High School of Demon Hunting

54: Chapter 54 The Feeling of Footsteps on the Ground Part_1

54 -54 The Feeling of Footsteps on the Ground Part_1

The feeling of a churning stomach relentlessly surged, halting Zheng Qing’s laughter abruptly.

Not far away, Li Meng sat on the ground, her face deathly pale, tears rolling down her cheeks in torrents, her lips trembling as if trying to say something.

The pigeon Xiao Bai cooed and circled her non-stop.

Poseidon’s head emerged from her robe, shot to the ground, and seemed a bit dizzy.

After staggering a few steps, it lay down on the ground, refusing to move any further.

Blue Bird held her sword, trying her best to straighten her back, and sat cross-legged.

Xiao Xiao took out her notebook, spread it out on the ground, and swiftly took notes with her trembling hand.

Neither the little monk nor the woman with the wine-red hair were in sight.

The newcomers with disheveled robes either squatted on the ground gasping for breath, retched while half-squatting, or tidied up their clothes on the side.

They scattered around in groups, creating a messy scene.

Zheng Qing touched the smooth sand under his hands, unable to suppress the smile on his face.

Although he wasn’t laughing out loud and an indescribable dizziness was still hovering over him, a sense of security he’d never felt before gently rose from beneath him, giving him peace of mind.

After the emptiness, feeling the solid earth under your feet, it’s truly wonderful.

After exhaustion, feeling the strength of your own breath, it’s truly wonderful.

“We just experienced the despair these little elves went through.” Tears still uncontrollably fell from his eyes.

Zheng Qing roughly wiped his face, smiling as he looked at everyone: “I think they have the right to feel what we feel now—the sensation of walking on the earth.”

Li Meng stared at him in bewilderment, nodding repeatedly.

Blue Bird, clutching her sword, slowly nodded her head.

Xiao Xiao glanced at him before refocusing on the notebook in front of her.

Not far from the beach was a plaza paved with white jade stones.

The pristine clean stone slabs shimmered dazzlingly under the sunlight.

In the middle of the square stood a majestic stone gate.

The gate was positioned atop a stone platform, with the university’s emblem hanging in the middle of the doorframe: a black triangular prism on a round wooden base.

Confucius’ famous saying, “Learning without thinking leads to ignorance; thinking without learning leads to danger,” was inscribed on both doorposts.

The gate frame was decorated with ornate bas-reliefs, through which a multicoloured halo emanated, enveloping the stone gate in an elegant cloak.

A silver-haired old man of Western features and towering stature, clad in a black robe, stood serenely at the entrance of the plaza without uttering a word.

The bustling newcomers involuntarily quietened down, staying obediently in their places.

The old man had a thick law book in his hand, which he would occasionally flip through.

Silver ribbons of light sprayed out of the book, shooting into the sea of clouds, and sweeping the flustered newcomers onto the beach in front of the plaza.

Not far away, the senior students, with wide smiles on their faces and standing in clusters, seemed to drift down from the sky as if skiing.

They inspected the disheveled newcomers with mocking eyes, looking perfectly content.

“Dark psychology.” Zheng Qing thought of some details at the time of exiting the cabin and silently raised a mental complaint.

Upon touching down, the upperclassmen respectfully bowed towards the old man at the entrance of the plaza, arranged themselves in orderly ranks, crossed the plaza of white jade stones, and drifted into the campus through the side doors of the stone gate.

“Do you know why the school uses such a horrifying exit method?” Zheng Qing turned to Xiao Xiao.

“It’s said that a qualified wizard needs a strong heart.

You never know when your lab will create a Golem or a Frankenstein.” Xiao Xiao calmly replied.

“That means you knew we were going to fall off the plane!” Zheng Qing squinted at him, cracking his knuckles.

Xiao Xiao quickly held up her notebook, flipped it open, and held it close to Zheng Qing’s face, “School rules, article one, section five, shall be warned once for fighting in front of the school gate, with a penalty of five academic points deduction!”

Zheng Qing’s hand reaching toward his grey cloth bag froze at his side.

He didn’t want to start his school life with a warning.

Xiao Xiao showed a mischievous grin.

Then he let out a horrific scream.

Li Meng kicked him fiercely from behind, resentfully saying, “That’s for not speaking up!”

In sync with the little girl, Poseidon and the pigeon Xiao Bai fiercely pounced over.

…

After a long while, when everyone was down on the ground, the old man’s hoarse voice resonated clearly across the square: “Remember today’s lesson, experience the meaning of life.

This is the start of your learning.”

Zheng Qing was confused.

This was a lesson?

What was the theme?

Experiencing the meaning of life?

If all the wizard’s classes were so cryptic, he would have a hard time keeping up.

He anxiously looked at the others.

Fortunately, the faces of the surrounding newcomers were also equally puzzled.

The old man did not provide any explanation, he just opened the black law book in his hands.

“Radiant sun emerges, gentle valley wind blows.”

The skinny hand stroked the black law book, and a gentle warm wind blew from all directions wrapping around all the newcomers, sweeping away the moisture on their bodies as well as their fear and fatigue.

This is the power of wizards!

Zheng Qing felt invigorated by this warm wind, recalling the Thunder Curse that Thomas had cast in the Great Ming Pavilion, his heart yearned for this magical power.

“Now line up and follow your seniors.

Prepare to enter the sacred temple of the university and start your new journey of inquiry!”

The old man put away the law book and turned to walk towards the towering Hua Gate.

The newcomers were silent for a few minutes, then immediately fell into a rambunctious commotion.

“How do we line up?” Zheng Qing looked at the colorful robes on the square, feeling a bit dazzled.

“Look at the robes.”

“Robes?”

“Jiuyou Academy wears red robes, Alpha Academy wears white robes, Atlas wears yellow robes, and Starry Sky Academy wears blue robes.

Professors, lecturers, and teaching assistants of the academies generally wear black robes, but they wear different badges to distinguish their specific ranks; there are also those in grey robes, who are school workers.

Don’t underestimate them, many of the school workers are retired professors and even former deans.”

Zheng Qing nodded repeatedly, he was now able to distinguish the general identities of the wizards around him.

He was surrounded by Red Robe Wizards, and other coloured robe wizards were also gathered together.

Among them, a few black robe professors and grey robe school workers were interspersed.

The other newcomers gradually figured out the system, and the clearly segregated lines began to form.

The black and gray-robed wizards standing among the newcomers all had satisfied smiles on their faces.

Zheng Qing and the others stood in the middle of the line.

A thin boy next to them looked enviously at the pets in their arms.

“I’ve always wondered, why can’t life forms be stored in storage devices.” The slim boy struggled with his trolley case, grumbling, “I’ve always wanted to bring my green-haired zombie from home.

I heard the school environment is good for it.

But my interviewer wouldn’t allow it.”

“The notice states that we can’t bring magical creatures of high risk.

If you want to win the favor of girls in college, you can’t bring anything more dangerous than a little elf.” His companion, also wearing a red robe, replied helplessly, “As for why storage boxes can’t contain life, I don’t know.”

“Maybe it’s because wizards’ belongings contain some substance that other life forms do not.” Zheng Qing couldn’t help but interject.

“Makes sense!” the skinny boy said, nodding at Poseidon.

“Idiot!” Xiao Xiao gritted her teeth, casting a glance at the group of mumbling figures, and snarled, “According to Oken’s theorem, one of the thirteen basic axioms—the primary axiom’s derived theorem: the life constant varies with different space dimensions.

Did you all not graduate from middle school?”

Zheng Qing looked blankly at Xiao Xiao’s pair of black-rimmed glasses, suppressing the impulse to scoop out her brain and eat it.
