High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 86: Chapter 10: Chief, Monitor and Penalty Notice_1

The little phantom dressed in a grey uniform quietly floated to the podium and dragged the empty white mug out of the classroom.

Old Yao pulled out his pipe from his pocket again, tapping it on the blackboard a few times. A piece of chalk sprung nimbly from the ground and began to work hard.

”The third thing.” The professor raised his right hand, showing three fingers: ”About the top students and the class leader.”

The classroom fell silent.

Old Yao held his pipe, continuing his slow pacing on the stage.

He didn’t stuff the pipe with tobacco, it seemed that holding the pipe made him feel more natural.

”In Jiuyou Academy, the top students are those who excel academically. We’re not like Alpha Academy, we don’t care about social connections, bloodline, or origin. You don’t need to provide proof of a five hundred years worth of lineage. We only care about grades.”

”So, the top student of the first semester is given to student Liu Fei Fei.”

”Does anyone have any objections?”

No one spoke.

Old Yao nodded satisfactorily, and continued speaking:

”As for the class leader, they are the link between the students and the institution, so they need to have a strong sense of responsibility. Professor Yi JiaZi recommended two students to me, and for this term, they will temporarily handle the affairs of the class leader.”

Xin Fat Man couldn’t help but raise his hand.

”Xin student right?” Old Yao narrowed his eyes, flipped through the roll book, smiled and nodded: ”What’s the problem?”

”Shouldn’t the class leader be elected?” Xin Fat Man asked in a loud voice.

A murmur of agreement filtered through the classroom.

”Any other problems? Bring them up together.” Old Yao didn’t get angry, he continued to smile.

”Why are there two class leaders?”

”What qualifications do you need to be the class leader? Can you volunteer?”

”Who is Professor Yi JiaZi?”

Encouraged, the novices raised a bunch of questions all at once.

Old Yao nodded repeatedly.

After a while, when the classroom quieted down a bit, the professor tapped on the podium with his pipe:

”Are there any other questions?”

The students shook their heads.

”Then I’ll explain to you one by one.”

”Professor Yi JiaZi is your Divination teacher, you will meet him in tomorrow morning’s divination class. He has a very good temper, and his divination skills are very proficient. You can ask Professor Yi after class to help you observe some harmless details. For example, male students can go ask which girl has feelings for him, and the girls can go ask whether their crush is taken.”

There was a surge of low laughter in the classroom.

Old Yao squinted his eyes and continued explaining:

”The class leader requires a strong sense of responsibility, like I just mentioned. You all have just entered college, and there is a lack of understanding among you, so voting under these circumstances would be blind and meaningless.”

”That’s why I think it was a good choice for the professor of divination to look at the future class leader candidates for you.”

Zheng Qing nodded in agreement.

It did sound like a good idea.

”Tang Dun will serve as the class leader of Jiuyou Academy’s Astronomy Class 08-1, overseeing issues related to male students; Jiang Yu will serve as the assistant class leader, responsible for issues related to female students. If you have any problems in the future, you can ask them for help.”

Zheng Qing still remembered the name Tang Dun.

Not from the self-introduction of the novices just now. He remembered him from yesterday when they got off the plane and were waiting to enter at the first square. They had a brief exchange.

Zheng Qing still remembered that this boy had stood out amidst the chaos among freshmen, had organized them to form a queue, and had received quite a bit of praise from some of the veterans.

With that in mind, he did indeed have the potential to be an excellent class leader.

As for Jiang Yu.

Zheng Qing looked at the tall girl who stood up and nodded to everyone as a sign of respect. He couldn’t help but slam his head back onto the desk.

What will he do after class?

After the two new class leaders greeted everyone, Old Yao spoke again:

”Being a top student or a class leader awards no extra credits. But if you perform well, I will give you good comments in the final evaluation.”

”Regardless of whether you’re a top student or a class leader, it’s an honor. It’s the academy’s recognition of you.”

”Just like no matter what the punishment is, it’s a testament to your growth at the academy.”

Saying that, he looked towards the back of the classroom with a smiling face and raised several pieces of paper in his hand:

”Something like this.”

The pieces of paper flew lightly into the air.

Three little elves swiftly rushed down from the resting area along the blackboard, each grabbing a piece of paper.

They then flapped their wings and deftly flew towards the back of the classroom.

The students turned their heads curiously to look at the last few rows of the classroom.

Xin Fat Man looked baffled.

Zhang Ji Xin turned bright red.

Xiao Xiao was looking down again, twiddling with that notebook of his.

Zheng Qing looked at the little elves getting closer, and a chill began to creep up from the bottom of his heart. The ominous premonition was getting stronger.

”My dearest students, giving me a big surprise on the first week of the school start.”

Old Yao held his pipe, hugging his arms, and gave a sigh of approval:

”The school’s sanction notice!”

”In all my years as a professor, it’s the first time I have received a sanction notice from a freshman! What a surprising joy!”

Zheng Qing’s vision started to black out.

A little elf flew in front of him, holding up that piece of paper.

He swallowed, squinted his eyes in the bright sunlight coming from the window, and began to read.

”Notice of Punishment:

It is hereby known that the Jiuyou Academy freshmen 2008TW-1-000 (Xiao Xiao), 2008TW-1-002 (Zheng Qing), and 2008TW-1-015 (Zhang Ji Xin) were involved in a fight in the middle section of Pedestrian Street in Beta Town around 18:00 on the first day of August, sixty-three years into Wuyuan’s reign.

According to the ’Management Measures for Enrolled Students of the First University’ and the ’Disciplinary Regulations of Beta Town Public Security’, the following measures are enacted:

First, the students involved are ordered to write a reflection statement and hand it in to the Student Union Office within one week;

Second, the class counselor is to criticize the students involved in a class meeting;

Third, the students involved are to report to the School Work Committee within the first week of school and accept subsequent punitive tasks.

The First University is committed to providing a safe and good learning environment for all students, and we will not tolerate any undeclared conflicts. We hope that every student will take this as a warning.

The Office of the Student Union & the Campus Management Committee of the First University (signed)

The first day of August, Wuyuan’s 63rd reign year (September 1, 2008 on the White Calendar)”

The notice is light red in color, not too big in size, only 24k.

The paper was also very soft, it felt like a refreshing piece of cotton cloth when touched.

But when Zheng Qing held it in his hand, it felt like a red hot branding iron, making him extremely uneasy.

The other students in the class curiously looked at the three boys in the corner and the notices in their hands, whispering to themselves.

Everyone was curious about what had happened.

Zheng Qing heard Zhang Ji Xin sighing in relief next to him:

”That scared me to death! I thought I was going to get a serious warning or be put on academic probation! If my dad found out that I was put on academic probation on my first day of school, he would definitely rush into the dormitory and beat me into eighteen different shapes.”

Zheng Qing twitched the corner of his mouth, not knowing whether he should smile or not.

He wasn’t as carefree as the red-faced boy.

In his limited eighteen years of life, this was the first time he had received such a formal punishment notice.

Feeling anxious and uneasy was the only thought that hovered in his heart.
