After rejecting my celebrity husband

Chapter 596: Chapter 600 A Slap in the Face [1]

”It was the newly arrived music director, Director Xu. At the time, she took the contracts of several female artists, including Su Jin, with your personally signed note, mentioning she planned to reposition these artists of the company. I thought you wanted to lift Su Jin’s freeze, so I gave her the contracts,” the manager of the records department replied.

”Are you certain?” Leng Zimo asked.

”I was in the records room at that moment. I personally found those contracts; there can be no mistake.” The manager of the records department placed the envelope of contracts on the table, ”If you need it, I can retrieve the work records. They should still have Director Xu’s signature on them.”

Xu Pei?!

Leng Zimo pursed his lips tightly, his fist on the table gripping fiercely.

”No need,” he said, clenching his fist as he stood up. ”It’s very late; you’ve had a long day. Take tomorrow off.”

”Thank you, President Leng.” Seeing his grim expression, the manager from the records department didn’t dare to say more. He nodded to Leng Zimo and left the CEO’s office.

The next day, Luo Xiaoqian was jolted awake by her alarm clock. After silencing it, she reached out beside her, only to touch emptiness.

”Zimo?”

She called out, but no one answered.

Confused, she sat up, slipped on her slippers, and walked out of the bedroom. She searched all the way downstairs but saw no sign of Leng Zimo. As she entered the hallway, his slippers were neatly arranged on the rack, as if they had never been moved.

”I wonder what issue came up at the company to have him work all night.”

Luo Xiaoqian frowned and turned back upstairs.

Picking up her phone, she dialed Leng Zimo’s number but hesitated, eventually setting the phone back down.

After working all night, he must have just gone to sleep, she thought. Best not to disturb him now.

Heading into the bathroom for a shower, she got dressed after freshening up. Luo Xiaoqian chose a loose T-shirt and jeans and promptly headed downstairs to start cooking breakfast.

Millet porridge, frozen buns, plus her signature Luo-style fried eggs—nutritious and stomach-friendly.

He always looked after her, preparing everything. Now, as his future wife, she felt it was her turn to show some initiative.

...

...

Emperor View Building’s Top Floor.

Xu Pei walked slowly along the quiet corridor.

Her long dress floated elegantly, her makeup was delicately applied, and she carried two warm breakfasts purchased from a food stand at the corner.

Early that morning, barely after she had woken up, she received a call from Leng Zimo saying he wanted to talk to her.

During these past days, this was the first time Leng Zimo had taken the initiative to call her, mentioning a private discussion, so naturally Xu Pei agreed immediately.

Approaching Leng Zimo’s door, she set the breakfasts aside on a nearby table, took out a compact mirror to check her face, ensuring that her sleepless night hadn’t affected her appearance. Satisfied, she tucked the mirror back into her bag, picked up the breakfasts, and knocked on the door.

”Come in!”

Leng Zimo’s voice immediately responded from within.

Smiling, Xu Pei pushed open the door and saw him sitting behind his desk in a shirt, with a strong scent of cigar in the office.

”It’s so pungent!” Xu Pei wrinkled her nose, closing the door behind her and placing the breakfast on the coffee table, walking over to the window, ”What were you doing smoking so much without opening the windows for some air?”

”Stop!”

Leng Zimo’s voice rose sternly.

Sensing his tone was off, Xu Pei turned around with a questioning look, walking back to his desk and scrutinizing his face, ”What’s wrong? Is it because of the issue at yesterday’s press conference? Don’t worry, we will resolve it. This morning, I suddenly thought of some leads. Let’s eat and discuss!”

She moved to the coffee table, bent down to open the bag of breakfast, and unwrapped his portion, handing it over.

”Well, black coffee with black pepper beef sandwich, yours!”
