Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 1963: Chapter 1962: The Bridal Towel

Si Yihuan hurried to check on the bed and picked up each dried fruit near Bai Zepei’s body. After thinking it over, she wasn’t reassured, so she used all her strength to flip Bai Zepei to the inner side of the bed and thoroughly cleaned the bed.

After being busy with everything, she felt that the heavy wedding dress was making her a bit stuffy. She reached out to undo the frog button at the collar but suddenly remembered there was still someone in the room, so her hand stopped.

Ultimately, Si Yihuan got up, blew out the red candle, and carefully sat on the outer side of the bed.

She sat for a long time but didn’t feel sleepy. Feeling a bit blocked inside, she started speaking softly.

”I never knew what it meant to like someone before. They say it’s like my parents, but I don’t understand these things; I just like eating, trying all kinds of delicious food. So my mother says I’m not like a girl, and she’s afraid I’ll someday eat myself into a big fat person. Even after I got engaged to you, I didn’t think much about it; I just thought you weren’t ugly, and I didn’t dislike you.”

”But I don’t know why I’m suddenly nervous now. You surely won’t like a wife like me, right?” Si Yihuan said in a muffled voice, seemingly talking to herself, ”They say men don’t like foodies, and of all the people I know, only Ruozhu said foodies are great.”

The person on the bed blinked. Actually, he wasn’t asleep. It wasn’t that he was pretending to be drunk; he was indeed drunk when he came in, and after a tiring day, he just wanted to collapse and sleep. Who knew that when he fell onto the bed, he was jabbed awake by those dried fruits, sobering him up.

He suspected that the true intention of those matchmakers placing dried fruits on the bed was precisely this.

Because of the awkwardness, not knowing how to face Si Yihuan, he simply continued to pretend to be drunk, but he was fully aware of her every move. When Si Yihuan pushed him towards the inside of the bed, he was even nervous for a moment, thinking she was going to undress him.

But it turned out Si Yihuan was just helping him get rid of those damned dried fruits, and he couldn’t help but relax, as if a warm current flowed through him.

When she blew out the red candle, he was too sleepy to keep his eyes open, but she started speaking to herself.

Hearing her words, he felt a bit pained. She was a good girl, and since he had married her, he should treat her well. A wife is not a decoration; she’s a partner for life.

Perhaps, he should learn to accept her.

Soon, Si Yihuan lay down in her clothes, and her breathing quickly became deep and even as she fell asleep. Bai Zepei smiled slightly and soon fell asleep as well.

Early the next morning, the maid outside woke Si Yihuan, ”Second Young Madam, it’s time to get up and serve tea to the Master and Madam.”

Si Yihuan hadn’t quite grasped the situation yet. She still didn’t like being called ”Second Young Madam.” It wasn’t until Bai Zepei moved that she remembered it was her personal maid’s voice.

”I drank too much last night, made things difficult for you,” Bai Zepei said, his voice a bit hoarse, looking quite exhausted from the previous day.

”No, no problem.” Si Yihuan became nervous, stumbling over her words.

Bai Zepei got up and quickly rolled off her, saying, ”I’ll go change and freshen up first, then we’ll go to the main room to serve tea to Father and Mother.”

”Okay.” Si Yihuan felt that when he flipped over just now, his face was extraordinarily close, making her heart involuntarily race.

Bai Zepei changed out of the alcohol-smelling wedding clothes behind the screen while the maid entered the room to help Si Yihuan with washing up.

The head maid noticed she was still wearing last night’s wedding dress and hesitated to speak, but Si Yihuan quickly realized what was happening.

Startled, she nearly knocked over a basin of water.

Oh no, she and he hadn’t consummated their marriage, and there was no bed sheet. How would she explain this to her mother-in-law’s head maid when they went to serve tea later? Wouldn’t the Bai Family look down on her?

But how could she explain it? Could she complain and say that your son drank too much and couldn’t get up, so we didn’t consummate?

How could she say that? What on earth should she do?

She looked at the shadow behind the screen. Should she talk to him?

She instinctively shook her head, her face burning. She definitely didn’t want to say such an embarrassing thing!

The head maid beside her saw her shaking her head one moment, then blushing the next, guessing if her lady had been wronged by the son-in-law. Could it be that they really hadn’t consummated the marriage?

The head maid couldn’t help but worry for her lady, silently resolving that if her lady was misunderstood by her mother-in-law, she would speak up for her lady even if it meant risking her own standing.

Si Yihuan’s dowry maid was carefully selected by her mother, and she was loyal and reliable to the utmost.

Soon, Bai Zepei dressed in casual clothes and led the newly dressed Si Yihuan towards the main room.

Because Lin Ping’er was still in her confinement period, the tea-serving ceremony was moved to Lin Ping’er’s room. After Lin Ping’er symbolically drank the tea and gave a red envelope to Si Yihuan, she waved her hand and said, ”You gentlemen can all leave now. Today, I’ll keep these ladies here for breakfast.”

Bai Yihong and the others hurriedly took turns giving red envelopes and then retreated. Naturally, those left were the ladies of the house, including Wan Caiyue, Bai Ruozhu, Fang Guizhi, and the apprehensive Si Yihuan.

But Si Yihuan, true to her foodie nature, immediately forgot her worries while eating the Bai Family’s crystal shrimp dumplings, even thinking: Marrying into the Bai Family was clearly the right choice; even breakfast is so delicious.

After breakfast, Lin Ping’er let them go and instructed Si Yihuan to go back and rest, telling her not to tire herself out.

When Si Yihuan apprehensively returned to the yard, she waited until lunchtime, and no nanny came to ask her for the bed sheet. Only then did she feel somewhat relieved.

At noon, as they headed to the main room together, Bai Zepei suddenly turned and asked, ”Are you nervous about something? Don’t worry, everyone in the family is easy to get along with.”

Si Yihuan was still preoccupied thinking about the bed sheet, so she mindlessly blurted out what was on her mind.

”Bed sheet.”

She immediately regretted it after she said it, her face blushing down to her neck, ”I-I didn’t mean anything else.”

Bai Zepei showed a guilty expression. He indeed hadn’t considered this matter beforehand. In most aristocratic families, the bed sheet is checked on the second day of marriage, so it was no wonder Si Yihuan was so distracted.

He cleared his throat to suppress his own awkwardness and said, ”Our family doesn’t check that, so you don’t have to be nervous. You’ll gradually find out that our family doesn’t have many rules; just that Father and Mother like to have dinner together, and there’s no rule against talking while eating.”

The words ”our family” made Si Yihuan’s heart feel warm. She felt that she would surely integrate into the Bai Family quickly.

She breathed a big sigh of relief, ”I should have asked you first thing this morning; it’s made me lose my appetite.”

Bai Zepei couldn’t help but laugh, ”Then you can eat more later.”

Si Yihuan turned her head to look at his profile, thinking dazedly, so that’s how handsome his profile is, and his smile is so warm. How had she never noticed before?

Sure enough, lunchtime was lively, with the Bai family chatting back and forth, the room never felt cold or quiet. Si Yihuan occasionally chimed in with a word or two, smiling with her eyes. She thought these days would surely be very pleasant.
