Chapter 370: Chapter 372 I Feel Like I

Chapter 372 I Feel Like an Arrow

It was not until half an hour later, under Nangong Bing’s constant urging, that he finally strolled out of the room at a leisurely pace.

Seeing Nangong Bing sitting at the dining table, her delicate eyebrows occasionally furrowed and her expression somewhat desolate, the beautiful jade-like countenance lacked the usual icy and arrogant composure.

Zifeng found it odd. Had she been sleeping poorly recently, or was there something troubling her?

Zifeng walked slowly to the dining table and tenderly handed her the glass of milk. His movements were so gentle, but Nangong Bing held a knife in one hand and a fork in the other. There was just a small piece of bread in the bowl that she hadn’t touched for a long while. This made Zifeng feel a bit heart sore and regretful. Had the little interlude from earlier actually made Nangong Bing angry?

With this in mind, Zifeng’s rough voice gradually softened, as he asked in a low tone, ”What’s wrong? Are you worried about something?”

Nangong Bing just slowly lifted her exquisite forehead and didn’t feel any comfort from Zifeng’s gentleness, instead her brows furrowed even tighter.

The Tianyu stock market had recently plummeted. The distribution market fell drastically, especially since several departments under the group had achieved their lowest sales performance in the few short months since she took charge of Tianyu, something that made Nangong Bing, who was usually particularly strict with her work, very upset.

She had spent almost all her time every day trying to slowly expand and strengthen Tianyu. Within just a year, Tianyu had indeed risen, but in the recent couple of months, Tianyu’s domestic and international sales performance had plummeted, and the stock market had also suffered successive setbacks, falling to an all-time low.

It felt like a regression to the state of one year ago.

”It’s nothing,” Nangong Bing said indifferently.

”Nothing?” Zifeng became even more puzzled. ”I’ve noticed you’ve been frowning a lot recently. Is there something on your mind? If there’s something bothering you, just come and talk to me. If you’re really upset, you can bite me. Bite until you feel better. After all, my skin is thick, and my flesh is tough. I’m just worried you might chip a tooth.”

”Pfft—”

Nangong Bing was suddenly amused by Zifeng’s ridiculous remark and coquettishly smiled as she said, ”Do you think I’m a dog?”

”Er, that’s right, just smile more. Actually, boss, you look quite pretty when you smile. You shouldn’t always have a face that looks like everyone owes you millions. It makes it hard for people to approach you, even for a bold man like me, sometimes it’s too much to handle. Hey, that’s right, yes, keep it up, good, good, you should smile more.”

His antics, full of sound and expressiveness, caused Nangong Bing to burst into charming laughter again, sweeping away the gloom in her heart.

But as soon as she remembered him mentioning ”morning wood” to her earlier that morning, the anger in Nangong Bing’s heart was stoked once more.

Luckily, Zifeng’s mouth was as sweet as if he had eaten honey peaches today, alternating between praising her beauty and saying how pretty her smile was, managing to entice even a proud and cold woman like Nangong Bing to beam with joy.

It was only after breakfast was over that Zifeng secretly wiped off the cold sweat from his forehead.

”Damn! That nearly killed me.” In order to cheer up his wife, he had racked his brain.

Just as he was about to leave, Nangong Bing suddenly turned her graceful head and smiled faintly at Zifeng. He nearly peed himself in fright, thinking she had caught him eyeing her plump and full backside.

”Zifeng.”

Nangong Bing called out his name softly, with her teeth lightly touching her lips.

”Ah?! What’s up?” Zifeng was a bit panicked.

”Thank you.”

”Thank me? For what?” Zifeng was puzzled, his head a complete mush.

”Thank you for cheering me up when I was feeling down,” Nangong Bing said softly.

In her heart, she contemplated that this guy in front of her wasn’t entirely bad. At least when she was at her most depressed, he was able to be somewhat useful. Hm, perhaps she had been too harsh on him before, and maybe now she should reassess her opinion of him. Maybe he wasn’t as bad as she had thought.

At this thought, Nangong Bing’s heart felt somewhat touched.

”It’s no big deal. If you need someone to talk to in the future, you can always reach out to me,” Zifeng said, patting his chest with a laugh.

”Mm,” Nangong Bing just nodded slightly.

”By the way, how’s everything going with Huahua’s school situation?”

”Is everything still smooth?” Nangong Bing suddenly asked.

Just fine, until Nangong Bing had to ask, and then Lin Zifeng felt a surge of intense annoyance.

He had agreed with Nangong Bing to present himself as her bodyguard, and now he actually turned into a bodyguard! Even Huahua and Liu Tangtang had started to treat him like a bodyguard, which left Lin Zifeng feeling helpless.

Now it was even worse, Huahua had become addicted. She no longer just considered him a bodyguard, but also a cheap nanny.

”She’s been doing fine, but I’ve had a harder time,” Lin Zifeng quipped.

”What? Are you unhappy about returning to campus?” Nangong Bing looked at him with a peculiar gaze.

Er, Lin Zifeng was once again embarrassed. He really couldn’t fathom what Huahua had told her to convince a CEO of a listed company to send him back to school to be a student again.

Just to protect Huahua and that’s it?

Isn’t that a waste of resources?

”I just don’t get it. How could a CEO of an international corporation think about sending me to school with a bunch of bratty kids?”

”Who said you were going to school?” Nangong Bing said, surprised.

”Wasn’t it you who asked me to join Huahua and the others at Yunhai University? Hey, hey, hey, boss, you can’t just mess with people like that.”

”I merely wanted you to be responsible for picking up Huahua for school, I never said you had to attend classes, too. Besides, you’re in your twenties, are you still trying to act young? Planning on mixing with kids?”

Actually, the reason Nangong Bing agreed to Huahua’s request was mainly because Huahua had mentioned she lacked a bodyguard and felt unsafe going to and from school. That’s why she asked Lin Zifeng to be responsible for their transportation, but somehow Huahua and her father had arranged everything behind her back, even admitting Lin Zifeng to school through their connections. To this day, Nangong Bing was in the dark about it.

Last time Lin Zifeng called her about it, Nangong Bing didn’t pay much attention to the situation, which was why it had dragged on for several days.

What the hell!

What kind of game were they playing?

Were they messing with him? Fooling him?

Lin Zifeng felt ridiculous, like he was being used as a pawn.

”Then why did Huahua tell me that you had agreed to let me go to school with her? They even got my student pass sorted out. My name is still registered in the Archaeology Department of Yunhai University. If you don’t believe me, you can call and ask.”

”Really?” Nangong Bing asked.

”Could it be false?” Lin Zifeng practically wanted to shout a couple of times.

Nangong Bing immediately took out her phone and dialed Huahua’s number, and it turned out exactly as Lin Zifeng had described. Behind her back, Huahua had indeed arranged a new identity for Lin Zifeng, using her father’s connections to register him at Yunhai University. The reason Huahua gave was quite clear, though.

She was scared because she was so beautiful and well-known, worried that people with bad intentions might target her. Just when she needed a bodyguard, they recruited Lin Zifeng to accompany her to school. After all, Lin Zifeng’s registration was in the rarely chosen Archaeology Department, and nobody would say anything even if he didn’t attend classes.

Listening to Nangong Bing’s conversation with Huahua, Lin Zifeng nearly knew he had been hit by the arrow. Seeing Nangong Bing continually nodding, he guessed the little girl had started lying to get her cousin to agree again.

It looked like he really had to become a genuine student.

And he’d be that kind of errand-running double agent, too.

A call from Nangong Bing, and he had to return to the company.

A call from the little girl, and back to school he went.

Sometimes he wondered, why was his life so pathetic?
