Chapter 1705: Chapter 1706: An Jing Is Troubled

Pondering on this, Dongfang Tianyang felt a heightened sense of crisis.

If the person who looks exactly like him is in disguise, logically, they should be able to disguise themselves as others.

If that person disguised as him to rescue An Jing from the palace, then they must be Xiao Changyi’s people. Xiao Changyi has people skilled in disguise under him. If they disguise as a leader in his army and manipulate his troops, the consequences would be dire.

Could it be that Xiao Changyi’s countless victories in the past were because he had someone in disguise under him?

Thinking of this, Dongfang Tianyang nodded, as if agreeing that it was indeed the case.

Immediately, Dongfang Tianyang ordered, ”Issue a decree nationwide to hunt down Su Changyi and his associates. All exits from the palace and city gates must strictly inspect everyone passing through. Upon discovering any suspicious person, regardless of whether they are Su Changyi, they should be killed without mercy.”

Su Changyi has people capable of disguise. What if they disguise as commoners of Dongqing to enter and exit the different cities?

Therefore, it’s better to kill a hundred by mistake than to let one go. At this moment, this is what Dongfang Tianyang thought.

”Yes, Emperor!”

”Also, command General Yu to lead an army of two hundred thousand to protect the Imperial Palace.” Since An Jing has been rescued, she might already have reunited with Xiao Changyi. Now, Xiao Changyi would never let him go.

He truly felt a strong sense of crisis.

He wanted to deploy more troops, but he didn’t have that much manpower. Dongqing’s entire military force is only seven hundred thousand. Ten thousand have already been destroyed, leaving sixty thousand. Now, another two hundred thousand are being deployed, leaving only four hundred thousand.

And these four hundred thousand troops are either distributed in other cities of Dongqing or guarding Dongqing’s borders; they cannot be easily dispatched to the Imperial City. Once they are, the borders and other cities will become unstable.

”Yes, Emperor!”

”Execute all the palace maids and eunuchs who served An Jing in the Quiet Heart Garden. As for the guards there, transfer them back to my side to protect me,” Dongfang Tianyang continued to order. If not for these guards being quite skilled and somewhat useful, he would actually want them killed too.

”Yes, Emperor!”

What Dongfang Tianyang did not anticipate was that in the month that followed, every few days, he would lose the military force of one city at a speed that left him utterly defenseless.

It was heard that his forces were destroyed by masked men.

At first, he didn’t know who these masked men were or why they were so formidable, but by the time the military force of his eighth city was destroyed, he finally knew and was completely certain—it was the work of the Slayer Tower.

This was because a skilled young general escaped from the eighth city and managed to pick up a waist token amidst the chaos caused by the masked men, which bore the glaring character ’Slay.’

”Slayer Tower...” Dongfang Tianyang gritted his teeth in hatred, thinking Slayer Tower was despicable for not completing the job even after accepting money and now even destroying his military forces.

However, despite his extreme hatred for Slayer Tower, he had no way to deal with them.

But from the looks of it, Slayer Tower seemed intent on destroying his Dongqing...

Thinking of this, while consumed with hatred, Dongfang Tianyang ordered, ”Deploy all remaining forces to the Imperial City.”

There was no alternative; now he could only sacrifice lesser pieces to protect the king.

...

While Dongfang Tianyang was deeply troubled by the successive destruction of his forces, An Jing was also quite troubled.

It wasn’t because An Jing had yet to seek revenge on Dongfang Tianyang that she was troubled; she was troubled because her husband was now eating very little at each meal. She finally understood why her husband was so thin.
