Chapter 2470: Chapter 2471: Fright Night in the Rain

”Last night, I sneaked into Lihua’s room, woke her up, and gave her some medicine. She mumbled that the Empress got it from a young man, and that the Empress and the young man were fond of each other. Unfortunately, the Empress had to marry into the Imperial family. They wanted to elope, but missed the chance because the Empress fell seriously ill before marriage,” Jianqi said.

”Who is the man?” Bai Ruozhu asked with interest.

Jianqi shook his head, ”Lihua claims she doesn’t know. The Empress never took her along when meeting the man secretly, and she never mentioned the bracelet to her. It was only when the Empress carelessly mentioned it that Lihua found out. At that time, she didn’t understand why the Empress would give the bracelet, a gift from her beloved, to Empress Shangzi. Many years later, Lihua started to guess the problem but always feared being implicated and was very scared about it.”

Bai Ruozhu touched her chin and excitedly looked at Jiang Yichun, ”Achun, do you think the Crown Prince might not be the Empress’s child with an outsider? I always feel the Emperor seems to prefer the second prince. Aren’t people supposed to dote on the eldest son more? In any case, the one we love the most is Little Dengdeng, right?”

Jiang Yichun nodded with a smile, and at the mention of Little Dengdeng, his facial lines softened.

”You mean the Emperor knows but hasn’t exposed it?” Jiang Yichun slightly shook his head, ”Even if the Emperor is a good person, he wouldn’t agree to mix the Imperial family’s bloodline. The Fusang people value the royal bloodline, claiming it is the descendant of the gods.”

”That’s true. Otherwise, they wouldn’t insist on marrying within the family to maintain the bloodline,” Bai Ruozhu pouted slightly and looked at Jianqi again, ”Are there any other clues?”

”Lihua also mentioned that when the Empress was young, she was filled with illusions about love and couldn’t help but talk about that man. She said he was the wisest person in the world, always having many novel ideas, and said that if he had entered the court as an officer, he would surely benefit the people. Unfortunately, he couldn’t enter the court. That’s all,” Jianqi continued.

Bai Ruozhu tapped her slender fingers on the table while quickly processing Jianqi’s words in her mind.

After a while, she looked up and said, ”You go and rest first, quickly check on Yizi, she’s very worried.”

Jianqi’s face turned slightly bashful, ”Yes, I will take my leave.”

As the door closed, Bai Ruozhu pondered with her chin resting on her hand, ”Achun, what kind of person in Fusang is full of talent but can’t become an officer?”

”An entertainer?” Jiang Yichun shook his head, ”Forget it, don’t think about it, rest early. We can ask Sa Tian tomorrow and we’ll find out.”

The two lay down in bed, Jiang Yichun gently wrapped his arm around Bai Ruozhu’s waist, hearing her let out a slight sigh.

”What’s the matter?” He asked.

”Nothing.” In reality, she missed the child, but didn’t want to say it, fearing that Achun would blame himself again.

”Then rest quickly.” He tightened his arm around her, feeling somewhat bitter inside. He knew she missed the child, but she never mentioned it, fearing to upset him. He truly didn’t know when his troubles would turn for the better.

In the middle of the night, a sudden strong wind began to blow outside, and soon raindrops battered the window, awakening Bai Ruozhu instantly.

She quickly got up, threw on some clothes, and ran outside. Jiang Yichun was awakened by the noise, and before he could call after her, she had already dashed into the pouring rain.

He hurriedly got up and swiftly put on his outerwear. As he was about to step out, he was shocked by the water on the floor and stepped back.

Luckily, there were Fusang people’s raincoats and gear under a nearby eave. Jiang Yichun quickly donned a raincoat, grabbed an umbrella, and chased after Bai Ruozhu in the direction she had left.

She must have gone to the second prince’s room. Jiang Yichun hurried over and found that the second prince’s hall’s door was wide open, with candlelight inside. She was indeed there.

”He...” Jiang Yichun began to speak, but his words stuck in his throat because he saw Bai Ruozhu stripping the second prince’s clothes and was about to put the naked prince into the Medicine Barrel.

This, this was simply...

His fury flared up instantly, and he rushed into the room.

”Why didn’t you call me for help, aren’t you aware of the differences between genders?” Jiang Yichun’s anger was laced with a tone of questioning and reprimand, startling Bai Ruozhu so much that her hand paused for a moment.

But soon she resumed her actions, speaking in a cold tone, ”I’ll explain later, I need to save him first.”

This made Jiang Yichun even more furious. What kind of attitude was this!

But looking at Bai Ruozhu, he knew the situation was urgent, and he had to forcibly suppress his anger. Yet, despite this, he had nowhere to vent his rage and wanted to snap the room’s pillars in half.

Bai Ruozhu dared not have any distraction because she had been careful all this time but had miscalculated here. Had she not been alert, hearing the rain and worrying about the interplay of the poison and dampness, making the poisoned person suffer greatly, she would not have come to check. Otherwise, by morning, the second prince would undoubtedly be dead!

When she arrived, she saw a leak in the roof above the Main Hall, allowing rainwater to seep in and fall directly on the second prince. Truly, the mechanics were calculated down to the weather.

But don’t underestimate that little bit of rainwater. With just a bit of something mixed in, the second prince would be done for.

But since the second prince’s skin was already touched, Bai Ruozhu couldn’t just wait it out. She immediately thought of ways to save him, directly filling the bath barrel with Hot Spring from the Space, adding Medicine Liquid prepared for emergencies, then stripped off the prince’s clothes and placed him inside.

Who would have thought Achun would follow her here? She knew it wasn’t that she couldn’t explain, but that Achun would be displeased with it.

But she had no time to consider too much, as she couldn’t afford even a moment’s distraction, or the second prince would actually die at her hands.

One by one, silver needles pierced in, almost turning the second prince into a porcupine. Then she took incense made from special Herbal Medicine, lit it over the prince’s various acupuncture points, gradually forcing the toxins to his left hand.

At this moment, the second prince’s eyes were tightly shut, his breathing became increasingly faint, seemingly close to the end.

Bai Ruozhu also grew increasingly tense, hurriedly shouting to Jiang Yichun, who was still sulking beside her, ”Quickly call your father to help, or we won’t be able to save him!”

Jiang Yichun’s expression changed several times, seeming somewhat hesitant, but still, he rushed out of the Main Hall to Gao Zhou’s room.

Soon, Gao Zhou hurried over, soaked through by the heavy rain outside since he didn’t have the time to use rain gear, yet he didn’t care in the slightest, asking seriously, ”What should I do?”

”Take the Drug incense and apply it to the Ren Meridian, finish that first,” Bai Ruozhu quickly handed over a lit incense stick.

Without a word, Gao Zhou started applying the smoke, imitating Bai Ruozhu’s movements.

Not until Bai Ruozhu finished with the Ren Meridian did she realize Jiang Yichun hadn’t followed them here, knowing he was truly furious.

She slightly frowned but quickly refocused. She couldn’t afford any slip now; this was a matter of life and death.
