High School of Demon Hunting

61: Chapter 61 Lakeside Cabin of Bell Lake_1

61 -61 Lakeside Cabin of Bell Lake_1

Crossing the square, past the main teaching building, a sparkling lake appeared in the vision of the freshmen.

The surface of the lake was calm, the water was turquoise, the fine dense water grass lazily floated on the surface, blocking the sunlight above the water.

Several fiery red large birds floated on the water, hiding their heads in their wings, lazily dozing off.

Zheng Qing stood on the slippery banks of the lake, stretching his neck to carefully gauge the lake.

A dark shadow swiftly flew past under his eyes.

Zheng Qing got a fright and fell off the stone embankment.

“Be careful, we’ll talk about the issues in the lake later.” Nicholas patted him on the shoulder and continued to introduce the academy to the freshmen:

“The overall planning of the academy is strict.

If you consider the square we just passed as the forecourt, then this large lake is the middle courtyard.”

“The lake is called Lin Zhong Lake—don’t ask me why such an unlucky name has been chosen, I don’t know either.”

Nicholas waved his hand, stopping a few freshmen who were about to ask questions: “You just need to remember that these buildings around Lin Zhong Lake are the places you will visit most frequently throughout the school year.”

Zheng Qing looked around.

There were several buildings around the lake.

Nicholas introduced them one by one:

“That white tower is the school hospital.

Try not to look too often, it can bring bad luck.”

“That square, box-shaped building is the Wizard Union Bank, Bugi Island Jiuyou Branch.

You guys can try depositing your money into your student cards in a few days.”

“That building, which looks like a large cauldron, belongs to the school cafeteria.

The taste is average, the quantity is full, and the variety is wide.

Whether it is from the Blood Race, Werewolves, Ghosts, or even the Duoni People, as long as they are students of Jiuyou Academy, they can find suitable dishes in the cafeteria.”

“Across the lake, the building that looks like a small hill is one of our Jiuyou Academy’s greatest buildings, Jiuyou’s library— Book Mountain Library!

We are short on time, so we probably won’t go in today.”

Nicholas patiently introduced the buildings on both sides of Lin Zhong Lake to the newcomers.

Zheng Qing squinted his eyes and tried hard to look at the library on the other side of the lake.

Under the setting sun, the lake was shrouded in light mist, causing his vision to be blocked.

All he could see was a faint shadow.

After introducing the buildings on both sides of Lin Zhong Lake, Nicholas led the freshmen along the path by the lake.

At the end of the path, there was a wooden dock.

At the entrance of the dock, there was a small wooden house.

Outside the wooden house, a loose-skinned old dog was tied up.

Upon hearing the unfamiliar footsteps, it just turned its head, its wrinkled eyelids trembled, and it didn’t even let out a bark.

But the freshmen still carefully moved around it.

Nicholas knocked on the glass window of the wooden house:

“Uncle Ferna!

I am bringing the freshmen across the lake!”

The old dog lying in the straw nest hummed a few times, seeming very unhappy with Nicholas disturbing its sleep.

Nicholas chuckled, took out a biscuit from his pocket, and tossed it over.

The old dog sniffed with its nose but didn’t open its eyes.

However, it reached out with its paw and swiftly pulled the biscuit under its belly.

A muffled response came from inside the wooden house, and a small wooden plaque fell onto the windowsill.

Zheng Qing didn’t see where the wooden plaque fell from.

“Who’s inside?” He asked Nicholas in a low voice.

“The dock boss, the ferryman on the Silent River.

We all call him Uncle Ferna.” Nicholas was gesturing for the freshmen to get on the dock, and replied at the same time, “It’s said that he used to be a professor at the First University, but now he’s retired.”

“That dog looks very old!” someone commented.

“Its name is May, and it is more than twice as old as you youngsters!

It’s an old friend of Uncle Ferna’s.

If you see it wandering around the campus in the future, show it some respect.”

The freshmen nodded repeatedly.

At both sides of the dock, many small boats were parked.

The boats were crimson in color and were about the size for six or seven people.

A bamboo pole stood on the bow of the boat, with a small bronze bell hanging from it.

