Chapter 2471: Chapter 2472: Achun, I’m Sorry (4th Update)

Bai Ruozhu had promised the Emperor that she could save the second prince, and if anything were to happen to him, it might be difficult for them all to get away.

Though not fearing the Emperor, the strong dragon cannot crush the snake in its nest. For them to smoothly find Diao Bin and Ning Yu, the second prince must not die.

Perhaps the atmosphere was too tense, and it was Gao Zhou who spoke first: ”What’s going on here? Why did the problem suddenly occur?”

Bai Ruozhu’s hands kept moving as she looked upward and said, ”I was worried that the heavy rain might cause the poison to act, so I came to check on his condition. Fortunately, I did so; someone tampered with the roof, and rainwater fell on him.”

Gao Zhou was extremely shocked, ”How did they do that? How did they break Xiaoyuan’s barrier? Besides, wouldn’t Xiaoyuan have noticed?”

”I don’t know, but I suspect it was something already in the yard, so it was part of the array and not coming from outside, and Xiaoyuan couldn’t detect it.” Bai Ruozhu frowned, ”Perhaps it was some mechanical device that activated one night and broke a tile on the roof. I was too urgent in saving lives to check it out; I’ll have Jianqi look into it later.”

Gao Zhou hmmed in response, muttering, ”Where is Achun? Isn’t he stuck to you every day? Does he feel useless and not come to get in the way?”

He truly hadn’t noticed Jiang Yichun’s emotions and even laughed: ”If he had learned medicine from me well as a child, he could lend a hand now.”

”Didn’t you also not teach him well?” Bai Ruozhu retorted unhappily.

Gao Zhou chuckled, ”Learning medicine is too harsh, and he wasn’t interested, so why force him?”

Bai Ruozhu didn’t argue with him; after completing the meridian treatment, she put down the incense and began to withdraw the needles from the second prince. By now, the prince’s face had turned grayish-white, resembling a corpse, but fortunately, he still had weak breaths.

She inserted the needles again, and by this time Gao Zhou had finished burning the meridians. The two then divided the labor to continue burning the other eight meridians. Once finished, Bai Ruozhu took a slightly thicker silver needle and pierced the tip of the second prince’s left-hand middle finger.

Drop by drop, black blood fell down, which Bai Ruozhu collected with a small porcelain bottle, keeping it well. This stuff could be used to make poison.

After the black blood dripped sufficiently, the second prince’s face finally returned from the blue-gray of a corpse to a pale semblance; though still looking sickly, he resembled a living person.

Simultaneously, his breathing gradually stabilized.

”Alright, he’s temporarily fine.” Bai Ruozhu collected the needles one by one, raised her hand to wipe the sweat from her forehead, and only then realized that her back was soaked, with her clothes sticking to her skin—truly uncomfortable.

Gao Zhou rubbed his neck, ”Finally, it’s alright; my old bones are all hurting.”

Finding a chair, he slumped into it, muttering, ”Haven’t been this nervous in a long time.”

Bai Ruozhu also found a chair to sit down and rubbed her aching shoulder, saying, ”You hurry and rest, I’ll keep watch.”

”Alright, I won’t be polite with you; time spares no one, my body can’t handle this anymore.” Gao Zhou replied, sneezing several times.

”Quickly change into clean clothes and take some medicine for typhoid,” Bai Ruozhu said apologetically, just noticing Gao Zhou’s clothes were soaked from the rain; wearing wet clothes for so long, no wonder he was catching a cold.

”Got it, got it.” Gao Zhou said, sneezing several more times.

By now, the rain outside had lessened, but it was still pitch dark. Gao Zhou found an umbrella in the hall, opened it, and left.

Bai Ruozhu glared slightly; how could she have forgotten about this!

She knocked her head—she truly was so anxious earlier that she got dizzy, wondering why she asked Achun to find Gao Deng; Achun hesitated, not that he didn’t want to go, but it was pouring outside!

Achun isn’t someone who disregards the weight of things; she hadn’t thought it through.

Thinking of this, she couldn’t sit still. Achun would definitely get wet finding Gao Deng; would he change back into a fish tail?

She wanted to check on Achun, but she didn’t dare move at the moment. Any mistake could mean the second prince couldn’t be saved.

In this moment, Bai Ruozhu found herself in a dilemma. She couldn’t let anyone know Achun’s secret, nor could she let the second prince die. But she couldn’t split herself in two.

Ultimately, she pondered for a moment, then called out to the room not far away, ”Yizi, wake up, come help me!”

Yizi, still in a dream, was roused and groggily went outside, realizing it was raining. Fortunately, the rain had lessened; she found a raincoat and ran towards the main hall.

”You keep watch over the second prince here, make a barrier to prevent the roof from leaking rain onto him. If his breathing changes, call me loudly and stick this onto his chest.” Bai Ruozhu said, handing a disk-shaped ointment to Yizi.

”Alright, master, I’ve remembered.” Seeing Bai Ruozhu’s serious expression, Yizi perked up.

At this moment, Jianqi rushed over as well, awakened by Bai Ruozhu’s loud call.

”What’s wrong, master?” he asked.

”You watch the second prince here with Yizi. Be careful, I’ll explain to you later,” Bai Ruozhu said, then rushed into the rain. Seeing she hadn’t even used a raincoat, Jianqi and Yizi exchanged worried glances but were tasked with watching the prince, so they couldn’t leave.

Bai Ruozhu first headed to Gao Zhou’s room. If Achun had called Gao Zhou and turned back into a fish tail, he would certainly stay in Gao Zhou’s room. He didn’t want others to know, but if his father knew, it was okay.

Unfortunately, she arrived and merely heard Gao Zhou snoring, without anyone else inside; Achun wasn’t there.

Bai Ruozhu grew anxious inside, but didn’t dare call out, fearing waking others who might see Achun’s fish tail. While she glanced around, she suddenly noticed a broad track mark on the ground and quickly stepped over to examine it.

Tears immediately welled in her eyes; the rain had made the ground muddy, and the trail was deep, stretching toward the direction of their room.

This was the trail left by Achun’s fish tail!

She could picture Achun alone in the pouring rain, dragging an unwalkable fish tail, crawling bit by bit, leaving such a long trace on the ground.

She ran toward their room in a frenzy, blaming herself for letting him go out in the heavy rain!

The door was fiercely pushed open, Bai Ruozhu charged inside with rainwater dripping off her, her eyes locking onto the bed where Jiang Yichun stiffened and suddenly pulled the blanket over his legs.

”Achun, I’m sorry!” Bai Ruozhu cried, walking forward step by step, cautiously asking, ”Let me see, okay?”

Jiang Yichun turned his face away, ”There’s nothing to see; you go back to your work.”

Bai Ruozhu’s heart twisted in pain; was he unwilling to face her?
