The Maker: Hollywood

The audio file didn’t drop on a major news network, and it didn’t come from a verified corporate whistleblower account.

It popped up at 11:42 PM on a Tuesday night on Twitter, posted by an anonymous account with zero followers, an egg avatar, and the handle `@mouse_trap_2034`.

The tweet contained no text. Just a single, static image of the Walt Disney Studios water tower, with a four-minute-and-twelve-second audio clip attached.

For the first twenty minutes, nobody noticed it. It sat in the digital void.

But whoever ran the account knew what they were doing. They started tagging prominent film journalists, box office analysts, and AMC theater fan accounts. Eventually, a mid-level box office reporter for an independent blog clicked play, assuming it was a fake leak or a prank.

Thirty seconds into the audio, the reporter choked on his drink, grabbed his phone, and retweeted the file with the caption: *”Holy f***ing shit. Tell me this is AI. If this isn’t AI, Disney’s CEO is actually going to jail for antitrust or getting fired by morning.”*

It wasn’t AI.

The audio was crisp, high-fidelity, and unmistakably real. It was a direct rip from the digital conference bridge.

The internet heard Lyle Prescott’s smooth, arrogant corporate voice threatening the theater chains. They heard Orson Croft trying to play the velvet hammer.

And then, they heard Terry Kowalski.

Terry’s raspy, cigarette-stained laugh echoed out of millions of smartphone speakers across the globe. The CEO of AMC didn’t just reject Disney’s ultimatum to pull Treasure Planet from IMAX screens; he publicly, verbally emasculated the most powerful executive in Hollywood.

When Terry yelled, ”If you force me to choose between Walt Disney Studios and Miller Studios today... I will hand every screen I own to Daniel Miller for the next five years,” the internet basically stopped functioning.

By 2:00 AM, the audio had been ripped from Twitter and posted to Reddit, YouTube, and TikTok. It was spreading faster than a localized virus. By the time the sun came up on the East Coast, the hashtag `#DisneyIsOverParty` was the number one trending topic globally, right above `#TerryKowalski` and `#MillerStudios`.

The reaction on Twitter was a beautiful, chaotic, unhinged mess of human nature.

`@FilmBro_99`: BRO IM SCREAMING 😭😭😭 TERRY KOWALSKI JUST TOLD THE CEO OF DISNEY TO EAT SHIT ON A RECORDED LINE. HES THE GOAT. HANG HIS JERSEY IN THE RAFTERS.

`@AMC_Ape_King`: we stan terry in this house. dude basically just said pull up then. disney really thought they could bully theaters into dropping treasure planet just cuz their own movies are mid lately lmaooo.

`@CinephileSnob`: Let’s not deify Kowalski here. He’s a CEO protecting his bottom line. If Disney made movies that pulled $150M opening weekends, he’d gladly drop Miller Studios in a heartbeat. It’s not about art, it’s about capitalism. Miller is just a bigger cash cow rn. Still, watching Disney’s monopoly tactics blow up in their face is incredibly satisfying.

`@ur_mom_69`: idgac about the economics bro did u hear lyle stutter??? bro was fighting for his life on that call 💀💀💀

`@SarahLovesAnimation`: the fact that disney tried to sabotage treasure planet because they’re scared of daniel miller making better animated movies than them is so pathetic. they literally can’t compete creatively so they tried to cheat.

`@Crypto_God_88`: disney puts puts puts puts puts. opening bell is gonna be a massacre.

`@PopCultureJunkie`: someone check on lyle prescott i think terry literally killed him with that laugh

Over on Reddit, the front page was completely consumed by the leak.

The `r/movies` megathread was moving so fast that users were complaining about their browsers crashing.

User [deleted]: Man, the sheer hubris of Disney. They really tried to strong-arm the theaters in 2034 using tactics from the 90s. They forgot that Daniel Miller hasn’t dropped a bad movie in his entire career. You don’t bite the hand that feeds you, and Daniel Miller is feeding the entire exhibition industry right now.

