Chapter 761: Chapter 109 The Cat and the Fox_1

A black cat darted through the forest lane, followed by two short wizards.

Of course, the black cat was Zheng Qing, and the two short wizards were Xiao Xiao and Lin Guo.

About ten minutes ago, this young wizard from Alpha Academy ran to the library out of breath, yelling that ’his followers’ were in trouble. As a result of his raucous behavior in the library, he was hauled off to the office by the on-duty alchemy puppet.

After Zheng Qing had taken care of the necessary procedures and redeemed the young wizard from the library office, through Lin Guo’s disorganized description, the young recipient of public funding finally understood where the so-called ’subordinates’ came from—it was none other than the cat followers he had taken in from the small forest.

Earlier today, Lin Guo had to conduct an alchemy experiment, so he went to the lakeside forest looking to stray into the squirrel’s tree holes to see if he could find some sun-dried honey ring mushrooms. Because of their penchant for collecting, the campus squirrels always stashed many peculiar trophies in their tree holes—such as discarded broken feather pens from students, epidemic pills rejected by pets and hidden in bushes, and various types of mushrooms growing at the base of trees after a rain.

After inspecting four or five tree holes and trading a bag of sugar roasted chestnuts for three sun-dried honey ring mushrooms from a twin-tailed squirrel’s hole, Lin Guo had planned to go back to the castle immediately to conduct the experiment. However, he unexpectedly encountered two competing ’gangs’ at the edge of the small forest.

For some reason, Zheng Qing’s group of cat followers had clashed with a group of foxes from the Pet Garden—Maybe it was because foxes were originally from the canine family and naturally disliked cats; maybe both parties had spotted an unmarked mouse prey; or possibly, it was just a cat accidentally stepping on a fox’s tail—Anyhow, by the time Lin Guo reacted and went to the library for reinforcements, both unruly and defiant little bastards were gritting their teeth, facing each other, glaring and sharpening their claws.

Considering the ’complexity’ of the situation, the young cost student decided to change his persona and appeared as the ’cat leader’ in the small forest to prevent the cat-fox conflict after thinking for a moment. He felt that, in comparison, the black cat persona would be more persuasive in front of the cats and foxes.

Luckily, after a lot of practice, his grasp on the transformation spell was incomparable to the past. After drinking a vial of undiluted transformation potion in the library bathroom, the young cost student became a feline from a primate in just a short time.

”It’s a good thing that I persuaded Jiang Yu away just now; otherwise, it would be trouble if she saw me in this state,” the black cat complained while leading the way down a secluded path: ”And that fat man, Xin, he could have chosen any time to have a meeting, but he chose this exact time when we’re swamped...It’s absolutely preposterous.”

Just before leaving the library, Xin Fat Man unexpectedly received a paper crane from the campus newspaper editor telling him to return to the editorial office for a meeting. So, one less person ended up going to the small forest to resolve the ’cat-fox dispute’.

The reason why it was ’one less person’ was that before Xin Fat Man, Jiang Yu had already given up on helping after persuasion from a few wizards, and she returned to the study room to supervise Li Meng’s homework.

”I never understood, it’s just a cat transformation, why can’t you let her know?” Lin Guo asked quietly, ”I remember you two are quite close.”

”One thing has nothing to do with the other!” The black cat turned his head and shot a look at the young wizard with his crystal clear, red eyes, uttered emphatically with a twitch of his whiskers. ”You have to know, my current transformation is against the rules, and she is the monitor of the Astronomy Class 08-1...What do you think she would do if she found out?”

”Expose me? That would be a betrayal of friendship. Keep it a secret for me? That would be trampling on the rules!”

Having said this, the black cat seemed extraordinarily satisfied with his analysis. Pulling his ears into an airplane shape, he concluded, ”So, when faced with a dilemma like this, don’t make your friends uncomfortable... It’s because I consider her as a friend that I don’t tell her.”

The reasoning in those words was so solid that it made the young wizard continuously nod in agreement.

Except for Xiao Xiao.

”If I didn’t know a little more, I would almost believe it too.” Doctor Xiao adjusted his glasses, let out a cold humph, which made the black cat leading the way tremble all over.

”Whether you believe it or not, I certainly do.” The black cat twisted its neck and stared straight at the Doctor.

”Lower your head, don’t be glaring around with those red eyes!” Doctor Xiao sighed and warned: ”You’re not a rabbit! With those conspicuous red eyes...The atmosphere is rather tense right now, a red-eyed cat can easily attract trouble. In my opinion, you should wear a pair of contact lenses when you go out.”

”This is a wizarding school, where two-tailed squirrels can fly about here and there, so what’s so strange about a red-eyed cat!” The black cat waved its paw dismissively and said, ”Even the school’s Guardian Array didn’t react, what do I have to be afraid of?!”

”Hehe.” Doctor Xiao scoffed twice but did not continue to speak.

Upon hearing this laugh, the black cat suddenly felt a little chill on its scalp. It took a step sideways and stepped into a puddle of mud.

”Just my luck.” The black cat complained, raising its paw to rub it against the trunk of a Higanbana tree that it had just passed by. It recited in a languid voice: ”The wind blows the snowflakes cascading down, smacking on people’s shoulders and eyebrows; the roads are icy and slick, once you slip, you are sprawling on the ground.”

Last weekend, during the ”Big Snow” period, in order to create an atmosphere of auspicious snow, the meteorological department conjured a thick snowfall across the entire campus. With some snowflakes continuously falling in the following days, the accumulated snow within the campus had not completely melted, the main roads were covered with black mud and semi-transparent ice.

The black cat walked on the stone edge by the roadside, carefully choosing clean snow to place its paws. It moved gracefully and steadily, not at all like falling ’sprawling on the ground’ as it had just recited.

”Good poem, good poem!” Lin Guo praised loudly, then seriously corrected: ”However, you’re a cat, not a human.”

”Don’t mind the details.” The young scholarship student shook its whiskers, curling up its tail tip, and brought the topic back to the trouble they were about to face: ”Can you tell us again about those cats and foxes... How many cats and how many foxes?”

”Oh, okay.” Lin Guo nodded, took a few hustled steps, bent over and muttered into the black cat’s ear: ”I didn’t count the number of cats and foxes too clearly... I only remember seeing a dark mass of them, giving me the creeps.”

”The leader of the cat pack is not the biggest forest cat, nor the fiercest blue cat, but the little ragdoll cat that had always been by your side. I don’t know why, but the forest cat and blue cat were both following it.”

”On the foxes side, the leader is a fiery red fox, which looks very fierce... There is a white fox in the fox group which looks like Poseidon. However, because of the reflection from the snow, I didn’t see it too clearly. I don’t know if that white fox has blue patterns on its body.”
