High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 792: Chapter 140 The Butterfly that Flew out of the Window_1

As the pale yellow sun appeared above the distant rooftops, the report session of the chief assistant in the dean’s office was also nearing its end.

The pipe in Professor Yao’s mouth never went out, like an engine at full speed, always huffing and puffing white smoke, flooding the upper half of the entire office in thick smog.

”Is there anything else?” After discussing the stack of reports on the table, the professor rubbed his tired eyes, removed the pipe from his mouth, and stuffed it with tobacco. He then looked up at the chief assistant in front of him.

The long Q&A session had drained Zhang Yu’s energy and made his voice hoarse.

”That’s all for the planned work.” The assistant said in a low voice: ”But there are a few things, we need you to decide a general direction first.”

Old Yao took a deep breath, didn’t immediately speak, but raised his hand and snapped his fingers.

”Pop!”

Suddenly several grey-uniformed elves appeared in front of the professor. Some were holding fruit plates, some were dragging teapots, some were holding dusters, and some were tugging at a brass speaker flower, rushing into the layer of smoke overhead.

Although the professor didn’t explain, Zhang Yu knew that during his earlier report, these little elves had been magically restricted from the office by the professor. Only with permission, could they come in for cleaning and serving.

The low hum of the smoke cleaner drifted overhead, purging those clouds of colored, scented, un-air-fresh particles; several white dusters flew rapidly across the desk, window sill, and cabinet surface, quickly gathering a dusty appearance in the blink of an eye; and a little elf pulling a teapot, followed by a tinkling string of teacups, stopped in front of the young assistant.

”Hehe?” She looked at the wizard with her bright eyes, making a pleasant inquiry.

”Thank you.” The young assistant with white hair nodded faintly, expressing his thanks gently.

The little elf grinned widely, waved her little arm, and a small teacup flew out from behind her and hovered in front of the young wizard. Then with another motion, the teacup quickly enlarged, in an instant growing from a few centimeters tall to several inches.

”Enough, enough.” The young assistant repeatedly stopped, his voice sounding somewhat flustered.

”Hahahaha!” Behind the desk, Professor Yao let out a series of hearty laughs: ”You should not be so courteous with them... they are all simple-minded creatures, hahaha...”

The ringing laughter echoed around the office, not only scaring the little elf who was pouring the tea, causing the cleaner overhead to pause for a few seconds, but also startling a young wizard who was napping on the couch in the corner of the office.

”Is it over?” asked Thomas, blinking his sleepy eyes as he struggled to stand up from the couch. However, he nearly stumbled back down.

”Oh my...” The professor quickly waved his hand, and several vines stretched out from the void, flexibly building a frame behind Thomas, stabilizing his leaning body.

”It’s almost over, you can sleep a while longer.” The professor snapped his fingers to withdraw the vines after seeing the young wizard regain his balance. He laughed and said, ”Or would you like some large-leaf tea? Uncle Sistanda sent it a few days ago, saying that a little earth dragon in the Hundred Herb Gardens was throwing a tantrum and knocked down an old tea tree... so he gathered the salvageable leaves, stir-fried them, and packed a little for each of us.”

”Uncle Sistanda?” Thomas rubbed his eyes, unconsciously murmuring, but then realized his position and quickly added: ”Uh, I’ll have some tea then... I’ve been sleeping for half the day, my mouth is a bit dry.”

As if hearing his requests, another elf, after pouring tea for Zhang Yu, quickly flew towards him, dragging a large teapot, and slowly poured Thomas a large cup of tea.

The amber tea in the room’s faint light revealed an unusual brightness. Thomas swayed his cup; a few ripples spread from the center, crashing into the cup wall, recoiling, surging up again, so on and so forth, in an endless cycle.

On the other hand, Zhang Yu had resumed his report to the professor.

”...Christmas is coming in a few days. The student council hopes to get approval to arrange some reindeers, sleds, or pumpkin carriages for gift-giving to the students...”

”You need to tell me about such things?” Yao lifted his pipe.

The chief assistant in front of him remained calm, his tone did not fluctuate in the slightest, ”...Because flying reindeer are categorized as three-star and above dangerous magical beasts, their entry into the academy requires your approval.”

”Oh, is that so...how come I don’t remember having these arrangements before?” Old Yao took back his pipe and coughed a few times.

”The main reason is considering that a lot has happened on campus this semester, so to appease everyone’s mood, the student council deliberated for a long time and finally chose this plan.”

”Hmph, always busy with nonsense discussions and not focusing on the proper matters, no wonder someone is all bent on opening a sundries shop!” The professor chomped on his pipe, his gaze swept over the red and black card on the desk. He seemed to recall something, spat out a few smoke rings in displeasure, and scolded: ”Simply unscrupulous!”

Thomas who was drinking tea not far away heard the professor’s words and almost sprayed the tea out of his mouth.

”The school is not at peace right now, so don’t add more chaos by bringing in miscellaneous items from outside.” Old Yao took a few puffs, setting the tone: ”As for reindeers and whatnot, scour around the school, in the Pet Garden or Spirit Habitat Park, I remember there are a lot of creatures who can pull a cart and fly. If there are no reindeers, find some long-haired dogs. If you really can’t find any, negotiate with Councilor Su, a few big foxes will do, too.”

Thomas on the couch held his forehead in hand, attempting to block out the unreliable suggestions from the professor close by.

”Sure.” Zhang Yu seriously considered the professor’s proposition. Then he presented a new problem, ”However, the Councilor Su requires your help in coordinating too...”

”Mm, sure, sure.” As he said this, the professor tore a light blue post-it note from the notepad on the table, scribbled down a few words, then crumpled and tossed it. The paper ball rolled in the air and suddenly turned into a paper crane.

The sky-blue crane seemed to take a while to get used to its creased body. It flapped its wings restlessly before stabilizing its form, let out a few clear cries, circled above the professor’s head, then headed straight for the window.

It flew straight through the tightly closed glass window.

The thick glass of the window seemed to not exist at all, not even blocking the shadow of the paper crane. Only a few rings of ripples were left to ripple across the window, scattering the sunlight from outside to fill the dim office with a variety of bright colorful halos, presenting an extraordinarily stunning scene.
