I Married the President

Chapter 583: Chapter 583: My Family Owns a Mine

Theo Rhodes said, a hint of impatience in his voice, ”Come back when you have proof we did anything. I’m not so desperate that I’d sleep with a client. If my Master found out, I’d be in huge trouble.”

At his words, Joan Jacobs’s face paled. She opened her mouth to speak but couldn’t find the right words.

After a long moment of silence, she finally spat, ”Proof, is it? Fine! I’m going to the hospital right now. You just wait!”

’As long as I can prove he and I slept together, I can use the opportunity to blackmail him for a good chunk of money. Then I’ll just insist that he raped me. No one knows what really happened that night, so they’ll believe whatever I say. Once that happens... this damn bastard who used me and tossed me aside... he still wants to be a reporter?’

’Heh... In his dreams.’

’As for all the dirt I gave him last night, it looks like he doesn’t remember a thing. Nothing to worry about.’

And with that, Joan Jacobs left, a look of triumph on her face.

Theo Rhodes watched her disappear at the end of the hall before walking to the adjacent room and ringing the doorbell.

A moment later, the door opened.

As soon as he was inside, Theo spoke. ”Master, Joan Jacobs was just here demanding I acknowledge our ’relationship.’ I sent her packing.”

Claire Sinclair looked up to meet his gaze. ”You need to be more careful in the future. Don’t compromise your principles.”

Theo Rhodes scratched his head. ”Master, the only reason I dared to be alone in a room with a woman like her is because I trust you, Bro Winston, and the team. I’m still a virgin, you know. I’m saving myself for the woman I love. I’m still waiting for my Snow White.”

Claire Sinclair rolled her eyes at him. ”And you’re Prince Charming?”

”Of course I am,” Theo Rhodes admitted readily.

”And I suppose your family is loaded?”

”My dad’s the chairman of Rhodes Apex Group. You didn’t know?”

’The chairman of Rhodes Apex Group, Gideon Rhodes...’

’The world’s largest construction company. A Fortune 500 corporation with a solid, century-old foundation. Their family is a household name in Aridia.’

’This kid... is actually Gideon Rhodes’s publicly unacknowledged only son?’

”If your family is that loaded, why on earth would you want to be a reporter?”

”It’s my dream to be a reporter.”

”...”

”Master, please don’t look down on me just because I’m some rich kid. I will surpass you and become the youngest, most accomplished ’Great Reporter Rhodes’ in history.”

Claire Sinclair nodded in acknowledgment. ”Go for it, kid.”

Theo Rhodes smiled and brought the conversation back on track. ”So, Master, what’s on the agenda for today?”

”Three cars entered and exited Xenogen Pharmacy last night. I’ve already got people running checks on them. I’ve also sent people to discreetly investigate St. Nina’s Private Hospital. Once we have irrefutable evidence, someone else will take over the next steps. Then, we can write our story.”

”So, we just wait for the results now?”

Claire Sinclair nodded. Then, a thought occurred to her. ”How exactly did you get rid of Joan Jacobs earlier?”

”I told her to find proof that we slept together. She’s probably at a hospital right now.”

”This is a woman who betrayed Cyrus Marshall for money. She won’t hesitate to come after you. You should head back for now.”

Theo looked confused. ”Back where?”

”Back to Aethelgard. Don’t let Joan Jacobs find you. If she manages to pin something on you, or worse, gets humiliated and hires people to come after you, you’ll be in real danger.”

But Theo, with the classic fearlessness of youth, was undaunted. ”I’m not scared, Master. Besides, with you here, I have even less reason to be.”

Claire retorted irritably, ”It’s good to be brave, but don’t be an idiot. Think for yourself. What kind of trouble could you run into by staying here? How would that affect the entire operation’s progress? Stop thinking only about yourself and consider the bigger picture.”
