High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 96: Chapter 20: The Destiny of the Little Elves and the Plans of the Important Figures_1

The plump striped yellow and white Flower Cat was caterwauling, waving its pudgy paws, slapping its round paw heavily onto the face of Xin Fat Man.

The Blue Giant was not outdone, extending a pair of fat hands swinging around, making intimidating sounds in his throat.

There was a slight collision within the cardboard box on the desk.

The noise disturbed the residents inside the box.

”Be gentle!” Zheng Qing extended his hand, stopping the commotion made by Tuan Tuan and Xin.

A feeble Hehe sound came from inside the box, quickly dissipating into the quiet air of the dorm.

A few heads carefully gathered around the opening of the box.

”Have they woken up?” Xin Fat Man asked in a low voice.

”Perhaps.” Zheng Qing looked uneasily at the slumbering little elves in the box, pushing Xiaoxiao who was at his side with his arm. He was also unclear about their status.

”It must be a sleep talk.” Xiao Xiao pushed up his glasses, stretched his neck, his head nearly buried inside the box: ”Professor Li mentioned this situation before.”

The Flower Cat swatted Xiao Xiao’s head aside with its claws, pulled in its whiskers and ears, and also stuck its head into the box.

It made purring sounds from its throat, comforting the sleeping little elves.

Nearly a week had passed since the incident with the private jet.

The little elves were still deep in sleep.

Their originally transparent wings now looked a bit dry, and the antennae as thin as hair had long been too weak to erect on the sides of their foreheads.

Zheng Qing couldn’t help but sigh.

The charming green halos around the little elves hadn’t lit up for a long time.

If it were not for their slightly moving chests, Zheng Qing would have believed that they were entirely clutched in the arms of the God of Death.

It had been almost a week since classes formally started, and Zheng Qing had met every teacher.

After every class, he privately consulted these experienced tutors, asking if there was a way to save the little elves.

But the teachers had all expressed their inability to help.

”This is a self-protection mechanism of the elves.” Professor Trass of Alchemy class explained to Zheng Qing after class: ”When the Feed Master dies by accident, the elves that have a special contract with him will automatically sense this ’disaster’. The loss of the potion arranged by the Feed Master means that their lives are coming to an end.”

”At this time, to delay the arrival of death and reduce consumption of their physiques, these elves will automatically fall into a sleep state until they die. Most of the elves will die in their dreams.”

”This is a type of kindness and mercy that wizards have for elves.”

Zheng Qing was neither denying nor agreeing with this claim.

Those great wizards only gave the elves a choice for the way to die, but didn’t give them the right to choose life or death.

No one liked this cheap kind of sympathizing.

Out of all instructors, only Professor Li Qihuang of Potion class mentioned one potential solution:

”There is a magical insect called ’Sand Hour’ that secretes a fluid that can prolong the life of magical creatures. Maybe it can sustain the vital signs of these little elves.”

Apparently, seeing the hope blooming in the boy’s eyes, Professor Li added with furrowed brow:

”Just possibly, don’t harbor too much hope.”

”These magical insects can only be seen deep within the Silent Forest. You are just a freshman, I don’t want you to take reckless risks.”

”Also, the magic world still has many disagreements about the definition of elves. Wizards still cannot determine whether these elves are creatures, or merely alchemical products. Therefore, the effect of the secretions of ’Sand Hour’ remains uncertain.”

”Does the school laboratory have this secretion?” ZhengQing eagerly asked Professor Li, ignoring many limitations mentioned in the conversation.

”The secretion of Sand Hour has a limited shelf life. When the laboratory needs it, it will commission the Hunting Team to go into the Silent Forest and gather the secretion.” Looking somewhat regretful of providing Zheng Qing with this information, Professor Li Pat Huang stuttered his addition: ”Only high-level Hunting Teams have the ability to venture deep into the Silent Forest, and the completion rate of this task has always been very low.”

The overhead daylight lamp flickered, waking up room 403, which was bathed in the silence.

”So, are you a descendant of Kunlun or not?” Xin Fat Man returned to the original topic, with Tuan Tuan flattened on his head. He had reconciled with Tuan Tuan.

The fat cat squinted its eyes, its fluffy tail swaying comfortably behind Xin Fat Man’s head.

Zheng Qing rubbed his temples weakly.

He tried hard to let his friends know that he was not a descendant of Kunlun; these rumors had nothing to do with him.

