Chapter 2459: Chapter 2460: General’s Banquet

A group of people rushed forward to support Sa Tian. Bai Ruozhu pulled up his sleeve, then took a sharp breath.

”How did it get this severe? Are you out of your mind? What kind of self-mutilation is this?” Bai Ruozhu gritted her teeth in anger, but despite her scolding words, her hands moved swiftly, taking out a silver needle to relieve his pain.

Sa Tian smiled without explaining. At that moment, he feared that being too lenient wouldn’t make his disguise convincing enough. Since he had made the decision, he might as well go all out.

But he couldn’t say much, especially not that he did it to ensure they could reach Zhaoti Temple. He was afraid Bai Ruozhu would feel guilty for it.

Yizi was already crying beside him, and Fo Lanying and Wa Wei had tears in their eyes. What was he thinking? Doesn’t he feel the pain?

Sa Tian’s body swayed, sweat dripping from his forehead. He endured the pain with cold sweat streaming, yet still maintained a smile, just to avoid worrying others.

”Didn’t you ask Master Puru for some burn ointment to use first?” Bai Ruozhu was both anxious and angry, but Sa Tian softly replied, ”I forgot.”

Bai Ruozhu sighed, ”You didn’t forget. You were afraid Master Puru would be upset, weren’t you?”

Sa Tian gave a bitter smile, ”You truly are insightful, Bai Da-ren.”

After he finished speaking, his body swayed again. Jiang Yichun quickly supported him and then checked his forehead, looking at Bai Ruozhu. ”He’s got a fever.”

”Bring him inside. With an infection, it’s no wonder he’s got a fever.” Bai Ruozhu’s voice was slightly choked. She never expected Sa Tian would use such a method to complete the mission. While admiring Sa Tian, she also blamed herself. Sa Tian was just a weak scholar, and the task she arranged was too challenging for him!

Jiang Yichun and Qiu Zhi helped Sa Tian towards the room, and Gao Zhou pointed to his room. ”Place him in my room; if anything happens, I can handle it promptly.”

Sa Tian was sent to Gao Zhou’s room, and as soon as he lay on the boat, he could barely keep his eyes open and soon fell asleep.

”What’s wrong with him?” Qiu Zhi asked worriedly.

”Fever makes him drowsy, and he’s also too tired. Letting him sleep a bit would be good.” While Bai Ruozhu spoke, she treated the blisters on his arm, carefully disinfecting and applying medicine. Fortunately, she worked quickly, and within half an hour, she had dealt with the wound.

Then she instructed Wa Wei and Teng Ya to prepare the decoction. By the time it was ready, Sa Tian could wake up and drink it.

”You wouldn’t have guessed, he’s such a refined scholar but can be so ruthless to himself,” Gao Zhou remarked.

Tang Feng sighed, ”It’s said that during this period, Fusang people take their promises very seriously, especially when entrusted by a friend. They’d even risk their lives to fulfill it.”

”I used to look down on them. You all know why we don’t like Fusang people, but for Sa Tian, I retract my prejudice,” Gao Zhou said earnestly.

Bai Ruozhu understood what he meant. The three of them came from modern times, none of them had a fondness for Nihong Country, so they were quite repelled by Fusang. Gao Zhou making such a statement also showed his broad-mindedness.

”Fusang at this time is not the same as Nihong,” Bai Ruozhu reminded.

Tang Feng nodded, ”Indeed, it’s completely different, even the territory is vastly different.”

As they spoke, footsteps were heard outside; the person who went to inform General Chisong had returned.

The guard reported to the Team Leader in Fusang Language, which Bai Ruozhu and the others couldn’t understand. Unfortunately, Sa Tian, the translator, was asleep, and Bai Ruozhu didn’t dare to let Lingzi out to translate, fearing she might be recognized.

Jiang Yichun had to go out to see what they intended to do.

”The General wants us to retrieve the bodies and assign people to investigate. It would help us find out who attacked the envoys,” the Team Leader said in Fusang Language. Bai Ruozhu came outside and guessed the general idea, explaining to Jiang Yichun.

”Let them carry them away. We can’t figure out anything anyway,” Jiang Yichun said.

Soon, the bodies were carried away, but the posthouse couldn’t be restored to its original state. Even the bloody smell lingering in the air couldn’t dissipate quickly.

Bai Ruozhu asked Yuan Licheng to set up the Illusion Array again, fearing another wave of enemies might come. But to avoid accidental injuries, they first shut off the Killing Array.

Everyone was also tired and went back to rest.

In the following two days, Sa Tian drank several doses of medicine, his complexion improved significantly, and the burns on his arm also showed signs of healing. The stabbing pain gradually faded away.

General Chisong sent word that he wanted to host a feast for the envoys from Zhongyuan to apologize for their assassination attempt in Fusang.

Bai Ruozhu was still busy concocting the antidote, so she was somewhat reluctant to attend the feast. But considering the need to help conceal the situation from the Emperor, she had to attend.

Fortunately, General Chisong sent plenty of people to escort them, and they didn’t encounter any more assassins along the way.

This feast, unlike the previous one, did not invite many aristocrats from Kyoto. Instead, only General Chisong, his guests, and confidants were present, making it seem more like a family gathering.

”Everyone, I regret that this incident frightened you. I toast you with a cup of Fusang Wine and promise to strengthen the posthouse’s security, ensuring that such incidents won’t happen again,” General Chisong said, raising his cup warmly.

Bai Ruozhu and the others raised their cups in thanks and drank it down in one go.

As the wine entered her mouth, Bai Ruozhu noticed something different from last time. Although this wine wasn’t as strong as the one they brought from Zhongyuan, it was much more potent than the previous Fusang wine. She hadn’t expected that in just a few days, General Chisong managed to have someone improve the wine. The efficiency was quite impressive.

General Chisong seemed to notice the suspicion in Bai Ruozhu and the others, smiling as he said, ”This is new wine just sent by She Zongyi. Please taste it and offer your opinions.”

Bai Ruozhu and Jiang Yichun exchanged a glance. It was that She Zongyi again!

”Indeed, it’s good wine. She Zongyi is quite a talent, able to brew new wine in just a few days,” Jiang Yichun praised.

”Haha, he became Fusang’s richest merchant thanks to his cleverness,” General Chisong laughed.

Bai Ruozhu detected the underlying meaning in his words. He was saying that She Zongyi, although smart and capable of making money, still had to look up to him, the General, and had to offer him tributes.

She sneered silently. General Chisong was too complacent. He didn’t even know that She Zongyi had created a Black Pirate Ship and dominated the seas. There were likely many more things he was unaware of. She Zongyi’s tributes were merely to lull him into a false sense of security.

”Do you have any thoughts on this assassination? Could you have offended any in Fusang?” General Chisong suddenly asked, changing the subject.

Jiang Yichun replied, ”We are newcomers unfamiliar with the situation in Fusang, and we haven’t had the chance to offend anyone, so we have no clue who the mastermind could be.”

”This time, there were still Shadow Ninja involved. It should be the same group that attempted to assassinate Master Puru at Zhaoti Temple last time,” General Chisong stated.
