High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 94: Chapter 18 On the Idea of Eliminating Losses_1

At the beginning of the school year, Arthur·Ness, a sophomore veteran from Alpha, clashed with several freshmen from Jiuyou Academy.

The result of the conflict was shocking.

Arrogant and talented Mr. Ness was savagely beaten by a group of freshmen who had not even officially enrolled yet, and humiliated in the dust of the Pedestrian Street.

This incident was witnessed live by hundreds of students from the four academies.

The campus was abuzz.

Mr. Ness became a disgrace to Alpha Academy in an instant.

His classmates felt embarrassed to talk to him. The clubs he joined all gave him stern warnings, even professors analyzed his failure solemnly in classes.

Anyway, this incident had left him humiliated for a while.

Most importantly, the dust from the incident dirtied the shoes of some influential figures.

Such as Sir Friedman.

As the Vice President of the ’Blood Comrades’ and the incumbent Chairman of the ’3A’ club, Sir Friedman wielded extensive sway over the students at Alpha Academy.

Not to mention the Duke’s rising influence outside the campus, and in the Under the Moon Congress.

Arthur·Ness involved, not only the Duke’s name in this failed negotiation, but he was also scornfully mocked.

Worst of all, after being mocked, he could not maintain the Duke’s dignity and even his own glory was trampled upon in the mud.

That posed some problems.

After the conflict, Arthur·Ness had his companions find information everywhere.

The new information obtained was not optimistic.

It was said that the senior executives of the Blood Comrades were discussing expelling Arthur during internal meetings; Sir Friedman was privately griping to his followers about Arthur·Ness’s ’utter foolishness’.

Mr. Ness was somewhat panicked.

He wanted to handle the aftermath of the battle with Zheng Qing and others through some official means, such as the student council arbitration committee. However, the remaining rationality told him that doing so would only make him lose face more.

”This must be a joke!” He yelled in one of Alpha Academy’s independent lounges, pacing anxiously, ”I have to go to the arbitration committee and tell those guys from ’The First Will’ that I was suppressed by a freshman’s talisman? Impossible! Besides, those little ones don’t even know how to use the law book!”

”It will indeed become a joke.” The thin boy who had been hit hard by Elena curled up in a large leather sofa, whining.

”I am an official member of ’Blood Comrades’! If I stand in front of ’The First Will’s’ arbitration committee, I will definitely be subjected to more humiliation!” Mr. Ness was howling somewhat hysterically.

Thinking of the consequences of accepting arbitration, his heart shrank into a bundle, trembling all over.

Every wise elder at the First University knew a fact—although the university owned hundreds of student clubs, all the students had only two leaders.

Augustus, the President of the ’Blood Comrades’ of the Alpha Academy, and Lei Zhe, the Chairman of the ’First Will’ of Jiuyou Academy.

In fact, these two names are both titles, which have been handed down at First University for hundreds of years. Every student who inherits the Blood Comrades or the First Will will also inherit the names Augustus and Lei Zhe.

The Blood Comrades, rooted in Alpha Academy, believe in ’Talent Theory’ and ’Predestination Theory’, believing that people are born with their talents already determined and that everyone can show proud talents as long as the hidden talents deep in their souls are guided correctly.

The creation in Jiuyou Academy, ’First Will’, insists on ’Man can conquer nature’ and ’The law of cause effect’, they believe that as long as they undergo systematic and professional training, everyone can become a genius. There is no such thing as pedigree and talent, those are all the shadows of the efforts of their predecessors.

The divergence between the two clubs ultimately pertains to the clash of educational philosophies between the two colleges-Jiuyou Academy identifies talents through examinations while Alpha Academy distinguishes them by talents.

Under the control of the first university, the two colleges have slight disputes due to these differences, but they will not go to war.

However, the young people within the college, with their blood boiling, do not hesitate to use some simple and brutal means to defend their own beliefs. Young people can always be forgiven. Under the indulgence of their individual colleges, the Blood Comrades and the First Will are in conflict everywhere in the school, mutually exclusive.

The Arbitration Committee, which is part of the student council of the First University, has most of its members leaning towards the First Will, as the current chief arbitration originates from the First Will.

This brings immense pressure on the members of the Blood Comrades.

Arthur·Ness can clearly foresee the consequences of entering the Arbitration Committee.

He would not be foolish enough to continue upsetting the superiors of the academy.

”This has happened and will inevitably be known to those old opponents.” A handsome man with long hair down his shoulders said in a soft voice: ”Especially you, Kitano Gen, you might even be bestowed titles like pervert.”

The skinny young man on the sofa shrank his body, looking even smaller.

”Moreover, you made this joke in the name of Sir Friedman, so you must end this farce before the Duke gives his opinion.”

”So, what?” Arthur·Ness looked at this handsome man with pleading eyes: ”Sima, what are your suggestions?”

The beautiful long-haired man named Sima Yi is also a sophomore veteran of Alpha Academy, versed in divination and magic text. He has a good personal relationship with Arthur and is often used by Arthur as his think tank.

”When they are freshmen, we would be despised if we bothered them, even causing interference from other clubs or schools. But if they were extraordinarily outstanding, our failure wouldn’t look that disgraceful.”

Sima Yi doodled in a scroll of ancient books, reading them seriously.

This didn’t stop him from giving Arthur·Ness a good tip: ”The loss has occurred, we can’t make the effect disappear, but we can minimize it.”

Arthur·Ness was at a loss.

”If you stumble over a stone while walking, it’s a joke. But if you find out that the stone that tripped you is unpolished jade, or even a chunk of gold, then it’s not a joke, but a beautiful story.”

Sima Yi expressed his opinion more clearly.

”What should we do?” Kitano Gen sat up straight.

”Be an elegant gentleman.” Sima Yi emphasized, giving everyone a look: ”The old saying ’guarding against the mouths of the people is more than guarding against a river.’ This incident has been fermenting in school for some time, and any attempt to eliminate this public opinion is futile. On the contrary, any of our actions to suppress public opinion will cause a greater rebound of public opinion. Those who fear the world will not be chaotic will ferment this incident with greater enthusiasm.”

”So we can’t block it. We have to guide it. Guide the students to shift their focus.”

”Change the focus?” Arthur·Ness seemed to understand a bit: ”There were others involved in our fight with those newcomers. I know a few sophomores from Starry Sky Academy, and there were also people playing dirty tricks on the side of the road.”

The rest of the people in the lounge nodded in agreement with Arthur’s statement.

”If it weren’t for the silence spell cast on the side of the road, the newcomer from Jiuyou Academy would have had no chance to throw his talisman!” Kitano Gen yelled excitedly on the sofa.

Sima Yi nodded, then shook his head, seemingly somewhat disappointed.

”Indeed, it can divert the attention of public opinion.”

”But it doesn’t change the fact that you were bullying the freshmen. Other students will still think you were suppressed by the talismans of some freshmen-which is true. Unarguable.”

Arthur·Ness’s face turned red, and he remained silent.

The rest of the people wisely shut their mouths.
