I Married the President

Chapter 562: Chapter 562: Must Be More Composed Than Ordinary People

After hearing them vent, Claire Sinclair felt uneasy. She said in a low voice, ”It’s hard to give advice in situations like this, but I’ll try talking to my own family. Thank you.”

With that, she turned to Theo Rhodes. ”Theo, weren’t you looking for something for your sore throat? They should have it here.”

Theo Rhodes took the hint and nodded. ”Ah, I almost forgot. My throat’s been a little itchy and sore.”

A nurse immediately fetched a box of sore throat medicine, and Claire Sinclair paid for it along with her other items.

Just as the two of them were preparing to leave, a nurse suddenly exclaimed, ”Hey, I remember now! Aren’t you that really famous reporter, Claire Sinclair?”

”That’s it! I knew you looked familiar! You’re Young Master Quincy’s girlfriend, right?”

”Reporter Sinclair, are you really her?”

All the nurses in the shop, along with the manager, excitedly crowded around them.

Claire Sinclair smiled sheepishly. ”Yes, I’m Claire Sinclair.”

Several people immediately started talking over one another. ”Reporter Sinclair, you’re with the Astoria Daily! Please, do something about that Miracle Health Clinic! They’ve hurt so many people!”

”That’s right! If even the Astoria Daily won’t touch this, then no one will dare to go after them.”

”Reporter Sinclair, we’re begging you, you have to help!”

Claire Sinclair quickly tried to placate them. ”Please, everyone, calm down. I only came to City E to report on the watermelon competition. We didn’t know anything about this Miracle Health Clinic, and I haven’t been assigned the story. If my superiors give me the assignment, I will definitely investigate.”

Hearing her brush them off, the nurses all looked disappointed. No one said another word.

Claire Sinclair added, ”I’m sorry, but I have to get going.”

With that, she hurried away.

The moment the pair was gone, the nurses began to complain, holding nothing back.

”She has such a great reputation online. I really thought she was some kind of champion for justice. But she won’t even touch a story like this. Figures she only got famous through media hype.”

”Yeah. If Claire Sinclair actually investigated this, all her boyfriend Young Master Quincy would have to do is say the word, and the Miracle Health Clinic would be finished. Shut down, just like that.”

”Come on. She said she ’wasn’t assigned.’ For all we know, she took money to promote the Miracle Health Clinic. Heh... And ’here to report on a watermelon competition’? Who gives a damn about some stupid competition like that?”

”Sigh... There’s no justice in the world. Why don’t the wicked ever face retribution?”

...

Claire Sinclair and Theo Rhodes hadn’t gotten far; they could still hear the nurses’ complaints from the entrance.

Theo Rhodes said indignantly, ”How can they switch up like that so fast? And say such awful things.”

Claire Sinclair’s expression was calm as she said, ”Reporters have to be more composed than the average person. It doesn’t matter what anyone says about us. Our only job is to report the facts. That’s our duty.”

”Mentor, doesn’t it bother you when they talk about you like that?”

”Is it the first time people have said things about me?” Claire Sinclair retorted.

Theo Rhodes was speechless.

Before he had returned to the country, he’d seen rumors about his mentor online. But with his journalism background, he naturally didn’t put much stock in internet gossip.

Now, after spending two days with her, he was almost certain that the things said about her online were completely false.

The accusations of being a glory hound or using her power to bully others—it was all fake. His mentor was definitely not some shallow fraud.

By the time they returned to the hotel, it was just after five in the evening.

The investigator Landon Winston had sent out had returned and was now awaiting orders.

Claire Sinclair called Theo Rhodes into the room with her before having the investigator report his findings on the Miracle Pharmaceuticals Plant.
