Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 1978: Chapter 1977: The Strange Black Fruit Tree

Meng’s Old Madam nodded, others might be questionable, but could she not trust Bai Ruozhu handling matters?

Soon, Xu Huilin was called over; his eyes showed some dark circles, looking as though he hadn’t slept well, Bai Ruozhu and Meng’s Old Madam both began to worry.

Was he optimistic in front of others yet mournful in private?

”Huilin...” The Old Madam started to speak but didn’t know how to ask.

Bai Ruozhu didn’t want the atmosphere to become awkward, so she quickly said, ”Senior brother, I’ve just created a new blood replenishing medicine with excellent effects, try it.”

As she spoke, she handed him a red pill. Xu Huilin was captivated by the vivid red color, ”Bai Ruozhu, why is the pill you made so pretty? Is it a young lady’s taste?”

Bai Ruozhu glared at him, ”Will you eat it or not?”

If it weren’t for Meng’s Old Madam being present, she would’ve scolded him for his excessive talking.

Xu Huilin picked it up and suddenly grinned, ”So red, isn’t it made from human blood?”

Meng’s Old Madam’s face changed slightly, scolding, ”You child, can’t you say anything good? Even dried human blood turns brown, how could it remain red?”

Xu Huilin chuckled, ”I was just kidding.”

He didn’t seem to hold any deep grudges.

He reached out and tossed the pill into his mouth. Soon, his expression became solemn, and he sat cross-legged on the ground.

”Ruozhu, what’s happening?” Meng’s Old Madam grew nervous.

”It’s nothing, he feels the medicine is effective and is harnessing Qi to enhance blood circulation.” Bai Ruozhu spoke with a smile on her face, indicating the medicine’s great efficacy; otherwise, Xu Huilin wouldn’t need to meditate to absorb it.

Soon, Xu Huilin opened his eyes and leaped up, ”Ruozhu, what precious medicinal materials did you use, the effect is better than all my nurturing? How should I thank you!”

His complexion was no longer as pale, even the dark circles under his eyes had lightened slightly.

Bai Ruozhu ignored him, reaching out to take his pulse, then nodded and said, ”Not bad, I’ll give you two more, take one every three days, and after finishing them, you’ll be completely well.”

Meng’s Old Madam looked at Ruozhu in surprise, ”So quickly?”

Bai Ruozhu nodded with a smile, ”Yes, otherwise, I wouldn’t specifically research this medicine.”

”Good, good, Ruozhu, thank you so much.” Meng’s Old Madam spoke with tears in her eyes. Initially, she liked this girl, wanting to help her, but now Bai Ruozhu is continually assisting the Meng Family.

Bai Ruozhu still had yellow medicine in hand, originally intended for Meng Jinxia, who had a heart disease difficult to cure, but it could improve her constitution and reduce the risk of flare-ups.

However, she thought it was better to wait a few days; on the one hand, taking out too many unique pills could attract envy, a common saying goes that the innocent with precious items invite trouble. Although she trusted Meng’s Old Madam and Xu Huilin, with so many people in the Meng Family, it might be impossible to prevent rumors from spreading.

On the other hand, the yellow pill hadn’t been tested yet, directly giving it to someone like Meng Jinxia with a frail body, she was not at ease.

Xu Huilin said with a grin, ”Now I feel more energetic than before, I’m going back to continue researching my leg technique.”

”You didn’t rest well last night, because you were practicing leg techniques?” Bai Ruozhu called after him.

”Yes, my father found a leg technique manual for me, it’s incredibly intricate, and I can’t fully grasp it yet.” Xu Huilin spoke naturally, calling ”father” warmly, suggesting his grudge against Meng Liangshen had been resolved.

”Congratulations, but remember, too much is as bad as too little; don’t overexert yourself.” Bai Ruozhu said sternly, ”Otherwise, I won’t make a mechanical arm for you.”

Xu Huilin’s mouth twitched, ”Ruozhu, you were so gentle before, now you’ve learned to threaten people?”

Bai Ruozhu gave him a sidelong glance, ”I was more formidable before, you just didn’t see it.”

Meng’s Old Madam beside them laughed so much her lips couldn’t close, ”Huilin, Ruozhu is right, don’t exhaust yourself.”

”Yes, Grandma, I’ll return to the yard now.” Xu Huilin made a face at Bai Ruozhu and dashed away.

”Look at him, still so childish.” Meng’s Old Madam laughed, soon showing a regretful expression, ”This child has a tough fate.”

Actually, Xu Huilin is still young, a few years younger than Jiang Yichun, though Jiang Yichun apprenticed later, thus calling him senior brother.

He’s only one or two years older than Bai Ruozhu; at this age encountering such severe setbacks and maintaining optimism is already remarkable.

”Now I’m concerned about Huilin’s marriage and Jinxia’s health. I don’t want to hide it from potential suitors; otherwise, she won’t have peaceful days after marrying.” Meng’s Old Madam sighed, seemingly years older than before.

Meng Liangshen has four children, three with troubled fates, how can Meng’s Old Madam be at ease?

Although Xu Huilin is an illegitimate child, he endures the most hardship; the whole Meng Family cherishes him dearly, but they don’t dare express it.

Meng Jinse temporarily dwells with maternal relatives in the Capital, per Meng’s Old Madam’s intent, hoping she’d find a good family, yet unexpectedly she was abducted by King Rui, leading to assassination attempts during a grand wedding.

Meng Jinxia, with congenital heart disease, faces marital issues, only those like her legitimate brother Meng Hanhong fare somewhat better.

Bai Ruozhu silently prayed in her heart, hoping the army could rescue Meng Jinse, as for Xu Huilin and Meng Jinxia, she intended to help them as much as possible.

At least she had helped Xu Huilin somewhat, that should be a reason for joy.

”Grandma, everything has its destiny, if Jinxia’s health improves, let her visit me more often.” Bai Ruozhu’s face regained its smile.

”Wait until you’ve finished your bridal school’s matters in a few days. If anyone bullies you, you mustn’t tolerate it. In Beiyu City, our family has never been easily bullied.” Meng’s Old Madam said assertively.

”So Han Zhiyong merely closed the school for a few days, dare not offend me severely.” Bai Ruozhu said while taking Meng’s Old Madam’s pulse again, finding her condition alright, but she was overly thoughtful.

She couldn’t persuade more; with such events happening at home, her eldest son on expedition, how could the elder lady be carefree?

Once she tested the yellow pill, she planned to give some to the Old Madam to improve her constitution.

”That’s good.” The Old Madam’s expression softened as she spoke.

Bai Ruozhu chatted with her a bit longer before saying goodbye and returning home.

This time, she hid in her space to thoroughly study the black fruit tree.

She picked a pitch-black fruit, finding it strange. The fruit’s black was deep, without any trace of purple or other colors, just black. Its skin lacked any sheen, being purely dark black.

She sniffed its scent, sensing a hint of familiarity, but couldn’t pinpoint why it felt familiar, pondering without conclusion.

She decided to break open the fruit to study it. Just as she reached out to peel its skin, Xiaohei suddenly darted over, angrily roaring.
