Algorithm system

The Terror of the Internet 2After the start of the second semester of his first year of graduate school, Lin Yuan not only missed the opening ceremony but also rarely attended classes.

He was too busy with the preliminary preparations for Tesla Takeout, making it impossible for him to spare any time.

The long-unseen Gu Xuan once again caused trouble; he wanted to seize the opportunity to kick Lin Yuan out of his 3D structured light project team.

Because Lin Yuan had been very impolite to him before, in his opinion, if Lin Yuan wanted to get a second author credit on an SCI paper, he should obediently act as his subordinate.

But in reality, Lin Yuan had long forgotten about this matter.

Originally, getting a second author credit on an SCI paper from Gu Xuan was entirely to complete a task given by the system and to gain computing power from it.

But later, Lin Yuan himself didn’t expect that his progress would be so rapid.

Now that Lin Yuan was collaborating with Musk to start a business, what good was an SCI paper?

After all, Musk had never published an SCI paper, and it didn’t affect his personal success.

Therefore, during one of Lin Yuan’s rare class attendances, facing Gu Xuan’s sarcastic remarks, Lin Yuan restrained himself and replied with a single word: “SX.”

Gu Xuan quickly took the opportunity to run to Professor Zhang to complain, using this as an excuse to demand Lin Yuan’s removal from the project team.

Gu Xuan knew that Professor Zhang and Lin Yuan had an unusual relationship, so he specifically found an excuse before going to complain.

He originally thought Professor Zhang would favor Lin Yuan, and that he probably wouldn’t succeed this time, likely needing to make several more attempts to get Lin Yuan out.

But to his surprise, Professor Zhang readily agreed.

More precisely, Professor Zhang simply looked like he couldn’t be bothered.

“Do whatever you want. Lin Yuan is too busy; he doesn’t have time to deal with your matters.”

Professor Zhang’s expression wasn’t very pleasant when he replied, and Gu Xuan didn’t immediately understand why Professor Zhang wasn’t favoring Lin Yuan this time, yet his expression showed clear impatience towards him.

Soon after, Gu Xuan found out the answer.

Because about a month after school started, the whole world knew—Musk was going to establish Tesla Takeout in the Dragon Kingdom, and Lin Yuan was the AI technology partner.

The first time he saw this news, Gu Xuan thought it was another Lin Yuan with the same name.

He couldn’t believe that Lin Yuan would have such capability.

But gradually, rumors began to spread among the students.

“Did you know, that Lin Yuan really is Lin Yuan…”

“Lin Yuan is truly a hidden big shot…”

“No way? Then should we go beg him now, so he can let us directly join Tesla’s R&D department after graduation?”

...

Even though rumors were flying everywhere, Gu Xuan still didn’t believe it.

Until an official news article appeared on the school’s official website: “Lin Yuan, an outstanding student from our school’s Computer Science Department, will hold an important position in Tesla’s new startup project.”

After reading the entire press release, Gu Xuan finally had no choice but to believe it.

At this moment, he finally understood.

No wonder Professor Zhang said, “Do whatever you want; Lin Yuan is too busy to deal with your matters.”

Gu Xuan instantly became a clown.

He felt incredibly naive about his delusion of trying to control Lin Yuan through an SCI paper.

An SCI paper?

He feared that now, major top journals would be begging Lin Yuan to submit articles to them.

Gu Xuan had to admit that even if he became an outstanding graduate, when he looked for a job in the future, it wouldn’t be Lin Yuan’s level interviewing him, but rather the people interviewing him would be N levels below Lin Yuan.

Lin Yuan was the head of AI technology for Tesla Takeout; in fact, he was the CTO specifically responsible for the AI branch.

In other words, he was already ten thousand miles away from Lin Yuan.

Gu Xuan claimed that he had watched Lin Yuan get into Zijin Aviation School, and he believed he knew Lin Yuan’s technical level very well, especially since Lin Yuan was able to get in because Professor Zhang specially approved it, and Lin Yuan had even failed several subjects at the end of the last semester.

