Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 2456: Chapter 2457: Living Up to the Trust

”Lord Bai, I heard you were attacked. Are you alright?” Sa Tian immediately approached Bai Ruozhu upon seeing him and asked.

It seemed that the situation in the market had already spread throughout Kyoto. After all, a large group of ninjas appearing in broad daylight was certainly conspicuous.

”I’m fine, but my three companions were in danger. The other side wanted to capture them alive.” Bai Ruozhu spoke with a stern face, ”I know you want to inquire about Master Puru’s condition, but I don’t have time to discuss it further. I need you to deliver a message to Zhaoti Temple. This journey may be perilous, and you might encounter ninjas or samurais blocking your way. Do you have any way to safely reach Zhaoti Temple?”

Sa Tian was surprised. He recognized the seriousness in Bai Ruozhu’s tone and understood the danger of the task. However, he deemed it his duty, especially since Bai Ruozhu had just helped check on Master Puru and was immediately targeted by ninjas. He couldn’t help but feel guilty. If he could assist, no matter how dangerous, he was willing to do so.

”Alright, I will carefully make my way to Zhaoti Temple. I’m only worried about not being allowed to enter,” Sa Tian said seriously.

”Just tell the guards that I sent you to deliver medicine to Master Puru. Use the name Otani directly; they will know what to do.” Bai Ruozhu paused as he spoke.

She walked to the table in the hall, dipped her finger in some tea, and wrote on the table: ”When you see the Emperor, tell him these four words: Beware of internal betrayal.”

Sa Tian followed her to the table and, upon seeing the words, felt his heart tighten. He wasn’t sure what exactly happened with the death of the second prince, but he knew it was certainly unusual.

He nodded vigorously at Bai Ruozhu, ”I have remembered it.”

Bai Ruozhu was still a bit uneasy and quickly wrote, ”If it’s not someone beside him, then it’s within Zhaoti Temple. Today’s matter might have already been leaked.”

She was fortunate that Fusang was still using Chinese characters at this time, allowing Sa Tian to understand what she wrote; otherwise, it would indeed have been inconvenient.

After Sa Tian finished reading, Bai Ruozhu directly knocked over a cup of tea, allowing the spilled liquid to cover the table.

”Be very careful. If things don’t go as planned, don’t force it. Staying alive is the most important thing.” Bai Ruozhu instructed again.

Sa Tian was a bit moved. It had been a long time since anyone cared about his well-being. Even though General Chisong used him, it was only because of his proficiency in Chinese, and never had anyone shown him this level of concern.

At this time in Fusang, there were many warriors willing to sacrifice their lives for their lords. Sa Tian used to see this as heroic spirit, as his own destined path. However, now that he hadn’t found his brother and hadn’t saved him from danger, how could he willingly die?

Staying alive is the most important thing.

Such a beautiful sentiment, yet it wasn’t something he heard from his lord. At this moment, he was genuinely grateful to this woman from Zhongyuan, grateful that she didn’t belittle his life, grateful that she hoped for his safety.

Sa Tian left with teary eyes, but he didn’t immediately head to Zhaoti Temple. Due to his childhood experiences, he was more sensitive and meticulous than most, so he knew he couldn’t rush and needed to keep calm.

In the evening, a weeping woman appeared in the market, heading in the direction of Zhaoti Temple.

She extended one hand, revealing a large burn on the back, which extended up her arm. Some areas were blistered, while others had opened wounds, making it a horrifying sight.

”What happened to you? Why haven’t you seen a doctor for such an injury?” a kind-hearted mother-in-law asked.

The woman replied with grievance, ”I did see a doctor. He said it would definitely scar unless I seek medicine from the masters at Zhaoti Temple. I heard they obtained a lot of good medicine after a previous fire, and many people who were burned worse than me were fine.”

”Yes, yes, even Master Puru, who was burned more severely, was treated. You should go and ask for help,” the kind mother-in-law said.

The woman continued toward Zhaoti Temple. Those who saw her on the way felt sorry, as it was rare to see such a beauty. How could she find a good husband with scars?

Finally, the woman reached the front gate of Zhaoti Temple, stating directly her request to see Master Puru, only to be stopped by samurais.

The woman’s expression turned serious, and she suddenly spoke in a man’s voice, saying in a low tone, ”I need to see Otani. It’s urgent.”

The guard was startled, looked at his injured hand, and hurried to report. Sure enough, Otani came out shortly.

”You are...” Otani seemed uncertain.

”I am Sa Tian, sent by Lord Bai to deliver medicine to Master Puru. Lord Bai said it is urgent,” Sa Tian, upon seeing Otani, finally exhaled in relief.

Otani recalled the earlier reports of Bai Ruozhu’s companions being attacked, yet Bai had remained unseen. The Emperor had been worried, fearing some mishap. It seemed this person was sent by Bai Ruozhu to deliver a message.

A guard beside him suddenly whispered a reminder, ”Sir, I remember there is a Sa Tian among General Chisong’s subordinates, who seems to help Lord Bai with translation.”

Upon hearing ”General Chisong,” Otani viewed Sa Tian with added caution.

Sa Tian was anxious, his body slightly trembling. Not out of fear, but because his hand injury was becoming increasingly painful, causing him to shake involuntarily.

”Sir, you can inquire. I grew up in Zhaoti Temple and only left to work at General Chisong’s Residence after secularizing. Now that Zhaoti Temple is in trouble, I, Sa Tian, will never stand by idly.” Sa Tian gritted his teeth and said.

Otani, seeing his hand injury, couldn’t help but gasp, ”What happened to your hand?”

”There were ninjas ambushing along the way. I feared I might not make it through, so I had to use this method to lower their guard,” Sa Tian replied with a bitter smile.

Only then did Otani show respect, ”I overthought. Please, come this way.”

Soon, Sa Tian was escorted to the backyard, and after bypassing several encirclements, he finally met the Emperor. Without delay, he conveyed Bai Ruozhu’s message, hearing which, both the Emperor and Otani turned very grim.

”It’s impossible. Isn’t Lord Bai overthinking?” Otani hastily said.

Sa Tian shook his head, ”I don’t know the details, but Lord Bai was safe when she left Zhaoti Temple this morning. Not long after leaving, her companions were attacked, and the assailants aimed to capture those three sirs alive. It must be extraordinary.”

”Did Bai Ruozhu say anything else?” The Emperor sighed, seeming to age a few years instantly.

”No, only advised you to beware of internal betrayal. She probably feared eavesdropping from behind the wall and wrote it with tea on the table, then spilled the water,” Sa Tian replied.

The Emperor sighed heavily, ”I see. You should treat your wounds first. Sorry for the hardship you endured.”

Sa Tian finally showed a smile. He completed his task and felt much more at ease.

”May I go see the abbot first?”

”Of course, get some medicine to use first,” the Emperor said, glancing at Sa Tian’s trembling hand with sympathy.
