High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 92: Chapter 16: Moving_1

The exam paper was made of formal octavo paper.

If considering the size of an ordinary talisman, it is estimated that at most, only eight talismans could fit.

However, there was only one rune box on the test paper where, if written inside, only one rune could be written.

Zheng Qing couldn’t help but observe his surroundings.

Everyone was seriously dealing with the papers in their hands.

Nevermind.

Zheng Qing picked up the brush, saturated it with ink, analyzed it on the inkstone, calmed his mind, and naturally envisioned the first talisman from the Talisman Scroll in his mind.

He drew lightly, lifted heavily, and controlled his movements with ease.

In less than ten seconds, a complex talisman was completely laid out in the text box. Because there was no need for Infusion, this rune could be considered finished.

The exam paper seemed to have a reaction. The surface of the paper slightly undulated, and the written talisman slowly seeped into the test paper, disappearing. A bright red number ”1” appeared next to the rune box.

Zheng Qing realized. He dipped the brush in the ink pond and began to draw the second talisman.

Time trickled by, second by second.

On the podium, Zhang Huai Gu flipped the hourglass in his hand.

An hour had already passed.

A trace of unease began to appear in the originally quiet amphitheater-style classroom.

New students began to exchange silent glances, attempting to glean a sliver of inspiration from the pupils of their peers.

Even the studious students sitting in the front row, who wore serious expressions, had stopped writing for almost ten minutes.

Professor Zhang nodded her head; she also thought this was the limit for these new students.

The entrance examinations in the past generally lasted about an hour; in the remaining two hours, the teaching teachers would randomly review some new students’ talisman structure and writing errors.

With this in mind, she descended from the podium, starting the pre-exam paper collection inspection.

If everyone stopped writing, she will end this exam.

As expected.

Almost everyone had laid down their pens, began to frown, and started to scrap around for those unreliable fragments of memory.

To Zhang Huaigu, this meant that the exam had ended.

The school’s qualification standard for Talisman Studies is the ability to proficiently recite three hundred and sixty-five commonly used talismans by heart.

Even if there is a pause of one second during writing, that’s incompetence!

If the university recognizes such incompetent students, the wizarding world will question the professionalism of the school.

This is absolutely unacceptable.

With these harsh thoughts, Zhang Huaigu arrived at the last row of the classroom.

Then, she saw a new student.

A very competent new student.

Like all new students, this student wore a standard red gown, with the buttons on the collar and the pendant on the waist tied neatly according to the school’s regulations.

The new student had a slightly round face and not thick eyebrows, but the pair of bright eyes gave him a stubborn air.

At this moment, he was tightly pursing his lips, engrossed in drawing a talisman.

On the exam paper, the bright red number had jumped to three hundred and forty-nine.

Three hundred and forty-nine!

Zhang Huaigu’s heart hitched for a moment, almost exclaiming in surprise—this was already the best score from previous years! Almost reaching the requirements of a registered wizard!

The wizard’s powerful mind allowed her to maintain a calm demeanour.

The talisman that the new student was drawing under his pen, of which she was quite familiar was the Wu-numbered talisman in the Zhen system under the condition of Yang Yao.

Many fourth-year veterans wouldn’t have learned this talisman because it was too profound and belonged to the scope of registered wizards.

But this new student clearly and expertly presented this talisman perfectly on the test paper.

Yes, proficient and perfect.

Taking less than ten seconds, the rune was drawn without a single error. The collection and release of the overlapping strokes were so natural that it moved one to tears.

Professor Zhang’s delicate eyebrows furrowed together, contrasting her fair and calm face, making her look extraordinarily elegant.

The fingers behind her back gently brushed the air and drew a string of talismans.

This was a simple Barrier, which could prevent that new student from being disturbed by the outside world.

As the talisman left her hands, it lampcompassed him in the form of a halo of light.

Zhang Huaigu stood quietly by the male student’s side without a hint of impatience.

Time flowed past, minute by minute.

More and more students started to put down their pens despondently, staring blankly at their own test papers.

Teacher did not say a word, nor did he collect the papers.

Soon, the smart students noticed the only student who was still writing frantically in the classroom under the shadow of Professor Zhang.

Then more and more attention was gathered on the thin figure.

Whispered conversations, along with curious glances, spread across the classroom.

Zheng Qing’s status as a state-financed student was revealed and quickly spread.

Understanding was added to those scrutinizing eyes.

Then a strange, envious atmosphere spread.

The teachers at the back of the classroom were still silent, simply watching Zheng Qing, who was focusing on his talisman.

Zheng Qing, however, was oblivious to this.

Not only because, when he was drawing talismans, he was completely engrossed, with nothing in his mind; but also because of the simple barrier that Zhang Huaigu had set around him.

One hour.

Two hours.

Three hours.

When time flowed over three hours and nine minutes, Zheng Qing finally put down his purple brush.

One minute ahead of schedule, his master would probably praise him at home and might even cook his favorite dishes!

Feeling proud, he flexed his fingers, shook his shoulders and neck, and practiced a simple set of ’Unarmed’ routines - this was his habit after talisman training.

As he put down the brush and started to move, all the people in the classroom let out a long breath.

Finally! It’s done!

Zheng Qing thought so.

The other students thought so.

Zhang Huaigu thought so too.

She put away the protective barrier, looking at Zheng Qing.

”Have you finished?” Teacher Zhang asked very gently.

”Done.” Zheng Qing handed over his paper, looking at the ambiguous eyes around him, feeling a little uneasy in his heart: ”Am I the slowest one?”

”Indeed, you went a bit overtime.” The teacher’s tone was unexpectedly kind: ”How many talismans did you do?”

”One thousand two hundred and ninety-six.” Realizing he was indeed the slowest, Zheng Qing was dejected and reported honestly: ”I’ve learnt only that many.”

”Good.” The teacher took the papers and waved to everyone: ”Class is over, everyone worked hard in this class!”

Then she hurried out of the classroom carrying a stack of test papers.

Walking too hurriedly and stepping down from the podium, she stumbled and almost fell.

Watching Professor Zhang leave, the classroom immediately plunged into a noisy hubbub.

Shwoosh, a group of new students rushed to the back of the classroom, surrounding Zheng Qing and giving him quite a scare.

”1300! Man, you’re impressive!” Xin Fat Man frowned, with a look of deep grievances on his face: ”And yet you played dumb in front of me. Don’t you know it’s very punchable!”

”The International Wizard’s Union has only published 1296 effective talismans. Where did the 1300 come from? If you’re stupid, don’t talk too much.” Xiao Xiao opened his black notebook, contemptuously looking at Xin Fat Man.

”How many did you write, genius?” Xin shot him a glance.

Xiao Xiao decisively shut his mouth.

”Should I borrow a pen to worship in the dormitory?” Zhang Ji Xin was yelling urgently on the other side, grabbing Zheng Qing’s purple brush.

”You’d probably get better results by gnawing off his brain.” Xin Fat Man seriously rubbed Zheng Qing’s head.

Through the explanations of others, Zheng Qing finally understood what had happened.

Apart from him, the most prolific of the new students, Liu Fei Fei, only wrote over two hundred runes.

According to Xiao Xiao, in the long history of the First University, the most talented freshman had only managed to finish 360 talismans.

That means, he broke the school record.

A huge sense of relief filled his chest, making him almost breathless.

”Truly worthy of a state-financed student!”

”You’re amazing!”

”Now I know why you got that invitation letter.”

Almost every male student leaving the classroom would slap his shoulder and praise him with envious faces.

The female students, on the other hand, would size him up boldly and curiously.

Zheng Qing felt that his face had never been this red.
