59: Chapter 59 Shadow Wall and Academy_1

59 -59 Shadow Wall and Academy_1

“What’s special about this gate?” Nicholas led a group of newcomers to an archway on the side of the hall, dramatically patting the head of the stone lion crouching at the entrance.

The stone lion turned its head slightly, not letting Nicholas mess up its mane.

Then it raised its huge paw and slapped the naughty guy flying into the distance.

The newcomers screamed in shock.

In the hall, the other veterans watched the scene with amused smirks, whispering something to the newbies they were leading.

Unfazed, Nicholas dusted off his non-existent dirt, licked his lips, and smiled flatteringly at the lion, “I was just teaching these tender newbies a lesson, sir.

Don’t take it to heart.”

The stone lion closed its eyes solemnly, its paw pressing a stone ball, squatting in silent dignity.

As if the paw that just swiped had nothing to do with it.

Nicholas shrugged indifferently, and looked back at his newcomers:

“What’s unique about this door?”

“There are two…uh…guardians at the entrance.” Zheng Qing said softly.

“There are nine ancient talismans on the door lintel.”

“And the circular logo of Jiuyou Academy.” The others chimed in with varying comments.

“Hmm, good, that about covers it.” Nicholas sighed, glanced at the gate-keeping stone lion, grimaced, and grumbled, “Now, enter.”

The newcomers cautiously walked past the stone lion, stealing glances in awe at these guards.

The stone lion sat in silence as if the slap earlier was illusory.

Walking through the archway felt ordinary.

Nothing unusual.

Zheng Qing only felt a sudden brightness before his eyes, and then he found himself in a lush environment.

Directly in front of him was a large, black-green screen wall, behind him was a thick, ancient door, and on the tall walls to his left and right, dense vines climbed.

The new students had just walked out of a small side door next to the main entrance.

A grunt came from behind.

Zheng Qing quickly turned his head to see Nicholas tumbling in.

“Ahead is a screen wall, you first find your names on it.”

While wincing in pain on the ground, Nicholas yelled at the stupefied new students, “Did you get that?

Never provoke any entity in the school, especially these seemingly rigid stone statues.”

“I must remind you, the first academy’s level of intelligence is quite high, or to put it in simpler terms, the level of magic is high.

Many items or entities that you often see will exist in ways you don’t understand.”

Feeling that he wasn’t explaining it very well, Nicholas added very seriously, “You’ll understand this over time.

What I need to remind you is, don’t insult — or behave similarly to — these entities.

Compared to you, they have more fragile emotions, they deserve more comfort.”

“Just like what happened to me just now, you’ll be punished…ouch,” he drew a sharp breath, and slapped his buttocks with the law book, which didn’t seem to have much effect.

In the end, he gave up his efforts, limping along to lead the way, “Did anyone find their names on the screen wall?”

The screen wall was a behemoth, approximately four to five meters high and eight to nine meters long.

The base of the screen wall was a vermilion seat carved out of Han white jade.

Bizarre mythical beasts were carved on the upper and lower vertical pillars.

The wall was a glossy, teal-black.

It wasn’t dazzling but instead exuded an elegant, ancient charm.

The roof of the wall had intricate overhangs covered in light green glazed tiles.

Complex talismans could clearly be seen on the tiles.

“Stare at the screen wall and chant your name,” Nicholas instructed from the side.

Zheng Qing nervously blinked, focused on the center of the screen wall, and mumbled his name to himself.

“Zheng Qing, Zheng Qing, Zheng Qing…”

Slowly, a few lines of text appeared on the screen wall.

At first, the characters were blurry.

But as he continued to chant, the lines grew bigger and clearer.

“Zheng Qing, Male, born in 1990.

Originated from the Huaxia Area.

Pupil of Jiuyou Academy, Astronomy Class 08-1.

Elementary school score: none.

Middle school score: none.

Wizard’s Unified Exam score: 480.”

Zheng Qing exhaled deeply, suddenly feeling much lighter.

He turned to look at Xiao Xiao, this small-built boy was frowning, thinking deeply in front of the mirror wall.

Then he had an epiphany and looked at the mirror wall again.

“Xiao Xiao, Xiao Xiao, Xiao Xiao!”

He silently repeated Xiao Xiao’s name in his heart.

The bluish-black wall stones were quiet and subdued under the late summer sun.

In response to Zheng Qing’s new request, this wall silently refused.

“What’s for lunch?” Xiao Xiao suddenly opened his mouth next to him.

“Oh, ah, I haven’t thought about that yet.” Zheng Qing hastily shifted his gaze, looking around.

His face heated up slightly, feeling as though he was a thief sneaking into someone else’s house and discovered by the owner.

Xiao Xiao Hu looked at him doubtfully.

Right in front of the mirror wall was a large gate.

The black gate was tightly closed, under the thick pillars on both sides were two turtle-like monsters that looked like made of stone.

The several-zhang-high purple-black wall stretched left and right along the gate, trailing far off.

The wind brushed past, the climbing vines on the walls rustled, further setting off the tranquil atmosphere here.

On both sides of the main gate were two zhang-high side gates.

Zheng Qing looked at the left-side gate and knew that behind it was the first great hall.

They had just exited from this side gate.

He looked up, huge trees stood quietly in the breeze outside the wall.

The rustling sound of the leaves made Zheng Qing absent-minded.

If he didn’t come out from that side gate earlier, he wouldn’t have been able to imagine what kind of world was behind that door.

“Every time a door is opened, it is an adventure, there is a magical world behind every door.”

Xiao Xiao flipped through his notebook, mumbling a sentence behind him.

Zheng Qing did not hear clearly, but he had already calmed down a bit.

He imitated the layout around the mirror wall and asked out of curiosity, “Do the areas behind other academy gates look like this too?”

“I just said each door leads to a magical world.

The other academies certainly don’t look like this!” Xiao Xiao waved his black notebook weakly.

“What you see beyond each gate depicts the character and style of the academy.

Like Alpha Academy, you won’t see a ‘mirror wall’ when you enter their gate.

They have a self-service inquiry machine behind the gate, which contains the relevant information of the students.

From what I know, what we’re seeing now is the territory of Jiuyou Academy, which should be considered ‘within the academy’.”

“Academy.” Zheng Qing repeated softly.

“Jiuyou Academy, Alpha Castle, Atlas Palace, Starry Sky School.” Xiao Xiao put away his notebook, his tone filled with longing.

“Everyone, come over and see this wall, yes, this mirror wall.” Nicolas was cheerfully calling out not far away.

He was spinning his law book with his fingertip.

Small electric sparks flashed around the law book, emanating crackling sounds.

The freshmen were immediately attracted.

“This mirror wall, also called the projection wall, is the iconic building of Jiuyou Academy’s ‘academy’.

The mirror wall contains information of all professors, students, staff, and even spiritual beasts of the academy.

Any invader with ill intent will have nowhere to hide under the mirror wall, and any unauthorized intrusion will trigger the mirror wall’s counterattack.”

“Don’t underestimate its counterattack.

This mirror wall is the fulcrum of the academy’s entire protection array.

Even registered official wizards cannot resist its restraint.”

“Remember this mirror wall, it will be your witness to knowledge and truth.”

Zheng Qing raised his hand.

Nicolas nodded with dignity.

“I just tried to see the information of other students,” as he spoke, Zheng Qing seemed to feel Xiao Xiao’s gaze on him, making his throat feel a little dry, “but the mirror wall didn’t display anything.”

A satisfied smile appeared on Nicolas’s face:

“Very keen attempt!

Very keen.”

He exclaimed loudly, clapping lightly for Zheng Qing.
