Urban All-Round Master

Chapter 387: Chapter 389: Know How to Play Basketball, Don’t You?

Chapter 389: Can He Play Basketball?

”Sister Hua, have you found someone?”

At this moment, one of the six, a guy who was tall and intimidating in appearance, stepped forward to ask.

His formidable height could give King Kong from those American films of previous years a run for its money.

”All set, we must win today’s game, we absolutely cannot lose,” Huahua seemed too excited, almost forgetting to introduce Lin Zifeng’s presence.

But Zifeng wasn’t in a hurry, standing quietly behind them, also unsure what today’s game was all about.

”All set? Where is he?” the six exchanged puzzled looks.

”Right here!” Liu Tangtang seemed even more excited than Huahua, hastily pointed at the silent Lin Zifeng and said with a smile.

Clearly, she still held hope for Lin Zifeng.

”Him?”

Instantly, the six on-site nearly burst out laughing.

They all cast weird glances at Lin Zifeng, then their eyes filled with a hint of terror again.

The expressions on everyone’s faces were very peculiar.

Compared to Lin Zifeng’s slim figure, these guys were built like beasts – not even in the same league.

You should know, all six were from Yunhai University’s Department of Physical Education, the big guys among the big guys, their pectoral muscles were almost comparable to a woman’s.

They just couldn’t believe that the revered Sister Hua would invite such a player for the game.

Was this not self-torment?

How on earth were they to play this game?

A standard basketball game usually registers up to twelve players, with five on the court and the rest changing or resting midway to prevent fouling, among other things.

There were already six players on the field, the game could still go on, but Huahua insisted on dragging this guy in. How were they to play?

With his scrawny stature and basketball skills, was that going to cut it?

All six were not very optimistic about Lin Zifeng.

Even Huahua initially didn’t have much faith in him either; if it weren’t for Liu Tangtang’s strong recommendation, Huahua would never have agreed to let him join the game.

But what’s done is done, they had already arranged today’s game with the others; they couldn’t just say they wouldn’t play, right?

”What’s wrong? He’s really awesome!” Liu Tangtang hurriedly introduced them.

”Him? Sister Hua, are you serious?” someone started to doubt their great Sister Hua’s judgment. Why choose this subpar guy?

This guy was just too inferior, wasn’t he?

Not to mention his basketball skills, but without a height of one meter ninety, they found it hard to believe he was also an ace player.

On the side, Lin Zifeng was nonchalant; in fact, he had never actually played basketball before.

In high school, he had seen others play, but he himself was merely an observer. Having him on the court playing basketball was indeed a hassle.

”What’s wrong?” Seeing that the crowd didn’t seem too optimistic about Lin Zifeng, Huahua pursed her lips, thought for a moment, and felt their concerns weren’t unwarranted.

But then again, they already had enough players, so in the worst case, Lin Zifeng could just be a substitute.

Better to have enough players, anyway.

”Isn’t he a bit too inferior?” the fierce-looking guy motioned to Huahua and whispered in her ear.

”I get what you mean. If worse comes to worst, we’ll just have him as a substitute. Anyway, we have enough players; the game should be able to continue,” she said in a teasing tone.

”Oh! Okay then.” The tall guy nodded, showing his agreement and approval.

If they could have found a better teammate at the moment, they wouldn’t have even considered letting Lin Zifeng participate, but now that Huahua had spoken, they simply nodded in agreement.

After all, Hua Buqi was recognized as one of Yunhai’s campus beauties!

The school beauty has spoken, who would dare to reject her?

”You! Come here!” At this moment, Huahua beckoned to Lin Zifeng, who had been quietly waiting.

”What’s up?” Zifeng asked, confused.

”You know how to play basketball? Do you even know what basketball is?” Huahua said nonchalantly. After all, he was just a substitute, she wasn’t concerned.

Of course, her tone was not as polite as before.

Even the tall brute next to Huahua, who looked as tough as a wild animal, also haughtily beckoned to Lin Zifeng, patted his shoulder, and said with a laugh, ”Buddy, you’re a new student, right? Know how to play basketball? You know what basketball is, right?”

Zifeng didn’t say anything, this guy really thought too highly of himself.

As if he were the only one in the world who played basketball.

Seeing his haughty attitude irked Lin Zifeng.

But Zifeng didn’t care to argue with a little kid.

He said with a beaming smile, ”Haven’t played before, but I can give it a try.”

”Haven’t played before?” Instantly, this sentence hit them like a heavy bomb, dropping hard on their hearts.

A newbie who hasn’t played basketball, wouldn’t he just drag the team down once he gets on the court?

”You’ve never played basketball?” someone exclaimed in disbelief.

They couldn’t imagine how a contemporary college student had never played basketball? It was unscientific!

In the universities today, almost anyone slightly athletic knew how to play basketball, didn’t they?

”Really never played,” Lin Zifeng nodded seriously.

He was telling the truth. He had indeed never played basketball growing up.

Plus with his personality, he had never taken much interest in basketball since childhood. Not to mention, during his high school years, when did he have the time to play basketball?

It was quite something for a school to even have an open space for students to use.

Hiss!

In an instant, all the people present sharply inhaled.

Nobody could believe their ears and thought they had misheard.

”Huahua, Huahua! He... he actually has never played basketball!”

At this moment, Hua Buqi was also somewhat shocked, realizing that the person she’d brought in was a certified newbie.

All that time spent teasing had been a waste.

...

Now, everyone present was stunned.

Even Liu Tangtang, who had always supported Lin Zifeng, was at a loss for words. After all that fuss, he was indeed a newbie, and a complete one at that.

In the end, everyone discussed the matter.

Since he was already here, they might as well let Lin Zifeng be a substitute and pass the ball for them at the back.

After briefly explaining the rules of basketball, Lin Zifeng got the gist of the game’s rules and how to play.

However.

The six players didn’t hold out much hope for the newbie.

To put it plainly.

He was just there to make up the numbers.

In harsher terms, he was ’filler’.

It wasn’t until the group played a few warm-up matches on the training court that Lin Zifeng still didn’t take much of a liking to basketball.

Playing basketball might look cool and win the girls’ favor, and at most, it was just a form of exercise.
