Peaceful Farm Life

Chapter 1730: Chapter 1731: There’s Something That Needs to Be Investigated

An Jing glanced at the pot and saw there was indeed quite a bit of soup left, so she said, ”Then I’ll have a bowl.”

”Okay.” After a pause, Xiao Changyi asked, ”Where are Jing’er and the others? Why haven’t I seen them?”

”Jing’er went to Meng Zhuqing’s courtyard to practice martial arts. Ever since Jing’er confiscated the key to Star’s little private treasury, Star has been following Jing’er around, hoping Jing’er would return the key to him. Now that Jing’er has gone to Meng Zhuqing’s place, naturally, he has followed him. As for Qinger, he went to the General’s Residence to play with Si Bo, and Yun Er is in the study reading.”

Xiao Changyi originally planned to have Jing Xingqingyun help drink some of the soup as well, but now it seemed he would have to drink it himself.

However, Xiao Changyi fed the three little beauties some soup while drinking half a bowl himself.

An Jing feared he would feel uncomfortable if he drank too much, so she didn’t force him to drink more.

The three little beauties were still too young, and fearing they might get an upset stomach from drinking too much chicken soup, Xiao Changyi dared not give them too much, merely feeding them a few symbolic sips before having the maids remove the soup.

Seeing no more soup to drink, the three little beauties were about to cry. In the end, it was An Jing who coaxed them, ”Shall mommy take you out to play?”

Upon hearing about going out to play, the eyes of the three little beauties lit up instantly, and there was no trace of their previous tears. They all happily exclaimed, ”Play... play...”

Seeing how the three little beauties truly loved the outdoors, An Jing and Xiao Changyi exchanged a smile before taking the three little ones outside for a stroll in the courtyard.

The three little beauties waddled in front, while An Jing and Xiao Changyi followed behind, chatting all the while.

”What did Chengyu say?” An Jing asked Xiao Changyi. She was aware that her husband had entered the palace today and knew his intentions clearly.

Xiao Changyi didn’t say anything immediately. Instead, he had the maids serving in the courtyard step back and instructed Qin Yi and Qin Er to guard outside the main courtyard, allowing no one to enter.

Once there were no outsiders and it was safe to speak, Xiao Changyi calmly relayed his and Su Chengyu’s discussion to An Jing word for word.

After hearing it, An Jing let out a big sigh of relief: ”We were most worried that he would fear Gong Juechen. Now it’s fine; we really don’t need to worry anymore.” She paused, ”If it wasn’t Gong Juechen’s imperial consort mother who caused the death of his foster mother, he and Gong Juechen could surely become good brothers.”

Xiao Changyi nodded. He thought so too. Gong Juechen might seem carefree and unprincipled, but he was actually quite sentimental and loyal. As for Su Chengyu, there’s no need to even mention him; if he didn’t value sentiments and loyalty, not only would he fail to become a king standing shoulder to shoulder, but he would certainly be watched with suspicion until he meets his end.

One must remember, those whose achievements overshadowed their lords throughout history had never met good ends.

”Today is already the seventeenth,” An Jing continued, ”and there are only a dozen days until New Year’s Eve. I think it’s better to wait until after the New Year to persuade Gong Juechen to abandon evil for good. I’m afraid that if we address it now, Gong Juechen and Ye Zhi won’t have a good time over the holiday. As you know, Ye Zhi has always been hateful towards evil and can be extremely impulsive at times. I’m afraid that if she finds out, she won’t be in a festive mood at all and might do something that prevents everyone from having a peaceful holiday.”

”Okay.” Xiao Changyi also felt it was better to wait until after the New Year.

After a pause, Xiao Changyi added, ”However, there’s something else that I need Meng Zhuqing to investigate.”

”What is it?”

Xiao Changyi lowered his voice and whispered in An Jing’s ear, ”Hasn’t he always been going to Nuan Huan Pavilion lately...”
