking for three pounds of pure lean meat, she thought the child didn’t know better and said, ”Yuan Chun, that lean meat is tough and dry, not good to eat. How can it compare to fatty meat? You should get more fatty meat. When you go home, you can render lard and eat the pork cracklings, they’re fragrant and delicious.”

”Auntie, I like eating lean meat.”

Crispy little pieces of lean meat are tastier than pork cracklings.

However, Yuan Chun wouldn’t say it outright.

These days, everyone uses just a tiny bit of oil to cook. Some families even boil their vegetables without any oil. If she said she used oil to fry lean meat, wouldn’t it bring more resentment towards her?

The lady didn’t say anything further upon hearing she liked it.

The old village chief spoke up, ”Yuan Chun is a child of a martyr from our village. Our community should take extra care of her. Er Niu, give her another pound of lean meat. Also, give her a few large bones so she can take them home for soup.”

”Thank you, village chief grandpa.”

Yuan Chun smiled with eyes curving into crescents.

The villagers had no objections.

After all, the village had a responsibility to care for martyrs’ children. Moreover, Yuan Chun only wanted the lean meat that others didn’t want. Giving her an extra pound wasn’t a big deal amidst so much meat.

Er Niu was the village butcher.

Er Niu cut the meat and put it into Yuan Chun’s little basket.

The lady reached out to help her carry it, but Yuan Chun smiled and said, ”Auntie, I can carry it. I still want to buy two pig ears and a set of offal.”

Spicy pig ears, stir-fried pig stomach, braised intestines, marinated pig liver, noodle soup with chitterlings... these are her favorites.

These delicacies aren’t something she could eat every day, but since she had the opportunity now, she definitely wouldn’t miss it. She even brought her wooden bucket for the offal.

The lady also noticed her wooden bucket and laughed, ”Are you sure you can eat that much? Then again, it doesn’t cost much anyway. You can have your second brother take it back for you.”

”Alright, thank you, auntie.”

After expressing her thanks, Yuan Chun turned to Er Niu and said, ”Uncle Er Niu, I want to buy the offal and two pig ears.”

Er Niu laughed heartily, ”The offal is tricky to cook. If not done right, it smells bad. I didn’t expect you, young girl, to have a taste for this, hahaha...”

Yuan Chun gave him a disdainful look, ”I’m good at cooking, you know.”

The lady chimed in, ”Er Niu, don’t make fun of my Yuan Chun. Her cooking skills are inherited from her mother and are even better than mine.”

”Wow, I didn’t think you, little girl, were so talented. Alright then, I’ll get you the offal.”

Er Niu happily fetched her the largest set of offal, along with two of the largest pig ears, and placed them in her basket.

The accountant stood by, keeping records and collecting money.

Yuan Chun paid two yuan and eighty cents, then with her second cousin, took the meat and offal home.

Smiling, Yuan Chun said, ”Second brother, once I cook the offal, I’ll bring some over for you to taste. It’s very good.”

”Alright, I’ll be waiting to feast.”

Her second cousin also helped fill up the water tank before going back to the community center to oversee the meat distribution.

Meanwhile, Yuan Chun stayed home boiling water, handling the offal.

Halfway through, Cheng Fang came over with meat.

”Yuan Chun, let’s spend the New Year together. I’ll give you all the meat. I’ll come over for New Year’s at your place, and you can make me some braised pork.”

Cheng Fang knew Yuan Chun loved lean meat, so he specifically exchanged his work points for three extra pounds of lean meat, making a total of eight pounds in his basket.

Yuan Chun revealed her uneven teeth with a big smile, ”Sure, but you’ll have to come early to help me with the fire. I’ll cook delicious food for you.”
