Chapter 376: Those Who Bully Zhang Xixi

...

”We can’t do this. I won’t agree!” Inside the room, Zhang Xixi’s firm gaze and strong tone made it difficult for Wu Pudgy to proceed.

Wu Pudgy, with a cold face, sneered, ”Aren’t you afraid that when you wake up tomorrow, your father will have become disabled?”

”You!” Zhang Xixi’s eyes were somewhat moist. With both hands forcefully twisting the bedsheet, she looked at Wu Pudgy who had already taken off his coat, leaving only his underwear. The idea of suicide crossed her mind.

If he hadn’t repeatedly threatened her, Zhang Xixi would never have come out with him, let alone go to a hotel—a behavior scorned as promiscuous in rural areas.

Zhang Xixi was a true farmer’s child who had come from another province to work in the city. Her family had always been poor. Her mother had left her at an early age, and she had wandered with her father for many years before finally obtaining her bachelor’s degree last year. She had hoped to use her capabilities to change her family’s circumstances, only to find that bachelor’s degrees were a dime a dozen in Zhonghai City.

Recently, as she was without any relatives, her father, not wanting to impact his daughter, found work on a local construction site in Zhonghai City, earning a scant income through physical labor to support her.

Latterly, during a large talent conference, she was noticed by Nangong Bing, resulting in a ”from sparrow to Phoenix” miracle for Zhang Xixi. Out of caution, she had focused entirely on her work throughout the year, never inquiring about company affairs. Through her doubled efforts, she finally became the current finance director.

As she had previously incurred a huge educational debt, her father couldn’t bear to see his newly employed daughter overburdened and insisted on working at the construction site to alleviate some of her pressure.

Then, Zhang Xixi’s beauty caught the eye of Minister Wu. It happened that her father’s construction site was one of the companies in which Minister Wu had invested.

Just a few days ago, there was a report of a major collapse at the construction site.

Before the causes were clear, the foreman on the site blamed everything on Zhang Xixi’s father.

On top of that, Minister Wu had been relentlessly pursuing her, coinciding with this incident.

Now, Minister Wu had already detained Zhang Xixi’s father, and if Zhang Xixi did not comply with his demands, he would place the entire blame for the site collapse on her father, who would certainly not escape legal punishment.

Under duress, this was also why Zhang Xixi hadn’t come to work these past few days.

”Xixi, rest assured, if you make me happy today, not only will I take care of your father’s issue, but I could even make him a foreman at the construction site. Moreover, as long as I, Wu, am in the company, you will never lack benefits. Following me would be much better than a woman like you struggling alone outside, right?”

At this moment, Wu Pudgy continuously threw out tempting offers, hoping to get Zhang Xixi’s agreement.

”Minister Wu, we had agreed that today we were just going to talk. By doing this now, aren’t you afraid of your wife? If our affair gets out, how could you face your wife and children?” Zhang Xixi clenched her fists tightly, somewhat annoyed but also somewhat helpless. Her father’s life was now in her hands.

In the cutthroat society of Zhonghai City, those without money are always outside the law.

The law is always a protective circle made for those with money and power.

”Don’t mention that shrew to me! I’ve tolerated her for a long time! If you agree to follow me, I’ll divorce her immediately tomorrow.” Clearly, the mention of his wife irritated Wu greatly.

Originally, he had attained his current position largely thanks to his wife’s support.

However, he had always felt uncomfortable due to being constantly marginalized by his wife over the years.

”You... you’re too heartless!” Zhang Xixi tried to calm her fluctuating emotions. She gritted her teeth and said.

”Heh, heartless and ungrateful? What kind of society are we in now, how can you call this heartless and ungrateful? Liking someone means liking them, not liking means not liking. Just like how I feel about you, Xixi, since I like you, I would try everything to get you. To possess you. Just keep me company today, and I guarantee your life will be ten thousand times better than it is now,” Wu the Fat sneered.

While he spoke, he began to slowly walk towards Zhang Xixi.

”What, what do you want to do? Don’t, don’t come any closer!” Zhang Xixi was very scared, but also somewhat helpless.

”Xixi, I’m not criticizing you, but as a girl without a wealthy and powerful man by your side, you really want to take Nangong Bing from Tianyu Group as your role model? She’s a rare woman in Zhonghai City, seen maybe once in a century. It’s fine to admire her, but don’t forget your current status! If you don’t want your father to be in trouble, heh heh. I won’t say the rest. You figure it out!”

By the end of his talk, Wu the Fat’s face started to twist into a grotesque expression.

He gradually got in front of Zhang Xixi and began to reach towards her outer jacket.

Thinking of her poor father, tears involuntarily started streaming down Zhang Xixi’s cheeks.

Her father’s fate was now literally in her hands.

If she couldn’t make Wu the Fat happy today, she feared the worst for her father.

With that thought, tears slowly slid down Zhang Xixi’s cheeks.

She had prepared herself, to give her father some money for him to return to their hometown and never come back, once he was safely out. Later, she would find a secluded place to end her life. That way, she could preserve her final dignity.

Zhang Xixi closed her eyes.

Her eyes were moist.

She looked utterly soulless, letting Wu the Fat begin to take off her jacket.

But just as Wu the Fat was about to unbutton her white blouse, a knock at the door came from the outside.

”Damn it!” Wu the Fat felt a surge of irritation; he was almost about to make his move when this interruption occurred.

Standing up, Wu the Fat cursed under his breath and opened the door in a very bad mood, only to find the charming woman who had checked him into the room appearing outside, looking at Wu the Fat with a terrified gaze.

”What? You want to have a go with me too?” Wu the Fat leered.

”It’s not her who wants to play with you, it’s me who wants to play with you, Minister Wu.”

At that moment, a figure emerged from behind the woman. Lin Zifeng smiled casually.

”It’s you!”

Wu the Fat was surprised.

”It’s rare for Minister Wu to remember me. It really warms my heart,” Lin Zifeng said, a playful smile playing around the cigarette in his mouth.

”You, you guys?” At this moment, Wu the Fat was also taken aback.

”Oh, don’t mind us, we’re just ordinary friends, not what you’re thinking,” Lin Zifeng shrugged nonchalantly, laughing it off.
