Peaceful Farm Life

Chapter 1740: Chapter 1741: What’s the Use?

”Zhizhi?” Seeing Ye Zhi looking at him with a very complex expression without saying a word, Gong Juechen waited for a while and still cautiously called her name. He didn’t want her to be afraid of him, he really didn’t want that.

Ye Zhi suddenly had red eyes, her voice a bit choked, ”How could you be the Slayer Tower Master? How could you...”

She always knew he was mouthy, not exactly a good person, but she didn’t think he was bad.

Now, he unexpectedly told her he was the Slayer Tower Master. If his identity were exposed, those who held grudges would definitely seek revenge, and even those without grudges would want to kill him, to remove this threat.

But she hoped he would be safe.

Safe to live with her, safe to raise their precious daughter together.

Seeing Ye Zhi’s red eyes, Gong Juechen’s eyes instantly turned red with heartache, ”I also didn’t want it, but I misunderstood Su Haoyu wanted to kill me back then. I was afraid Su Haoyu would find out I was still alive and send people to kill me again, afraid of implicating Se Se, so I agreed to my master’s request and became the Young Master of Slayer Tower. Later, when my master died, I automatically became the Tower Master. I just wanted more ability to protect the people I cared about; Slayer Tower has the ability to easily help me counter Su Haoyu. I really didn’t want this... Zhizhi, I really didn’t want this...”

As he spoke, Gong Juechen’s voice also became a bit choked, and he even held Ye Zhi’s hand tightly, begging, ”Zhizhi, don’t be afraid of me, please don’t leave me. If you leave me, I don’t know what I might do. I’m begging you, consider it my plea—”

Upon hearing this, Ye Zhi couldn’t help but interrupt him, ”What are you saying? Why would I be afraid of you? Why would I leave you? You’ve done many bad things, but you’re good to me! I won’t leave you!”

Upon hearing this, Gong Juechen was instantly overjoyed, ”Really?”

”Do I look like I’m lying? Alright, you, a grown man, always crying. What does that look like?” Clearly, this person was not cowardly, but every time he ended up looking like a mess. Sometimes she genuinely felt he wasn’t like a man.

Gong Juechen defended himself, ”I didn’t cry this time...”

”But you’re about to cry.” She heard his choked voice becoming heavier, and he looked on the verge of breaking down into tears.

Gong Juechen said nothing, but he was particularly happy inside. His Zhizhi wasn’t afraid of him and wouldn’t leave him, it felt wonderful!

Ye Zhi then asked, ”Why did you suddenly straightforwardly confess to me that you’re the Slayer Tower Master?”

Only then did Gong Juechen tell Ye Zhi about An Jing and Xiao Changyi’s visit today, why they came to find him, and everything An Jing and Xiao Changyi said to him.

After listening, Ye Zhi agreed, ”Boss and my brother-in-law are right. You should lead the Slayer Tower to turn from evil to good.”

Gong Juechen immediately got excited, ”I want to turn from evil to good too, but what’s the use? Would those people stop wanting to destroy Slayer Tower just because we started doing good deeds in the future? Zhizhi, why are you as naive as An Jing and them? Even if Slayer Tower turned from evil to good, people would still be uneasy about us. Slayer Tower has done too many bad things, it’s impossible to clean. Plus, Slayer Tower’s influence is too large, with too many wary people. Once I and Slayer Tower are exposed, how many people will come seeking revenge? As the Building Master, my master treated me with deep kindness, Slayer Tower is my responsibility, and I absolutely won’t allow such a thing to happen!”
