Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 2499: Chapter 2500: Who Will Kill Whom

As soon as his leg recovered, Jiang Yichun immediately completed what was left unfinished that night, putting extra effort into handling his wife, thinking she was secretly mocking him. Did she really think he couldn’t notice?

The next morning, Bai Ruozhu got up with a sore back, pulling a long face and ignoring Jiang Yichun. Yichun, knowing he might have gone overboard, hurriedly served her tea and water to appease her, which finally improved Bai Ruozhu’s mood.

After breakfast, everyone felt more at ease knowing Jiang Yichun was no longer poisoned.

”Miss Miaoluo, please stay. Empress Shangzi is no longer staying here. If you wish to visit her, I can arrange for someone to take you.” Da Gu’s voice came from outside the yard. Bai Ruozhu, who was about to leave the yard for a walk, happened to hear the commotion.

”What? Why isn’t the Empress residing in Linzhi Palace anymore?” Miaoluo’s voice was filled with shock and concern.

Da Gu quickly realized and explained, ”I apologize for not making it clear. The second prince and his entourage needed a change, so the Empress found Linzhi Palace convenient and offered it to the prince and the Zhongyuan envoys.”

Miaoluo breathed a sigh of relief, ”I misunderstood. It’s okay then.”

Bai Ruozhu had already opened the gate and smiled as she greeted her, ”Miss Miaoluo, we meet again.”

Miaoluo hurriedly bowed to Bai Ruozhu, ”Master Bai, I apologize for disturbing you.”

”Not at all. We haven’t even thanked Empress Shangzi yet for letting us stay here. Let’s visit her together,” Bai Ruozhu said with a smile.

”Great, I was worried about being bored alone.” Miaoluo also smiled and warmly hooked her arm around Bai Ruozhu’s, acting very familiar and friendly. Bai Ruozhu couldn’t help but glance at her again before quickly looking away.

The two, arm in arm, followed a guard leading the way. Before long, they arrived at Empress Shangzi’s new residence.

Bai Ruozhu glanced around; the place was a small yard, clearly not befitting Empress Shangzi’s status in the Fusang Imperial Palace. It seemed a bit unfair to her.

They announced their arrival and were promptly led inside by a maid, where they saw Empress Shangzi arranging flowers in the hall. Upon seeing them, she smiled, ”Why are you both here? Come, come, I was just making some nail dye. I’ll do your nails too.”

Miaoluo stepped forward with a smile and bowed, ”Your Majesty, I came to visit you and happened to meet Master Bai, so we came together.”

Bai Ruozhu also bowed, ”Ruozhu thanks Your Majesty for the yard; the second prince is much safer now.”

Empress Shangzi put down the flowers and helped Bai Ruozhu up, ”No need for such formality. Sit down and let’s chat.”

Bai Ruozhu and Miaoluo sat down one after the other, and Empress Shangzi had tea served, then asked, ”How is Minister Jiang’s condition?”

”He’s recovered. A few days of rest and he’ll be fine,” Bai Ruozhu replied.

”That’s good. The Emperor feels very remorseful about the incident, and they’ve already sent people to capture the Tudun Clan,” said Empress Shangzi.

Miaoluo looked shocked, ”Isn’t the Tudun Clan only serving the Emperors? Have they betrayed His Majesty?”

”You don’t know. A few days ago, assassins infiltrated the palace intending to kill the second prince, even digging a tunnel under his bed,” said Empress Shangzi, visibly angry. ”If it weren’t for Master Bai and the others risking their lives, the second prince might have been...”

Miaoluo covered her mouth, ”They actually dug a tunnel from outside the palace? That must have been a huge undertaking.”

Empress Shangzi sighed and waved her hand, ”Let’s forget it. You’re here now; let’s enjoy some tea and dimsum, and paint our nails. Don’t let those worries bother us.”

Bai Ruozhu looked at the nail dye that Empress Shangzi mentioned. It was just crushed Fen Xianhua.

In her past life as a child in the countryside, she used Fen Xianhua to dye her nails but got scolded by her grandpa, who said it interfered with herb collecting.

Back then, she felt wronged. Now, she realized the dyed color wasn’t really that nice.

”Has Master Bai dyed her nails before? Would it interfere with your work?” Empress Shangzi asked considerately.

Bai Ruozhu waved her hand with a smile, ”I’ll pass. I still have to prepare formulas and collect herbs, so I won’t dye them.”

Empress Shangzi didn’t insist and called a maid to help with her and Miaoluo’s nails.

The maid applied the finely mixed flower paste on their nails and covered them with metal nail covers.

Bai Ruozhu glanced at the delicate nail covers, much better than the leaf wraps she used as a child.

Soon, both had their nails done. The covers didn’t hinder their tea drinking or dimsum eating, adding a hint of allure with their length.

Bai Ruozhu sat for half an hour before taking her leave, and Empress Shangzi and Miaoluo personally escorted her to the gate.

Unexpectedly, on her way back to Linzhi Palace, Bai Ruozhu encountered She Zongyi.

”Mr. She, you frequent the Palace more than some officials. You wouldn’t be planning to visit the second prince again, would you?” Bai Ruozhu’s tone wasn’t exactly polite.

She Zongyi wasn’t offended, maintaining his scholarly demeanor, ”Master Bai jests. Instead of watching me, you’d better mind your companions. You might not be so lucky next time.”

This was a blatant threat!

Bai Ruozhu narrowed her eyes, ”Mr. She should watch himself. You might run out of luck right now!”

As she spoke, Bai Ruozhu’s fingers twitched slightly, and Xiaomao was already prepared. If She Zongyi dared to attack, she’d have Xiaomao kill him, even if it meant killing and discarding the body!

She Zongyi’s expression quickly changed, ”I didn’t expect Master Bai to be so impulsive.”

”I can’t stand being threatened. Those who’ve dared to threaten me are mostly no longer in this world.” Bai Ruozhu’s lips curled slightly as her gaze turned murderous. She Zongyi, leading pirates in high seas, was already unforgivable, and he had repeatedly targeted her people. Now, he dared to threaten her. This was intolerable.

She Zongyi dropped his refined facade, his face twisted menacingly, ”You think I’ve no means against your little poison? If you don’t want to die, then get lost!”

Bai Ruozhu laughed instead, ”I want to see how you plan to kill me. You have points to exchange for antidotes, but points are finite. Let’s see if I have more poison, or you have more points!”

With that, she had no more qualms, raising her hand to throw a handful of drug powder.

She Zongyi’s eyes filled with malice. He swiftly retreated as several hidden blades flew at Bai Ruozhu, not from one direction, but from all around, making them hard to guard against.

Yet Bai Ruozhu remained unflustered. She quickly formed a mudra with her hand; her essence transformed into a defensive cover. The flying blades collided with it, only to be deflected with a series of clangs.

She Zongyi gritted his teeth, suddenly pointing a finger directed at Bai Ruozhu’s forehead. Bai Ruozhu’s heart rang an alarm; he was targeting her forehead for a Divine Sense attack!