“These small boats are called Ze Meng, the main means of transportation in Lin Zhong Lake,” Nicholas called out to the new students to board one of the boats, cautioning: “If you don’t have a few hippopotamuses or water buffaloes in the lake, you’ll have to sit in the boat and cross the Lin Zhong Lake.

Remember, even though I’ve been at the best university for so long, I still can’t figure out exactly how many terrible things there are in the lake.”

“Are there water ghosts?” A young girl asked in a trembling voice.

“Water Ghosts?” Nicholas snorted disdainfully, “Those pests couldn’t survive a night in this lake.

The mermaid tribe in the lake loves using water ghosts as offerings.”

“Mermaids!” A male student screamed, hurriedly explaining to his companion on the side: “My grandmother said that mermaids eat human flesh, and the Alliance of Wizards has strict restrictions on their habitats,”

“This is one of the legal habitats for the mermaid tribe assigned by the Wizard Alliance.” A gloomy smile appeared on Nicholas’s face, “So, boys and girls!

Open your eyes wide!

Hold on to the ship’s side!

If you fall into the lake, you won’t even be able to blow a bubble, you’ll be dragged into the mud by the mermaids!”

Xiao Xiao yawned out of boredom, watching as Nicholas frightened the new students with his bluster.

Zheng Qing was staring at the water’s surface, not missing a single ripple.

“Hold tight!” Nicholas shouted, grabbing the bamboo pole on the bow of the boat and shaking it forcefully.

“Ding!

Ding!

Ding!”

The bronze bell on the bamboo pole swayed, making a clear tremor.

The Ze Meng boat shivered slightly.

The new students on the boat held onto the side of the boat in terror.

“We are setting sail!” Nicholas shouted, stomping vigorously.

The small boat violently rocked, causing panic among the students on board.

Zheng Qing saw a black cable on the bow of the boat slowly tightening, creating various depths of ripples on the water’s surface.

“There’s something ahead!” he shouted.

But the other new students on the boat were screaming, drowning out his voice.

“There’s something underneath the boat!” Zheng Qing gripped the paper box with one hand and boomed towards Xiao Xiao while holding onto the side of the boat with the other.

Nicholas, standing at the bow of the boat, chuckled as he watched these terrified new students.

“They’re boatmen!” Xiao Xiao moved closer and whispered in Zheng Qing’s ear, “Those in the water are the school’s hired boatmen.

All these boats have to rely on these boatmen to move.”

“Boatmen?” Zheng Qing was surprised.

“It might be a mermaid, a kappa, or a water snake.

There are so many intelligent beings in the water, anyone would want to earn a few jade coins from wizards.” Xiao Xiao held onto the side of the boat with both hands, his face a bit pale, “Don’t talk to me anymore, I’m getting seasick!”

The large glasses slid slightly down on his pale face, but Xiao Xiao held on tightly to the side of the boat, not daring to move.

Zheng Qing held back his laughter, and looked down at the paper box in his arms.

The little elves were still quietly sleeping.

It seems they don’t have the concept of seasickness.

There was a small island in the middle of the lake, and a white stone tower stood on the island.

The tower was made up of seven levels, with cornices and bracket sets, and from afar, you could vaguely see the bronze bells and silk hanging from the eaves.

The little boat sped past this small island with the boatman’s towing.

“What’s on that island?” Zheng Qing pointed at the small tower and looked at Nicholas.

“Forbidden land.” Nicholas looked at the new students, warning them, “Although your mentors will tell you in a few days, I think it is necessary to say it in advance.

The small island in the center of the lake is one of the school’s forbidden lands, and there are extremely powerful spells on it.

Anyone, including the school’s professors, is not allowed to set foot on the island without permission.”

The new students looked at the small island in reverence as it slowly disappeared before their eyes.

No one was silly enough to ask about the consequences of setting foot on the island.

“Do we need to cross the lake by this boat every time?” Zheng Qing looked at the taut cable on the bow of the boat, always feeling uneasy.

“Of course not!” Nicholas seemed a bit annoyed, “Didn’t I mention in the hall that the school has many doors, and you can reach different places by pushing them open.

The school also has many corridors, some of which even connect to other academies!”

Zheng Qing nodded repeatedly.
