Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 1957: Chapter 1956: Are the Mother and Child Safe?

Si Yihuan felt intrigued, her big eyes sparkling as she looked at Bai Ruozhu and whispered, ”Dear sister, please tell me, I’m very curious.”

”Hey, you’re not even my second sister-in-law yet, and you’re already calling me sister. I’m older than you!” Bai Ruozhu teased her on purpose.

Si Yihuan’s face turned a light shade of red, and her voice grew even softer, ”It’s just a matter of tomorrow.”

Bai Ruozhu saw her like this and smiled even more broadly. Si Yihuan must have a soft spot for her second brother, otherwise, she wouldn’t have blushed so easily in the past.

When did it start? Could it be that time when her second brother gave her osmanthus pastry?

Bai Ruozhu grinned like a fox. Could it be she accidentally helped her second brother and Si Yihuan out?

”Don’t be fooled by Ma Linglong’s arrogance now; she’s probably already lost her inner strength and will find it hard to have children in the future.” Bai Ruozhu lowered her voice and shared her recent discovery with Si Yihuan.

”In the past, I didn’t think much of it because I didn’t care about her matters, but seeing her just now seemed off. She got involved with Saihan, who has a powerful poisonous insect in his body, which also affected her. But who can she blame? Everyone must be responsible for their own choices.”

Si Yihuan’s mouth opened slightly in shock, and after a while, she sighed, ”Indeed, if she chose to get entangled with Saihan, who can she blame? The young master of the Ji Family treated her well. If she can’t have children, who knows if she can maintain her position in the Ji Family.”

”The Ji Family? I don’t think I’ve heard of them. What’s the story? I saw her flaunting quite a bit today.” Bai Ruozhu asked.

Si Yihuan grabbed Bai Ruozhu and whispered the gossip, ”The Ji Family isn’t an aristocrat in the Capital, but from old master Ji to the current master, they are good at business. They mainly operate in the southern regions, so it’s normal you haven’t heard of them. The Ji Family has become wealthy and wants their offspring to enter officialdom. In this generation, not many excelled in studies, but Ma Linglong married Ji Bao, who passed the imperial exam and could seek an official position.”

Si Yihuan spoke without any aversion toward the Ji Family or Ji Bao.

”But the old master of the Ji Family wants Ji Bao to become a Capital official, ideally entering the Hanlin Academy, so the whole family moved to the Capital. Unexpectedly, they encountered the situation with King Rui. Later, the old master of the Ji Family made connections, donated silver to the Imperial Court, and proposed to the emperor to grant Ji Bao a marriage and a position. The Empress Dowager had also promised the Ma Family to arrange a marriage for Ma Linglong, so she simply assigned her to the Ji Family and arranged an excellent position for Ji Bao.”

Bai Ruozhu showed a look of regret. Hearing that the old master wanted Ji Bao to become a Capital official, it seemed the family had foresight, but it was a pity they married such a woman.

The emperor too, after they donated silver to the court, gave them second-hand goods to trouble the Ji Family.

”Does the Ji Family know about Ma Linglong’s situation?” Bai Ruozhu asked quietly.

”I heard the emperor subtly hinted to the Ji Family, and the old master hesitated. But after Ji Bao met Ma Linglong once, he insisted on marrying her. You see Ma Linglong is so smug because Ji Bao dotes on her.” Si Yihuan said.

Bai Ruozhu was speechless. What kind of luck is that? Perhaps this is what’s called true love.

After reflecting, Si Yihuan continued, ”By the way, have you heard? The maid by Consort Le’s side gave birth to a prince.”

Bai Ruozhu was a bit stunned, having been so busy lately that she had forgotten about Ling Xue’s matter.

”Are mother and child safe?” she couldn’t help but ask.

Si Yihuan was somewhat puzzled by her question. Bai Ruozhu quickly realized that Si Yihuan only knew the maid by Consort Le’s side was pregnant with a Dragon Heir but didn’t know the deeper details.

”I don’t know. I just heard the Virtuous Queen discussing it.” Si Yihuan replied.

After chatting a while longer, Bai Ruozhu took her leave and returned home.

Upon entering, she heard the doorman say, ”Miss, the clan leader has brought people to offer their congratulations.”

Bai Ruozhu smiled with delight, ”Where are they now?”

”They just arrived and are in the Main Hall.” the servant replied.

Bai Ruozhu, seeing that the servant was clever, rewarded him with some broken silver and quickly headed to the Main Hall.

Her second brother’s wedding was prepared in such haste that they had only sent a loose invitation to the clan, unsure if Bai Lu and the others could make it, but fortunately they arrived today.

Entering the Main Hall, Bai Ruozhu immediately spotted the white-haired Bai Lu, feeling a little melancholic. The clan leader Grandpa had aged a lot, but he didn’t seem unwell, just old.

She quickly stepped forward, ”Ruozhu greets clan leader Grandpa, First Uncle, and Second Uncle.”

Bai Lu smiled warmly as he watched Bai Ruozhu get up, saying, ”You have given birth to two big fat sons, yet you don’t bring them back for me to hold. You’re always out and about.”

Because Bai Ruozhu had to go to the Barbarian Clan, she hadn’t properly hosted the celebration for her children’s first month, nor invited her relatives over.

”Aren’t you here to drink the wedding wine for my second brother? You can see those two little ones then?” Bai Ruozhu was speaking when she turned to Nanny Zhang, ”Did you ask the nurse to bring the children over?”

”I’ve told them to; they should be here shortly.” Nanny Zhang said, giving Bai Ruozhu a look. Bai Ruozhu felt puzzled but couldn’t pursue it further with so many people around.

Luckily, the nurse soon brought the children over. Bai Ruozhu then understood Nanny Zhang’s look and couldn’t help but laugh. It was because she often dressed Tiaotiao in girls’ clothes, and with so many guests today, Nanny Zhang had the nurse change Tiaotiao into boy’s clothes before bringing him out.

Well, she felt a small pang of guilt. Perhaps she should refrain from whimsically dressing her little Tiaotiao like that in the future.

Bai Lu and the others were immediately charmed by the little babies and surrounded Bengbeng and Tiaotiao. But after quite a while, the little ones grew unhappy, impatiently starting to cry. After all, who enjoys being around a bunch of old men?

The nurse and Min Ju each carried one, quickly taking them to the side room.

Once Bai Lu and the others were seated, Bai Ruozhu curiously asked, ”Why didn’t Third Uncle come?”

Bai Lu showed a look of embarrassment, ”I asked him to stay and watch over Bai Fu and the others. It’s my fault. I was so happy after receiving the news that I told the people in the Village, and the news spread to Mountain Village. Bai Fu and the others were upset about not being invited and started complaining about you being unfilial or something.”

Bai Ruozhu scoffed, ”Do they even have the nerve to say that?”

”I told the Third brother to keep an eye on them, so they wouldn’t come and spoil the mood.” Bai Lu said.

”It must’ve been hard on Third Uncle and Third Aunt. We’ll have to bring them some wedding candy to eat.” Bai Ruozhu said.

”Alright, I’ll be sure to convey your words.” Bai Lu replied with a smile.

They chatted a while longer, but given Bai Lu’s age, he became a bit fatigued. Bai Zehao quickly arranged for them to stay in the guest room. Jiang Yichun just returned, accompanying Bai Ruozhu and the children back to the yard.

After Bai Ruozhu finished feeding the children, she pulled Jiang Yichun aside and asked, ”You know about Ling Xue giving birth, don’t you?”
