Peaceful Farm Life

Chapter 2132: Chapter 2133: We Are Not Afraid (4)

An Jing saw Wu Meifeng rushing over, so she brandished the feather duster, as if daring Wu Meifeng to approach, ready to hit her.

Seeing Lin Jiecheng in so much pain that sweat covered his forehead, Wu Meifeng immediately dared not walk toward An Jing, fearing being hit by her. Instead, she plopped to the ground, crying hysterically and cursing An Jing for being an ungrateful daughter, actually hitting her father.

Soon, many residents from the building gathered to watch.

Lin Jiecheng, seeing so many people watching, immediately ignored the pain in his stomach and wrist, angrily accusing An Jing through tears and snot for being ungrateful, hitting him.

The residents all knew what kind of people Lin Jiecheng and Wu Meifeng were. Even though they cried so desperately, no one helped them to criticize An Jing.

Instead, An Jing calmly spoke, loudly addressing the onlookers: ”We’ve all been neighbors for a long time, and you know what kind of life I’ve had in this family. Twenty days ago, you probably know as well, my dear sister Lin Anrou pushed me down the stairs. I could let that go, but she didn’t even take me to the hospital; it was thanks to you kind neighbors who did. Later, maybe fearing she’d actually kill me, they did visit the hospital, but when the hospital asked them to pay the medical bills, they ran away faster than rabbits. No matter how many times the hospital called them, they didn’t answer, didn’t pay a penny. I’m still in debt to the hospital now, even though I hand my salary over to them every month. I’m heartbroken, truly heartbroken. How can you say I could still stay in this family?”

A neighbor immediately, indignantly said, ”We’ve long advised you to leave this family. You were the one who insisted on seeing yourself as part of it, allowing them to beat and bully you.”

Other neighbors chimed in: ”Exactly, exactly. If I were in your shoes, I would’ve disowned them a long time ago. You were left uncared for at the hospital—it’s all your doing. If you had stopped recognizing them earlier, none of this would’ve happened.”

Typically, everyone advised reconciliation, but through these years, they all saw Lin Anjing’s sufferings with their own eyes, thus advising her this way.

An Jing immediately feigned a bitter smile: ”I used to be foolish. I thought having a family meant having warmth. Who knew about them... Now I’m completely disheartened by this family. If I stay, who knows, Lin Anrou might push me down the stairs again one day. This time, I was lucky to survive; future incidents are uncertain.”

Pretending to be very sad and utterly forlorn, An Jing sniffled before continuing: ”Thank you all for taking care of me in the past. I will never come back here again. From now on, I have nothing to do with this family.”

The onlookers immediately expressed their support: ”That’s the right way to do it. They don’t even treat you like a person. There’s no need for you to come back. You’ll do much better outside; you’re hardworking, anywhere will be better than staying in that family.”

An Jing said, ”This will no longer be my home.”

Lin Jiecheng and Wu Meifeng wouldn’t have it, shouting: ”Whether or not you stay in this family, you must regularly give us money every month! We’re old now, without jobs. By not providing us with living expenses, you’re forcing us to death!”

Before An Jing could speak, the neighbors started spitting angrily: ”Shameless! You’re only in your forties, perfectly capable of working. You’ve long enjoyed An Jing’s support without doing anything, constantly abusing and beating An Jing, leaving her always injured—have you no conscience?”
