Destined Entwining: Capturing My Devoted Beau

Chapter 216: Chapter 124: We All Rely on Our Fathers’ Abilities for a Living (Third Update)

Spring Spencer finished speaking and looked around at the people in the meeting room with her bright almond-shaped eyes. ”So, what does everyone think? Shouldn’t we quickly make a deal with Yan University to suppress the negative press against Spencer Group?”

What she meant was, although it was a donation in the name of Spencer Group, the actual money came from the Spencer Family, from her father.

The funds in Summer Spencer’s trust fund still technically belonged to her father, Cameron Spencer, because he could revoke Summer Spencer’s trust fund at any time.

Since Spencer Group wouldn’t have to pay, and could earn a good reputation from the naming, the board shouldn’t act all high and mighty, taking advantage of someone else’s generosity.

Everyone understood what she was implying, even those from the Rayner Clan stopped opposing.

One by one, they cheerfully said, ”Oh, why didn’t you say so earlier? This issue would have been resolved long ago had you been clearer!”

”Yeah, yeah, Spencer, you’re impressive. A single move and it’s a billion-dollar donation, we’re not in your league, hahaha!”

The Rayner Clan members coldly remarked, ”Why didn’t you say it sooner? Only after we gave our opinions? Was it intentional?”

Spring Spencer did not argue with them, just watched them with a soft smile.

This calm and silent demeanor was more powerful than a loud argument.

It made them feel very uncomfortable inside.

But with Cameron Spencer sitting nearby, obviously backing Spring Spencer, they could only be angry without daring to speak.

The rest of the matters went smoothly.

The board unanimously passed the proposal to build a library for Yan University, named after Spencer Group.

After this proposal was passed, Cameron Spencer threw out the photos that Justus Spencer had just sent back and angrily said, ”There is one more issue that everyone needs to be aware of.”

”Justus was attacked in the Capital City, look, his legs were beaten so badly he couldn’t stand!”

He slammed the table in anger: ”First me, then Spring Spencer, and now Justus?! What are some people trying to do?! Drive all our Spencer family members out of Spencer Group?!”

”How could this happen?!”

”Who did it?!”

”The audacity! Give me a knife, I’ll slash them!”

”Boss Spencer, you have to stand up for our Justus! – he’s so young and doesn’t even have kids yet!”

The last to cry out was someone from the Rayner family.

Spring Spencer laughed lightly and said, ”Indeed, the nephew takes after the uncle, the family only helps their own. Last Chinese New Year when my father and I were attacked in River City, I didn’t hear a word from any of you.”

The person sheepishly said, ”How could we have not asked? We sent several carloads of comfort items to your home...”

”Yes, but not a single person was seen.” Spring Spencer was confronting the Rayner family.

”Spencer said to keep quiet and rest, could we disturb?”

”Well, since you’re so obedient, why was it when we suggested changing the scholarship to a library grant you were all against it?” Spring Spencer was alone against the whole board, yet her combativeness wasn’t weak at all.

Cameron Spencer slowly nodded beside her, with a look of satisfaction on his face.

He listened quietly until Spring Spencer left everyone speechless, then said, ”Alright, Spring Spencer, you must give your uncles some face, saying things like this is too hurtful, isn’t it?”

This was openly criticizing her, but actually praising her.

Spring Spencer felt a surge of joy in her heart, but soon it was overtaken by a faint helplessness, feeling somewhat exhausted but unable to relax because if she did, all her past efforts would go to waste.

In the workplace, reaching the upper level is like sailing against the current, not advancing means retreating, there’s no middle road to choose, nor can one simply muddle through.

Following Cameron Spencer’s words, she clasped her hands towards the board members, smiled, and said, ”Uncles please forgive my youthful ignorance and careless words!”

”Hahahaha, you’re becoming more articulate.” Cameron Spencer complimented her, and then said to the board, ”I’ve reported the attacks in River City to the police. Later when the police come for investigation, please cooperate with them if they need to question anyone.”

”Ah? You reported it to the police? Such a trivial matter, must you make a big fuss over it? If the shareholders get wind of this, who knows how our Spencer Group’s stock price might fluctuate...” The Rayner family clearly didn’t want this to blow up.

Spring Spencer sneered, ”That won’t do, covering it up would have worse consequences, and if it exploded, the entire group would be in a worse state.”

Cameron Spencer nodded, ”I agree with Spring Spencer. Besides, it’s only a criminal investigation, it has nothing to do with company operations, why panic?”

He said this directed at the Rayner family.

These people looked at him, hesitant to speak.

Spring Spencer also sensed it, wondering silently, what was up with the Rayner family today?

It was like they took some harsh medicine.

In the past, although they were quite numerous in the board, they hardly spoke and always sided with them.

Not only was Spring Spencer puzzled, but others in the board were also puzzled.

This suspicion was finally answered when Cameron Spencer declared the meeting over.

The leading person of the Rayner family was the first to ask Cameron Spencer, ”Boss Spencer, why did you divorce our cousin just like that?”

”What did she do wrong to the Spencer family?”

”You have so many concubines, she never said a thing and even gave you your only son! – One shouldn’t forget their roots!”

Cameron Spencer initially didn’t want to respond, but he was enraged by the words ”one shouldn’t forget their roots,” slamming the table he said, ”One shouldn’t forget their roots! Shall we talk about how much benefit your Rayner family has reaped from our Spencer family over the decades?! – Shall I fetch the account books and show you!”

Spring Spencer listened on the side, her heart in turmoil.

Father got divorced?!

He finally got divorced?!

Spring Spencer quickly slipped out of the meeting room, hurried back to her office, closed the door, and immediately called her mother.

”Mom, you should come back to the country, father finally divorced Ruby Rayner.”