But no one cared about his explanation.

At the corner of the room, the curtain of Dylan’s six-pillar bed suddenly lifted.

The werewolf showed a pair of glittering eyes.

He was very interested in the topic being discussed.

”I’ve heard some friends mention the Kunlun Descendant thing too.” Dylan’s entire body was hidden in the large coffin under the bed, only revealing his head: ”Supposedly, these stories are being spread by Arthur Ness and his group.”

Xin Fat Man stretched his neck, craning his head, trying to see if there was anything interesting on Dylan’s bed.

The werewolf glanced at him, closed the gap in the curtain, blocking Xin Fat Man’s view.

Tuan Tuan licked its pink nose, blinked its sky-blue eyes, and let out a purring laugh from its throat.

”Arthur Ness?” Zheng Qing had no impression of this.

”The Alpha veteran who drinks on the Pedestrian Street.” Xiao Xiao reminded him.

Zheng Qing remembered the guy who crushed a wine glass. He clearly remembered slapping more than forty suppression symbols on that guy—a full month’s output for him.

”Why would that guy talk nonsense!” Zheng Qing was a bit angry, and also started to feel sorry for his suppression symbols.

”Because we didn’t fight fair.” Xiao Xiao said dismissively: ”If we used a spell to make Mr. Arthur kneel in the dust, perhaps they would be quiet now.”

Zheng Qing felt that the Alpha sophomore was a bit silly.

”Why?”

”Losing to a freshman who can’t even use spells, would make everyone question whether he could be a real wizard.”

”A wizard who only uses spells is not a good wizard.” Zheng Qing scrabbled around in his mind, recalling seeing this quote lately.

”The original meaning of this quote is that wizards should be good at things like potions, runes, alchemy, divination, and more. It doesn’t mean that they should solve problems with their fists.” Xiao Xiao reminded him with a poker face.

”Whose side are you on!” Zheng Qing was furious, glaring at Xiao Xiao.

Xiao Xiao continued to scribble on his black notebook without responding.

”As you guys said.” The werewolf in the six-pillar bed started speaking again: ”The honorable Mr. Arthur Ness certainly doesn’t want others to know that he was suppressed by a mere freshman’s talisman.”

Dylan revealed a hint of sarcasm in the corner of his mouth, his dark red eyes flickering on the bed, seeming particularly creepy: ”Moreover, he used Sir Friedman’s name during that conflict... perhaps Sir Friedman isn’t very happy that his name was tarnished.”

”Who is Friedman?” Zheng Qing couldn’t help but ask: ”That Arthur kept shouting that name that day.”

”Sir Friedman Black Karen, an excellent successor of the Black and Karen families, a future upper council member of the Under The Moon Council. Although he has only just come of age, he already has sufficient voice to express his opinions at the Under The Moon Council. Our classmate, Matthew Karen, is related to him by blood.” Xiao Xiao said seriously: ”I have to say, this Mr. Ness is somewhat troublesome.”

”In that case, we might as well make this issue more interesting.” Dylan’s dark red pupils were shining, as if he was extremely interested in the matter.

”I like the idea.” Xin Fat Man was standing next to the desk, Tuan Tuan standing on his head with its four paws gripping his hair like a fur hat, making him look quite funny:

”We can certainly stoke the flames. I think that when someone sends you an invitation, it’s rude not to return the favor. Besides, we’re going to be in college for four years, recognizing some bigwigs in advance isn’t going to do you any harm. If there are any problems in the future, you can ask your friends for help.”

”So you need to make some minor changes. For example, your frivolous behavior, which does not match the decorum of a real ancient heir. Don’t bounce around while walking, don’t keep looking around.” Dylan made a suggestion: ”You don’t need to change your attire since everyone at university wears the same robes. But I suggest that you add a mysterious symbol on your school robe. How about a Ba Gua cufflink?”

”A Ba Gua on a circular symbol cufflink is indeed a good idea! As expected of a Night Noble, very cultured.” Xin Fat Man nodded, pretending to understand.

”Finally, you need to act more magnanimously.” Xiao Xiao closed his black notebook with a look of admiration, ”Don’t be petty. After class, you should stroll around in areas with many people so that people become familiar with you. Who among the bigwigs would have the leisure for dueling?”

The few of them decided Zheng Qing’s actions for the next few days in a few words.

Zheng Qing was dumbfounded.
