High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 795: Chapter 143 Su Ya’s Idea

”A paper crane from the school?! No way!”

”It’s the weekend! I’m already on vacation!”

”Even Big Wizards are human! Don’t they need to sleep, eat, daydream, put on makeup, beauty spa massages...?”

Upon hearing the head maid’s response, the relaxed expression on Su Shijun’s face immediately fell, and then she turned her face away, stretching her hand forward, repeatedly waving: ”I don’t want it, I’m not looking, I’m not receiving... say that a passing swallow snatched the paper crane away later.”

”But Miss, it’s winter, and there are no swallows flying in the sky.” Head maid Su Man seemed not to see the jade hand waving in front of her, softly refuting her mistress’s improper thought, while emphasizing, ”Moreover, the paper crane is from the dean’s office of Jiuyou Academy.”

”Ah, how annoying... I knew it was that Old Rice!” Su Shijun’s expression grew worse — since she was at Greenhill Mansion and only had her two personal maids in the room, this top beauty of the wizard world rarely showed a lazy and rude demeanor.

”It’s Professor Yao, Miss.” Su Man immediately corrected Su Shijun’s improper phrasing, meanwhile, she took a step forward, stubbornly holding up the paper crane in front of Su Shijun.

”Yes, yes, yes, he’s the big professor, the big dean, and I’m just a little council member... Tsk!” Su Shijun rolled her eyes and irritably snatched the crumpled paper crane.”

After a long journey, the paper crane thought it would receive treatment commensurate with its efforts, only to be roughly caught by the witch and then violently torn into a piece of letter paper.

Luckily, the aura of the person tearing the letter matched, and it didn’t trigger the defensive spell of the flying crane, which would have allowed the paper crane to self-incinerate into ashes. Thus, in a stroke of misfortune, the paper crane met its peaceful end.

”Oh my, even when Miss is angry, she looks so pretty!” Su Ya, who had just caught her breath at the side, happened to see Su Shijun rolling her eyes and immediately showed a lovestruck expression.

”Cough cough!” The head maid standing by sternly glared at the little fox lady and coughed loudly twice.

Su Ya checked the head maid’s expression, her lips pouted, and she tidily arranged her maid outfit. Then she curled the tip of her tail peeking from under her skirt and stuffed it back at her waist, placing her hands neatly folded in front of her and standing properly to the side behind Su Shijun, not looking around or eavesdropping.

Only then did the head maid relax her fierce gaze and reluctantly nodded.

By then, Su Shijun had already finished reading Old Yao’s letter.

”Whew...”

A flame about a foot tall suddenly rose between the witch’s palms, and the green letter paper turned to ash in the blink of an eye — poor paper crane, even after completing its task, couldn’t escape the tragedy of turning to ash.

The sudden burst of light startled the two maids, especially the little fox lady Su Ya, who had just posed properly and hadn’t had time to count a thousand sheep in her mind. She was dazzled by the burst of light and involuntarily let out a small, sharp scream: ”Oh no!”

Su Shijun came to his senses, comforted the little witch by patting her head, and complained indignantly, ”That darn Old Rice, I came to First University to live in seclusion, and he treats me like menial labor! What do Santa Claus and his reindeers have to do with me... Why do I have to deal with this mess! And he wants to borrow a few sturdy big foxes too?! Who has ever heard of foxes pulling sleighs? Why didn’t he ask Tabbot or the Taylor family? Don’t all those big wolfhounds have mansions in the west district?”

As the matter involved Su Shijun, Dean Yao, and two other renowned families from Under the Moon, it was naturally inappropriate for the two maids to interject. Not only did Su Man pretend to be deaf to the whole conversation, but the young girl Su Ya also learned to keep her eyes and nose down and ears open, playing a quiet and beautiful little fox lady.

But sometimes, no matter how much you avoid and yield, problems won’t just bypass you and disappear.

”What do you think if I pretend I never received this letter?” Su Shijun suddenly turned his head and looked towards the two maids.

As Su Ya heard this, she was about to speak when suddenly, remembering something, she turned back and timidly glanced at the head maid. As expected, Su Man was staring at her emotionlessly from not too far away. The little fox lady immediately wilted, her fluffy pointed ears drooping, as she stood properly in place once again.

”Ears up!” Su Man sternly glared at her.

Although no words were spoken, sometimes a look can convey more information directly and abundantly than words.

Fulfilling the head maid’s gaze, Su Ya’s ears that had just drooped perked up in a flash, neatly erect beside her headband.

”...Or maybe, I should send Old Rice a ’Roaring Letter’?” Su Shijun held one arm across his chest and pinched his chin with the other, pacing around the large sofa in small steps and muttered, ”After all, I am a member of the Upper House of the Moon Council. I shouldn’t always be treated like a child by that old man... Santa Claus... He’s too old to still believe in Santa Claus! Is this something a Big Wizard would do!”

Witnessing their mistress becoming increasingly deranged, the head maid from Greenhill Mansion finally couldn’t sit by silently and interjected, ”As a member of the Moon Council, or the head of the laboratory at First University, you are obligated to cooperate with First University in handling some general administrative tasks... For many wizards, Christmas is a very important holiday. Perhaps Dean Yao has a deeper reason for assigning you this task.”

”Ha, what deep meaning he could possibly have!” Su Shijun eventually stopped in front of the grand clock in the living room, and scoffed, ”At most it’s just the old man trying to see how well we follow the commands of First University, testing us here... I think he’s just become feeble-minded from all his smoking.”

”The foxes of Qingqiu naturally shouldn’t be pulling carts for the school,” Su Man said, appearing unaware of the negative undertone in Su Shijun’s words, and meticulously proposed, ”Perhaps we could order a batch of alchemy puppets from Martin-Tor Company to serve as the pullers?”

”The cost is too high, the school definitely won’t reimburse that,” Su Shijun shook his head, ”I dealt with this kind of silly stuff back when I was in the student council... It’s utterly thankless work.”

This wasn’t working, that wasn’t working, and seeing that the task temporarily assigned by the Dean of Jiuyou Academy was unlikely to be completed, the head maid from Greenhill Mansion also couldn’t help feeling worried.

Just then, the usually silent little fox lady suddenly spoke up.

”We could use mice to pull the carts!” A timid voice suddenly chimed in, ”Li Meng told me, there are now a lot of big mice in First University... so big! Apparently, they are longer than my arm! Surely, they can pull the carts with no problem!”

”And the pumpkins in the garden have grown so big too... we could also send a few pumpkin carts to the school!”