User TheRealJoker: The funniest part is Dave Henderson chiming in from London with that dry ass British accent just to say ”yeah we hate you too.” Megaplex International didn’t even hesitate.

User FilmStudent22: It just shows how desperate Disney is. Treasure Planet is in its third week and it’s STILL selling out IMAX screens. Disney’s next movie is tracking horribly. They panicked.

User WallStreetChad: Friendly reminder that Miller Studios is entirely privately owned by Daniel Miller. He doesn’t have a board. He doesn’t have shareholders. He just watched a rival CEO commit corporate seppuku on a leaked audio tape and he probably hasn’t even gotten out of bed yet.

By 6:00 AM Pacific Time, the mainstream news networks caught the scent.

Good Morning America—which was ironically owned by Disney’s parent network—had to awkwardly pivot their entertainment segment to address the leak, using heavily edited, sanitized snippets of the audio. But CNBC didn’t hold back. The financial anchors were practically foaming at the mouth.

At 9:30 AM Eastern Time, the opening bell rang on the New York Stock Exchange.

It was a bloodbath.

Disney’s stock ($DIS) opened down six percent. Within the first ten minutes of trading, as institutional algorithms processed the sheer volume of negative sentiment and the threat of fractured theatrical partnerships, the stock plummeted to minus nine percent.

By 10:15 AM, trading of Disney stock had to be temporarily halted due to volatility circuit breakers.

Inside the Team Disney building in Burbank, the atmosphere was akin to a nuclear bunker moments after a direct hit.

Lyle Prescott was sitting in his expansive, pristine office, staring blankly at the red numbers cascading across the Bloomberg terminal on his desk. His phone had not stopped ringing since 4:00 AM.

The board of directors was in full revolt. The major institutional shareholders—the massive hedge funds and retirement portfolios that actually owned the company—were absolutely furious. They didn’t care about movie screen allocations; they cared about stock valuation. And Lyle Prescott’s arrogant, badly calculated attempt to bully a theater chain had just wiped out billions of dollars in market capitalization in a single morning.

Lyle’s administrative assistant knocked timidly and opened the door. ”Mr. Prescott? The Chairman of the Board is on line one. He says it’s... urgent. And legal is asking for a meeting regarding Orson Croft’s severance package.”

Lyle closed his eyes. It was over. He had tried to play hardball with the infrastructure of the industry, and instead of submitting, the infrastructure had simply spat him out.

Three miles away, inside the executive suite of Miller Studios, the mood was entirely different.

Daniel sat behind his large oak desk, holding a glass of iced tea, the condensation dripping slowly onto a leather coaster. He was wearing a dark, comfortable henley shirt and jeans, looking the exact opposite of a panicked corporate executive.

The massive flat-screen TV mounted on the wall of his office was tuned to CNBC on mute.

The ticker at the bottom of the screen was flashing bright red. DISNEY SHARES PLUMMET 14% AMIDST LEAKED AUDIO SCANDAL. SHAREHOLDERS CALL FOR CEO LYLE PRESCOTT TO RESIGN.

Daniel watched the red line on the graph dive off a cliff. He took a sip of his tea, a calm, deeply satisfied smile playing across his face.

He didn’t leak the tape. He hadn’t asked Terry or Dave or Rick to do it. He didn’t have to. When you create enough value for the people around you, they protect you on instinct. Terry Kowalski had leaked it—or had one of his deputies leak it—purely to humiliate Lyle for having the audacity to threaten AMC’s bottom line.

Marcus walked into the office, holding his iPad, shaking his head in disbelief.

”I’ve never seen anything like it,” Marcus said, leaning against the doorframe. ”It’s a total freefall. The trades are reporting that Disney’s board is convening an emergency session this afternoon. Lyle is going to be out by the weekend. They’re going to throw him to the wolves to try and appease the shareholders.”

