Caught in Affairs with Superstar

Chapter 1670: Chapter 822: Another Year (10,000-Word Update!)_2

Zhou Lan said, ”Xiao Chu, when it comes to acting, there’s no rush. Take it one show at a time, perform well, be diligent, and gradually improve. There will be a day when you shine brightly. Not every actor makes a sensational debut. We acknowledge we’re lucky, but we also insist on working hard, and then we leave the rest to time.”

”Mm.” Yuk Chu nodded, ”I actually consider myself very lucky already, I got it.”

”As for you, compared to Xiao Jing, your advantage is your high national and popular recognition. Over the past two years, you’ve been in so many shows, and you’re a familiar face that everyone knows in the market. Capital, as well as platforms, recognize you, but you still lack a bit in leading a show by yourself. In everyone’s eyes, relying solely on yourself to lead a show is still a bit lacking. So typically, main heroine scripts don’t come your way. However, for an artist to truly grow, they must be able to carry a show on their own and make the audience watch the show solely because of you. We’ll need to work harder in that direction,” Zhou Lan said. ”The shows you filmed before are basically all aired, with nothing in reserve. Have you decided on which upcoming shows to take on?”

Yuk Chu said, ”I’ll take them all.”

”Take them all?” Zhou Lan was shocked, ”How can you handle it all?”

”I can. As long as they’re not scheduled for the same period, take them all for me. If I can’t compete on quality, I’ll compete on quantity first,” Yuk Chu said. ”Now my parents are helping me with the kids, they basically follow me around, so I have no worries at home. If I don’t work hard now, should I wait until I’m no longer competitive? I also believe that hard work can make up for shortcomings. If my acting isn’t good, then I’ll just practice more.”

Zhou Lan took a deep breath.

”Biting off more than you can chew, acting at such a fast pace may not necessarily improve your acting skills.”

”Sister Lan, if I were the type who could portray a role well just by pondering it for a long time, I wouldn’t be taking the ’sea of questions’ route,” Yuk Chu said sincerely. ”I’ve pondered seriously, but what I came up with was not the real deal. I’d rather join a crew and accumulate real experience, with a reliable director to guide my direction, I can progress faster.”

Yuk Chu’s words made Zhou Lan reflect. She wondered if she was stuck in a certain fixed pattern, believing there was only one way for an actor to hone their skills. Zhou Yun’s process of preparing for a role had unconsciously influenced Zhou Lan’s perception of acting. She instinctively compared everything to Zhou Yun, thinking behaviors similar to Zhou Yun’s were right, and those differing were wrong. This was incorrect.

Zhou Lan realized her own issue.

”But you still need to take a breather and not overwork yourself,” Zhou Lan said. ”There must be a month’s break between each show unless in special circumstances, Xiao Chu, I won’t allow you to argue about this with me. You’re a person, not a machine. Acting can be exhausting and requires rest.”

Yuk Chu laughed helplessly.

”Alright.”

”Yuehai wants to develop a spin-off from your role in ’Deep Sea.’ What do you think?” Zhou Lan asked.

Yuk Chu pondered for a moment, shook her head, and said, ”Sister Lan, like you said, I can’t lead a show on my own right now. If I star alone in a spin-off, and it does much worse than ’Deep Sea,’ it would ruin the ’Deep Sea’ IP for no reason. If they want to make a spin-off, that’s fine. The key is to do it well, not just to ride on ’Deep Sea’s’ popularity to make money.”

Zhou Lan: ”Okay, then I’ll turn them down. Oh, there’s another thing. They’re developing a new show ’Flower City,’ with Xiao Yun as the lead. There’s an important role they want you to play. The original work won an award, and the script is good. Although the filming start date isn’t set, I plan to accept it for you.”

Yuk Chu nodded, agreed.

”Thanks to you, bringing Lu Zhongting and Huang Zicheng on board for several shows. What do you think, should we sign another newcomer? Our studio hasn’t signed an artist who’s entirely ours yet. But then the studio’s actor lineup is mainly young people, all competing with each other. Bringing someone new in would affect the resource distribution for others.”
