High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 787: Chapter 135 Unpleasant Conversation_1

The winter sun, when rising, is at a lower angle and its color is a bit fainter than during the summer and autumn. At the same time and location, staring straight at the summer and autumn sun can make you unable to open your eyes, yet viewing the winter sun feels as if it is seen through a layer of frosted glass. You can clearly discern its outline. Sometimes, it even gives a strange ’refreshing’ sensation.

Just like now.

Being already past midday, Zheng Qing looked up but couldn’t see a full sun. He could only see a small semicircular ball of orange-red light hanging in the greyish-blue sky, casting a layer of platinum hue on half the sky.

There are various reasons for this — perhaps it’s because the Abnormal Life Research Institute is located in a deep alley in the eastern part of Beta Town, where the high walls of the neighboring courtyards block the not-so-high sun; perhaps the witch in charge of atmospheric management at the school today doesn’t like sunny weather, so she added a couple of layers of clouds, blocking half of the sun’s face; or it could be simply because the young scholarship student squats low on the ground, his view angle is too low to see the scenery above.

Of course, he squats on the ground for a reason.

Because at this moment Jiang Yu is bending over to look into a paper house, trying to get a careful look at the tiny elves inside it —a window is available on the side of the paper house, but it’s pinky-high, unsuitable for a witch to look in; while the roof of the paper house is a ’skylight’ that can open and close, not only having an excellent angle but also offers a broad view — if Zheng Qing kept standing straight, the witch couldn’t completely observe the situation inside the paper house even on her tiptoes.

Therefore, in order to facilitate the witch’s observation, Zheng Qing obediently squatted down on the ground, opened the roof of the paper house, exposing the exquisite furnishings inside and the lethargic elves.

”Are they asleep? When I looked in through the window just now, they were frolicking!” Jiang Yu looked surprised as she watched the situation in the house.

The witch’s head was somewhat close to Zheng Qing, a wisp of tranquil fragrance accompanied the cold air up his nostrils, making his heart itch.

”Ahem.” The wizard couldn’t help coughing twice, then carefully avoiding the witch’s hair gently blowing in the wind, he took a glance at the paper house in front of him: ”Um, they’re just a little shy... pretending to sleep. Look at that little elf leaning against the wall, her wings are still hanging on the ground... you know, they always wrap their wings around themselves when they sleep.”

As if to validate his words, the little elf by the wall ’whooshed’ and pulled her wings off the ground, tightly wrapping herself again. In this process, she kept her eyes tightly shut, as if to say to the eyes peeking in, she was sleeping, and sleeping very soundly.

The corners of the young scholarship student’s mouth twitched involuntarily.

”Hahaha... they’re so cute!” The witch let out a string of crisp laughter, her shoulders shuddering, even forgetting to pull up the shoulder wrap that had slid to one side: ”It feels like the elves you raised are also unique, the elves at my house are very rigid, they have no energy.”

Upon hearing the witch’s words, Doctor Du Zemu who was not far away showed a moment of comprehension on his face. However, confusion immediately overcame him again, and he murmured to himself, oddly standing still as if in a daze.

However, the young male and female wizards who were observing the life of the little elves didn’t notice the doctor’s peculiarity, they were still enthusiastically pointing and discussing the furnishings and decorations in the paper house.

Perhaps it is because Jiang Yu’s laughter just now was quite cordial, several pretending-to-sleep little elves cautiously opened one eye, carefully looking at the strange faces poking in from the roof.

”Um, did you hang a heat insulation talisman on the wall? That’s so thoughtful!” The witch reached her finger into the house, seemingly experiencing a significantly different temperature inside than outside, expressing her surprise.

”Not only is there a heat insulation talisman, there are also ones for wind protection, noise reduction, calming, and tranquility, so many talismans ... these were all leftovers from my writing practice, no trouble, no trouble at all.” The wizard explained as he held his breath, his gaze briefly lingering on the witch’s exposed white neck — perhaps because her head was tilted, or because she had just laughed too hard, anyway, Jiang Yu’s shawl had failed in its duty.

Should he help her pull the shawl and properly cover her neck again, or pretend not to see, and try hard to forget this embarrassing moment? The question momentarily stuck the young scholarship student.

But his dilemma didn’t last long.

Because Jiang Yu didn’t reach her hand into the house to touch those sensitive little elves. She quickly stood up, tugged on her shawl to put it back into the right position again — this relief unbottled a sigh from the wizard — the witch didn’t notice the wizard’s embarrassment but brushed off a lock of hair from her face, her countenance suddenly turned somewhat serious:

”If I remember correctly, I remember the potion that Doctor Du Zemu prepared for them using the ’Sand Hour Royal Jelly’ three months ago will soon lose its effect... The potion was crafted at the end of September, isn’t it almost time now?”

Upon hearing the witch’s question, Zheng Qing suddenly felt a strange emotion welling in his heart — very few witches would care about the health of these little elves, let alone remember their medical history — but at the same time, the witch’s question also made him recall his struggle and anxiety in recent days.

His mood suddenly dropped again: ”Mm, according to the initial theory, indeed, the medicine effect would be until the end of this month ...”

Noticing his abnormal tone, Jiang Yu was silent for a moment before she reached out, gently patting his shoulder in consolation: ”It’s okay, theory and reality are not the same, there will always be a way out, moreover, we still have the doctor!”

Feeling the gentle touch on his shoulder, Zheng Qing stiffened all over and froze on the spot.

”Although theory and reality are not the same, theory is the key to guide reality,” Doctor Du Zemu seemed to have finally come back to his senses. Taking this opportunity, he interjected, ”We absolutely cannot belittle the conclusion given by the theory, arbitrarily conduct unrestricted practice... Any danger must be controlled within the limits allowed by theory! This way we can ensure that the results correspond to our expectations and won’t lead to any new, bigger damage.”

Upon hearing this, Zheng Qing nodded repeatedly, but a strange feeling flashed in his heart.

The words of Doctor Du Zemu sounds like they were directed towards him, but it also seems they were not meant for him alone.

”Ah, I just remembered, it’s close to ten o’clock already, I have to go check on Li Meng’s morning homework... I won’t disturb you guys anymore.” Jiang Yu seemed to sense the underlying meaning behind Doctor Du Zemu’s words, her face stiffened slightly. She didn’t continue the topic, instead, she found an excuse, apologetically nodded at them, tightened the shawl on her body, turned around and headed outside.