”Lyle got greedy,” Daniel said simply, his eyes never leaving the television screen. ”He tried to leverage power he didn’t actually have. He forgot that the theaters don’t work for him.”

”Well, they certainly work for you,” Marcus chuckled. ”Terry called my office again this morning. Left a voicemail just to make sure we were ’enjoying the show.’ The man is a menace.”

”Send Terry a very expensive bottle of scotch,” Daniel said, setting his glass down. ”The good stuff. Tell him it’s a personal thank you from me.”

”Already done,” Marcus smiled. ”I’ll let you get back to watching the carnage.”

Marcus stepped out, closing the door behind him.

Daniel turned his chair away from the television, looking out the massive window overlooking his studio lot. The sun was bright, reflecting off the roofs of the massive soundstages.

He had built all of this from nothing. He had dragged Miller Studios from a cramped, rented apartment into a multi-billion-dollar juggernaut. He controlled his own IP. He didn’t have to answer to panicked shareholders. He didn’t have to explain his creative choices to a board of directors who only cared about quarterly margins. He was a self-funded, money-printing machine.

But as he looked at the massive footprint of his studio, his mind started moving three steps ahead, playing a much larger game.

Miller Studios lacked absolutely nothing in terms of creative output. They had the best rendering farms, the best soundstages, the best talent, and the absolute best box office returns.

But there was one thing Daniel couldn’t build overnight, no matter how many billions of dollars his movies grossed.

Infrastructure.

The legacy ”Big Six” studios—like Warner Bros, Universal, and Disney—had spent the last century buying up hundreds of acres of prime international real estate. They had built physical, sprawling empires. They owned massive global distribution networks, legacy licensing pipelines, and most importantly, they owned theme parks.

Daniel had always harbored a quiet ambition to buy one of the Big Six. He didn’t want to destroy the legacy of cinema; he wanted to own it. He wanted the parks. He wanted the physical footprint that turned a studio into an inescapable global lifestyle brand.

And the absolute truth was, Daniel had the capital to do it.

The public thought Daniel was rich because his movies made billions at the box office. They didn’t know the half of it. Over the last decade, Daniel had accumulated a staggering amount of wealth, not just from theatrical returns, but from the massive, untracked money vouchers he had saved up from the System. He had vouchers sitting in his inventory that could liquidate into cold, untraceable cash in seconds. Combined with his actual corporate liquidity, he possessed enough personal capital to buy a small country outright.

He had never lacked the money. He had simply lacked the excuse.

Hostile takeovers in Hollywood were messy, drawn-out affairs that usually required massive leverage and a vulnerable target. You couldn’t just walk up and buy Disney when they were flying high; the shareholders would demand a premium so astronomical it would be a bad investment.

But now?

Daniel looked back at the muted television. The red ticker was still dropping. The stock was hemorrhaging value. The board was in a panic. The leadership was fractured.

Although Daniel wasn’t the type of man to actively go out of his way to destroy someone for the fun of it, he certainly wasn’t a saint. Disney had tried to scheme behind his back. They had tried to cut off the air supply to his animation team just because they were scared of a little competition.

If they wanted to dig their own grave, Daniel was more than happy to sit back, drink his iced tea, and wait for them to finish digging. When the stock hit rock bottom, when the board was desperate for a savior to inject capital and restore faith with the theater chains... he would be waiting.

He didn’t need to attack them. He just needed to be patient.

Daniel picked up his TV remote and clicked the screen off. The red numbers vanished, leaving a black reflection of his own office.

He didn’t want to think about corporate warfare anymore today. He wanted to think about movies.

He opened his laptop, brought up his browser, and clicked over to Twitter. He ignored the trending hashtags about Lyle Prescott and typed Treasure Planet into the search bar.

It was the third week of the theatrical run, a time when most movies usually experienced a steep sixty-percent drop in attendance as the initial hype wore off. Treasure Planet had only dropped twenty-two percent. It had incredible legs.

