The Wealthy Tycoon's Game of Life

Chapter 1494: Chapter 591: No. 90 Shallow Bay Road

Yesterday it had still been pouring, the weather gloomy, but after a night, today turned into a fine day. The morning light pierced through the clouds and, as time passed, quickly scattered the mist all around, leaving the sky a clear, washed-out blue.

The Rolls-Royce’s window was lowered halfway. Basking in the bright sunlight, Sun Xining couldn’t help softly humming a tune.

She didn’t know if it was just psychological, but the moment they passed that checkpoint, Sun Xining suddenly felt even the smell flowing in the air had become completely different.

She knew where this change came from.

This wasn’t her first time coming to Hong Kong Island. It was just that last time, she had only been a passerby, seeing the sights in a hurry. But this time, barring any accidents, she was about to settle down here, and might be living here for a very long stretch in the future.

A couple of days ago she had gone back to Jing City, visited her father, and had a meal with a few best girlfriends and old classmates.

Just about as she’d expected, her old man, Sun Liancheng, was very happy at first. But the moment Sun Xining said, ”I’ve found a man, and I’m going to settle in another place in the future,” Sun Liancheng’s expression changed on the spot.

Everything followed more or less the same pattern as in her memories—scolding, silence, parting on bad terms...

When Sun Xining was about to leave with her luggage, Sun Liancheng started regretting whether his tone had been too harsh, and turned around to seek his daughter’s forgiveness.

In the end, though, Sun Xining still didn’t tell Sun Liancheng who ”that man” was. She only said she might be settling down on Hong Kong Island.

Under Sun Liancheng’s near-humble pleading, Sun Xining still stayed and had one last meal with him.

Sun Liancheng drank quite a lot again. In the end, drunk and reeking of liquor, he grabbed her and said, ”Ningning, I know you hate me in your heart. Back then, what I did was letting you and your mother down. You haven’t forgiven Dad, and to tell you the truth, Dad hasn’t forgiven himself either...”

As the tears streamed down his face, Sun Liancheng shoved a bank card into Sun Xining’s hand.

”What’s in here is your old man’s savings from half a lifetime. If you really never come back in the future, Dad won’t blame you. But promise Dad you’ll definitely take good care of yourself... And also, don’t trust men too much. I’m a man myself—how could I not know what men are like...”

Sun Liancheng rambled on and on, saying a lot, then slumped over the table and stopped moving.

Sun Xining’s lips moved, but in the end she still couldn’t get any words out.

She only sat there quietly for a while, then stood up and began clearing the dishes. After washing up, she cleaned the house, tossed Sun Liancheng’s dirty clothes into the washing machine, and finally helped him onto the sofa and covered him with a quilt.

After some hesitation, Sun Xining still tore off a slip of paper, wrote her newly registered Hong Kong Island number on it, and placed it on the coffee table in the living room together with that bank card.

After doing all this, Sun Xining picked up her luggage and left without looking back.

Only when she stepped out the door did Sun Xining realize there were still traces of tears on her own face. She silently wiped them away, then flagged down a taxi by the roadside and headed straight for the airport.

As her thoughts drifted back, Sun Xining took out her phone, snapped a photo of the deep blue sky over this land, then picked a recent selfie, and posted a Moments update.

”This time, I’m really going to stick around here.”

The caption was a bit random and out of context, but Sun Xining felt that if it was him, he should be able to get what she meant...

From the checkpoint all the way to downtown Hong Kong Island, the ride wasn’t actually short, but Sun Xining didn’t find the time boring at all. On the contrary, she felt every bit of scenery along the way was interesting.

About an hour later, the Rolls-Royce finally arrived at its destination.

As the car began to slow down, Sun Xining noticed the sign by the roadside that read ”Shallow Bay Road,” and couldn’t help thinking, so this is where I’m going to live from now on?

A few minutes later, the Rolls-Royce came to a complete stop. The female housekeeper in the front passenger seat quickly got out and helped her open the door.

”Miss Sun, we’ve arrived.”

In a voice carrying a clear Hong Kong Island accent, the housekeeper greeted Sun Xining with a warm smile.

On the way over, Sun Xining had already learned that this housekeeper’s surname was Lin. In all likelihood, she would be the one looking after Sun Xining’s daily life on Hong Kong Island and would be someone close at her side. So Sun Xining didn’t hold back. While curiously taking in the row of towering townhouses at the gate, she asked:

”No. 90 Shallow Bay Road... Aunt Lin, is this where I’ll be living from now on?”

(The real-scene photo is a bit blurry, just make do and take a look.)

”Yes, Miss Sun, this will be your residence from now on.”

Aunt Lin’s eyes were full of envy as she explained, ”This No. 90 Shallow Bay Road is one of the top luxury properties under Cheung Kong Real Estate... Miss Sun, look, there are only five villa mansions inside. The one we’re moving into is Mansion No. 5, also the largest one here, with over five thousand square feet. Just the rooftop and garden alone are more than one thousand square feet!”

”Square feet?”

Not very knowledgeable on this sort of thing, Sun Xining instantly looked confused.

Aunt Lin didn’t find it strange. Lots of people from the mainland probably couldn’t figure out Hong Kong Island’s property measurement units, so she explained, ”On Hong Kong Island, the area of a home is usually measured in square feet. Converted, five thousand-odd square feet is about five hundred square meters.”

This time, Sun Xining really had a concrete sense of it. Even though she didn’t know much about the property market, housing prices in Peng City were already sky-high. In a place like Hong Kong Island where every inch of land was worth its weight in gold, a five-hundred-square-meter villa mansion, wouldn’t that just...
