62: Chapter 62: Tug-of-War Competition with the Fishman_1

62 -62: Tug-of-War Competition with the Fishman_1

It wasn’t until they reached the shore and rested for a few minutes, that the pallor on Xiao Xiao’s face gradually faded.

“You can consider trying to take the boat more often in the future.

You may build some immunity to seasickness,” Nicholas looked at him with concern.

“At the First University, not being able to take a boat is a terrible problem.”

Xiao Xiao grunted in response but said nothing.

“Monster!” A voice rang out in terror not far away.

Upon hearing the sound, Zheng Qing looked over.

On the surface of Lin Zhong Lake, about ten meters away, a monster was slowly revealing its hideous face.

The creature had a fish’s head on a humanoid body and was covered in black-blue scale armor on its chest and abdomen.

Sharp fins rose from its head and spine.

It had short limbs, but appeared to be rugged and muscular.

Its hands and feet each had three toes, webbed with a thin sheet of flesh.

At this moment, it was glaring with a pair of ghastly pale, deadened fish eyes, scanning the students on the shore threateningly.

Its fish mouth was slightly ajar, revealing sharp teeth that looked ghastly grim in the fading daylight.

“Fishman!” A boy standing in front of Nicholas screamed, distorting his voice in fear.

Zheng Qing was taken aback.

So, this was a Fishman!

Thomas had once helped him borrow a book titled “Wizard World Encyclopedia” from the school library.

Zheng Qing remembered that the book clearly and comprehensively categorized the intelligent creatures of the wizarding world.

Aquatic intelligent creatures, one of the three major categories of native intelligence, had a dedicated chapter in the “Encyclopedia”.

Fishmen, mermaids, and sea demons were the three most socially formed species among the aquatic intelligent creatures.

Sea demons, also known as Sirens, are distinguished by beautiful singing and prowess in illusion magic.

Their forms remain a mystery in the eyes of many wizards, but they all have one common characteristic – beautiful wings.

Mermaids, as their name suggests, are beautiful creatures.

They have human faces and fish tails, and are clothed in gauzy garments, delighting in frolicking in clean water.

Only the Fishmen are a stark contrast to the other two races.

The Fishmen are also known as Naga.

They’re ugly in form, cruel in nature, and lack intelligence.

They’re not adept at magic, but they’re incredibly strong.

These creatures inhabit turbid stagnant waters, breed water ghosts as livestock, and savor human flesh.

In the battle between wizards and demons, the Fishmen often fought as minions alongside the demon army against the wizards.

Consequently, during the second Witch Demon wars about a hundred years ago, the species nearly went extinct.

Today, only a few hundred weak Fishmen remain in the reserves designated by the Wizard’s Alliance.

The Fishman before them was one of those inhabitants of the Lin Zhong Lake Reserve.

This was the first time Zheng Qing had seen a live Fishman.

Grasping the grey cloth bag tightly, his eyes glistened and his breathing grew hurried.

He really wished he could observe it up close.

“Stay back!” Nicholas hoisted his law book, cautiously protecting his fellow students behind him.

His law book was trembling slightly, and sparks flying dramatically from between the pages emitted cracking sounds.

Xiao Xiao dragged Zheng Qing under a nearby cascabela tree.

Zheng Qing gave him a questioning look.

“I don’t fancy a Fishman’s punch, but I also don’t want to be blown up by an out-of-control magic book,” Xiao Xiao moved his lips, whispering in his ear.

Zheng Qing stared at Nicholas’s law book with his heart pounding in fear.

He thought he caught a whiff of something burning.

“What are they doing?” A petite girl behind Nicholas exclaimed in surprise.

Zheng Qing turned his head.

The Fishman was tugging on a strip of cloth, pulling it towards the water with force.

The other end of the cloth was attached to a girl’s backpack.

“Hiss…mine…hiss…mine!” The Fishman was yelling with his broken speech.

The girl seemed to be stunned with fear, clutching her backpack tightly as the Fishman gradually dragged her towards the water.

Around her neck was coiled a spectacled cobra, which stood erect, hissing incessantly at the Fishman.

“Hiss…fall in the…hiss…lake…hiss…my…” The Fishman shot a cruel look at the girl.

He flexed his arm muscles, effortlessly winding the strip of cloth around his arm bit by bit.

“Hiss hiss…” The spectacled cobra couldn’t speak, it could only keep hissing.

Its petrified owner was already sprawled on the ground, carried helplessly forward by the Fishman.

“Hiss!” Zheng Qing also gasped for a breath of cold air.

He turned his head towards Xiao Xiao, asking in an uncertain tone, “That girl?”

“Liu Fei Fei, she is also a freshman from Jiuyou’s Astronomy Class 08-1, and that python is called Little Dragon,” Xiao Xiao sighed.

“Hurry up and help!” Zheng Qing shouted, rushing up with Xiao Xiao.

Several students around them swooped in, clumsily clutching the girl sliding towards the lake, while loudly shouting to scare the fierce-looking fishman away.

The fishman, clutching the ribbon, and displaying dull eyes, retreated towards the lake without rushing.

The group of freshmen pulling the trailing ribbon looked as though they were being ridiculously tossed around like a ball.

“Disgusted with showing dew!” Nicolas finally opened his law book and roared.

His law book stopped spewing sparks.

Four symbols shot out from the page of the book and quickly dove into the water surface.

Zheng Qing stared dumbfounded, almost falling to the ground.

He recognized these symbols.

He vaguely guessed the effects of the spells formed: probably to make the road wet with dew.

Nicolas maybe wanted the sturdy fishman to slip.

It can’t be denied that this idea is creative.

But why wouldn’t he think of a way to cut this ribbon!

A knife would be much more effective than this grandiose spell!

Zheng Qing roared inwardly.

The spell fell into the lake, causing the water surface to boil violently, steaming up a heavy mist.

Four symbols carried the mist up the levee, spreading out, quickly engulfing half of the fishman’s body.

The fishman’s dull eyes turned, and it grinned, revealing a delighted smile.

As an aquatic intelligent creature, it disliked the environment on land.

Just a few minutes ashore, and its throat was already dry, resulting in a burning sensation with every breath.

This mist is so timely!

It stopped, bent over, buried its head into the heavy mist and took a few deep breaths.

The refreshing feeling spread throughout its body, filling it with renewed energy.

It flexed its muscles, stood up, and smiled, showing its sharp teeth to the ignorant freshmen.

The mist rolled and quickly shrank, settling down into dew droplets that fell onto the ground.

The surrounding ground of the lake was covered with massive stone slabs.

The dew fell upon them, making the stones wet and slippery.

The fishman was quite accustomed to this kind of wet and slippery environment.

It shifted its sturdy short legs, its massive bare feet slapping on the stone slabs, making a squelching sound.

The tiny hooks on its palms gripped the slippery surface, allowing it to progress towards the lake without any effort.

The students, however, were entirely unprepared for this sudden change.

Zheng Qing was still wearing the sneakers he had brought from home.

The rubber soles of his shoes caused a teeth-grinding noise due to friction against the wet stones.

What was worse was that the freshmen couldn’t maintain their footing on the slippery stones.

The girls watching the skirmish screamed.

Nicolas seemed to be frantically patting his flaming law book somewhere not far away.

A bitter smile crossed Zheng Qing’s face.

The wish he had a minute ago was about to come true.

He would soon have a close-up view of the fishman.

No one let go of their grip.

The ribbon slowly stretched forward, and their distance from the fishman was getting closer and closer.