The search results populated instantly.

Daniel scrolled through the feed, a genuine, warm smile replacing the cold, calculating look he’d had a moment ago.

The sheer volume of fan art was staggering.

There were digital paintings of Jim Hawkins riding the solar surfer through neon-lit nebulas. There were incredibly detailed pencil sketches of John Silver, capturing the terrifying weight of his mechanical arm and the sorrow in his eye. There were cosplayers who had already built fully functional, glowing mechanical arms out of foam and LED lights, posing in front of movie theater standees.

He saw a thread from an independent animator breaking down the exact lighting nodes Maya had used to create the harsh, cyan rim-light effect on Silver’s coat.

User Pixel_Pusher: The absolute genius of Miller Studios is that they didn’t try to hide the 3D. They leaned into it. They used the jagged 12fps character models to make it look like a stop-motion comic book. It’s a love letter to the medium. I haven’t been this inspired to open Blender in five years.

Daniel liked the tweet.

He scrolled down further. Amidst the fan art and the technical breakdowns, there was a constant, underlying hum of speculation.

`@MovieNerd_LA`: Okay, so Hulk was a masterpiece. Treasure Planet is a masterpiece. Harry Potter 2 is in post-production with Spielberg. What the hell is Daniel Miller actually directing next? He can’t just be sitting around.

`@PopCultureQueen`: literally been wondering the same thing. he hasn’t announced a personal directing project since Shutter Island. i need to know what’s cooking in that beautiful brain of his.

`@CinemaFreak88`: If it’s not The Avengers, I’m gonna riot. The post-credits scene for Hulk practically confirmed it. Just give us the team-up already!

Daniel chuckled softly, reading the comments. They were hungry. The audience trusted him implicitly now, and they were desperate to see where he would take them next.

He pushed his laptop back slightly, making room on his desk.

Resting in the center of the leather blotter was a thick, heavy binder. The cover was blank, made of premium black leather, fastened with brass brads.

He reached out, resting his hand flat on top of it. He tapped his index finger against the leather, a slow, rhythmic beat.

It was a finished script.

He had spent the last two months quietly writing it, usually late at night in the Bel Air estate while Florence and Margot were asleep, or during the quiet hours of the morning before the studio woke up.

It wasn’t The Avengers. That was a logistical mountain that Tom and the casting department were still assembling, dealing with the schedules of half a dozen A-listers.

This was something different.

This was the next step.

Daniel felt the familiar, addictive surge of adrenaline that always accompanied a locked script. The blank page was conquered. The story was down on paper. The characters had voices, the set pieces were mapped out, and the pacing was tight.

He didn’t need to worry about Disney’s collapsing stock, or the theater chains begging for his favor, or the media calling him the king of Hollywood. All of that was just noise.

This binder was the only thing that actually mattered.

Daniel smiled, running his hand over the smooth leather cover. The internet could speculate all they wanted. The trades could write a hundred articles trying to guess his next move.

He picked up his phone, dialed Tom’s extension, and waited for his partner to pick up.

”Yeah, Dan?” Tom’s voice came through, sounding slightly distracted by the ongoing Disney drama.

”Hey,” Daniel said quietly. ”Call the department heads. Tell them to clear their schedules for tomorrow morning. I need the production designers, the location scouts, and the casting directors in the main conference room at nine.”

There was a brief pause on the other end of the line. The distraction in Tom’s voice vanished instantly, replaced by a sharp, professional focus.

”You finished it,” Tom stated.

”Yep,” Daniel confirmed, looking down at the binder.

”I’ll make the calls,” Tom said, his voice buzzing with anticipation. ”See you in the morning, boss.”

Daniel hung up the phone. He stood up from his desk, grabbed his iced tea, and walked toward the door.

The trap was set for Disney, the animation world was forever changed, and the money was flowing in faster than he could spend it. But the machine never stopped.