That’s it? He became the CTO of the AI branch for Tesla’s new startup project?

Gu Xuan suddenly had an intuition—I could do that too.

He also quickly formed an opinion—Lin Yuan was just a connected person.

Otherwise, why would he have had a smooth ride since enrollment? Professor Zhang and Dean Li took turns giving him all sorts of special treatment.

Furthermore, there were rumors that Dean Li was seemingly about to be promoted to a permanent position because of Lin Yuan, and after the current dean was transferred, he would be the next full dean.

The answer was already very clear then. ’It’s not that I’m not capable; it’s that Lin Yuan has too strong a background.’

Gu Xuan, who thought he had figured everything out, felt incredibly conflicted about Lin Yuan; he deeply regretted his lack of foresight and offending this young master, Lin Yuan.

If Lin Yuan was willing to forgive him, he would do anything.

After all, although Gu Xuan could afford a Mercedes-Benz C260 while studying, the ceiling for his kind of modestly wealthy family was right there; how could he have the opportunity to meet someone like Musk? He thought, his father’s lifelong dream was for him to achieve a class leap.

But now, the ladder was right in front of him, and he himself failed to grasp it.

After several days and nights of deep thought, Gu Xuan finally made up his mind.

During one of Lin Yuan’s rare class attendances, he initiative offered to give the first author credit of the SCI paper to Lin Yuan.

Facing Gu Xuan, who had suddenly changed his demeanor, Lin Yuan looked at him as if he were an idiot, “Why are you inexplicably giving me the first author credit?”

“Uh… to apologize to you. I was wrong before.” Gu Xuan’s attitude was very sincere.

“You don’t need to apologize; just don’t be disgusting so often.”

“Lin Yuan, is there any chance… are you still short of people on your end?”

Lin Yuan finally understood; it turned out Gu Xuan wanted his help.

It was no wonder; ever since his appointment was announced, people were pointing fingers everywhere he walked on campus, and many girls came up to him every day asking for his WeChat.

Lin Yuan had even heard that girls from outside the local campus were also coming to block him.

So much so that he had to wear a mask when walking on the street.

“Gu Xuan, Tesla Takeout, as a startup, will definitely be hiring. If you want to join, you can just keep an eye on the recruitment information later.

I’m not in charge of human resources, so don’t worry, I won’t block you.” At this point, Gu Xuan’s expression brightened considerably, as he heard that Lin Yuan had no intention of retaliating against him.

However, Lin Yuan’s next words embarrassed Gu Xuan.

“But I also won’t help you pull strings. We are mere acquaintances, and you’ve always prided yourself on being a top student, so you can just rely on your own abilities to strive for it.”

Lin Yuan was very straightforward. Although he found Gu Xuan quite unlikeable, he believed there were many rotten people in the world, and he had no right to casually judge others.

As long as Gu Xuan didn’t disgust him again, he was too lazy to bother with him.

Because there was simply no need.

Lin Yuan was so busy; why would he bother getting angry with a Gu Xuan?

But Gu Xuan didn’t see it that way; wasn’t he wagging his tail and begging just to get Lin Yuan to help him?

Looking at Lin Yuan’s unyielding expression, Gu Xuan’s mood plummeted to rock bottom.

‘You are so noble, you are so amazing…’

Amidst his resentment, Gu Xuan witnessed the polarization of Lin Yuan’s online reputation.

He, of course, sided with the detractors.

And he even specifically concocted a short essay— “Tech Elite? Just Another Connected Person!”

As an anonymous insider, Gu Xuan exposed Lin Yuan completely in this short essay.

From the time Lin Yuan entered Zijin Aviation School, every single event was exaggerated and elaborated upon, with all narratives pointing to one core idea—Lin Yuan was just a connected person.

Because Gu Xuan indeed knew some things about Lin Yuan, his short essay quickly went viral.

This material quickly became evidence to discredit Lin Yuan.

Lin Yuan inevitably became an outlet for some negative social emotions.

He was puzzled, wondering how he, who had clearly come all the way from being a delivery boy, was now being called a connected person.
