High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 788: Chapter 136: Abnormal Inspection Results_1

Jiang Yu left without hesitation.

Doctor Du Zemu watched her retreating figure with a trace of worry on his face, but he did not say much. The old servant, Constantin, next to him, looked at the witch, then at his young master, seemed to want to say something but eventually remained silent.

Zheng Qing stood still, quickly cleaning up the cardboard boxes on the ground, intending to leave with the witch— In his view, since the doctor had already examined the little elves and found nothing wrong, there was no reason for him to stay.

He could use this time to take a tour around the Wandering Bar. He might even come across a wizard who had just returned from hunting in the Silent Forest and could handle Sand Hour treasures! Besides, he also wanted to catch up with Jiang Yu and ask her what issue she was arguing with Doctor Du Zemu about, as well as how her plan to transform into a cat to catch the culprit was going to proceed.

However, just as he was about to stand up with the box, he was grabbed by Doctor Du Zemu.

”Before you came here, did you feed the little elves anything? Or did you cast any magic on them?” Doctor Du Zemu took hold of Zheng Qing’s arm, fixing his gaze on the young scholarship student, his tone becoming serious: ”Have you secretly made any concoctions to feed them?”

”Did I feed them anything? No!” Zheng Qing was somewhat perplexed by Doctor Du Zemu’s questioning and after careful deliberation, he answered with certainty: ”Aside from dew and flower essence, they don’t eat anything else... And as you have repeatedly stressed this, I didn’t feed them arbitrarily... Also, everyone in our dormitory knows better than to feed them indiscriminately.”

”As for magic... do you think we, a bunch of first-year wizards, could cast some strange magic on these little elves?” At this point, Zheng Qing turned over his law book in front of the doctor: ”These spells here are the results of my learning over these months... The one I am most proficient at is the Binding Spell, and the highest-level spell is the ’Guardian of the Original Morning Spell’— We’ve only practiced the pre-setting spell of Guardian of the Original Morning and haven’t learned when to use this spell yet.”

Doctor Du Zemu frowned, listening to Zheng Qing’s long-winded explanation while leafing through the law book in his hand.

As he read, he muttered, indicating that it was impossible, that it wasn’t magic.

”What happened? What isn’t magic?” The young scholarship student was very curious.

The doctor didn’t immediately answer his question, but asked another one: ”When you gave me the box before, the little elves were sleeping, right... Why were they sleeping then?”

As he spoke, he pointed to the cardboard box Zheng Qing was holding.

Zheng Qing looked down, and unbeknownst to him, the little elves had once again wrapped themselves in their wings and fallen asleep.

”What’s so strange about that?” Zheng Qing looked up, feeling a bit baffled and somewhat irritable: ”We hung many talismans that maintain temperature, prevent noise, and calm the mind in the paper house, to maintain a constant temperature and humidity. In such an environment, even a giant dragon would fall asleep, not to mention a bunch of little elves... This should not have violated the instructions given by the elder.”

”That’s all?” Du Zemu followed up with another question.

”You can see for yourself.” Zheng Qing extended his hand to give the box to the doctor, and he also followed up with a question: ”Is there something wrong?”

Doctor Du Zemu didn’t accept the box but continued to ponder and answer in a murmuring tone: ”Wrong? Nothing is wrong... or rather, it’s not wrong, it’s excellent! There can be no better situation.”

”Excellent?” Zheng Qing raised his eyebrows— he felt that from the beginning until now, Doctor Du Zemu’s words seemed scrambled and utterly illogical— the young wizard couldn’t help but glance at the old servant nearby.

Constantin paid no attention to the conversation here. He was instructing a Crane’s Beak Hoe to loosen the soil in the seedbed of the greenhouse. Nearby, several differently colored copper kettles filled with clean water, insecticides, and fertilizers were floating in mid-air, clinking against each other as they waited for the old servant’s command.

”Yes, it’s excellent.” Doctor Du Zemu pulled out a feather pen from somewhere. Holding it upside down by the nib, he extended the long feather into the box and tickled a sleeping little elf.

The little elf, though with closed eyes, promptly raised its hand to brush off the feather touching it.

”Did you see? Their reaction has not decreased at all, they’re really just sleeping.” As if having proved something, the doctor turned his head to look at the young scholarship student.

Zheng Qing with a blank look on his face asked, ”What else would it be?!”

”At first, when you handed me the box, I thought they were sleeping because of the diminishing effect of the medicine, that they were beginning to fall into chaos,” the doctor explained, turning the feather pen upright and creating fluid runes and equations in the air, he spoke rapidly:

”...But when the test results came out, I knew I was wrong. These little elves are in excellent condition, unbelievably good, their current state almost matches when they first took the medicine. There are no signs of diminishing medicinal effects... this is a very abnormal situation.”

Without him saying, Zheng Qing also knew this was an abnormal situation.

The scholarship student held his breath, widened his eyes, and stared at each trace left by the feather pen in the air. Unfortunately, although he could tell the doctor was doing a possibility analysis, apart from the symbols in the formulas, he could hardly understand a word— In other words, he knew every letter, symbol, and number the doctor wrote, but when put altogether, he didn’t understand.

Doctor Du Zemu didn’t seem to plan to explain to the young wizard, but continued to deduce while muttering to himself:

”Technically, it’s the end of the effect of that drug, these little elves should be showing signs of lethargy, reduced reaction speed, erratic behaviour... But based on the chart you recorded and my examination results, they show none of the above symptoms.”

”This is very abnormal, very abnormal.”

”But it’s not completely impossible.”

”After eliminating all the impossible situations, the remaining one, no matter how incredible it is, is the fact— at present, the only factor that has in-depth interaction with these little elves and could clearly affect them is you.”
