Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 1968: Chapter 1967: Old Ginger Is Spiciest

When Bai Ruozhu returned to the yard, Jiang Yichun had already come back ahead of time.

”Didn’t you say you’d come back in the evening for dinner together?” Bai Ruozhu asked, pleasantly surprised, as a thought crossed her mind—could it be that the Emperor had granted him a break at home?

Rationally, she knew this was impossible, but she still held onto a sliver of hope.

”The Emperor has given the main officers going on the expedition a break. We gather the day before setting out,” Jiang Yichun explained.

”Oh.” Bai Ruozhu couldn’t hide her disappointment as she said, ”You know the Emperor issued a Holy Edict to my second brother, right?”

Jiang Yichun nodded, and seeing the disappointment in her eyes, he couldn’t help but feel heartache.

”I don’t know how Elder Su negotiated with the Emperor.” Bai Ruozhu speculated internally; the ancestral teachings of Jiuli are to not partake in any political disputes. Elder Su surely didn’t agree to help the Emperor seize Jiang Mountain, did he?

”I didn’t dare ask the Emperor directly,” Jiang Yichun murmured.

Bai Ruozhu nodded slightly; indeed, he couldn’t ask about this matter, otherwise it would seem he also wanted to stay behind from the expedition.

Even though he really didn’t want to leave, he couldn’t abandon the Emperor at this time.

”I’ll know once I see Elder Su later.” Bai Ruozhu remarked.

Jiang Yichun put his arm around her waist, his voice somewhat muffled, ”Ruozhu, I’m sorry.”

”Why are you apologizing?” She gave him a playful glare.

”I have to leave you and the children again, I’m an unworthy husband.” Jiang Yichun said remorsefully.

Bai Ruozhu reached out and pulled at his tightly pressed lips, forcing them into an upwards curve, ”Even if you didn’t want to go, I wouldn’t agree. How can any egg remain unbroken under a toppled nest? If we let King Rui become increasingly powerful, how would we get to live peaceful days? The incident with the thousand-person Blood Curse in the Barbarian Clan is just an example.”

Jiang Yichun nodded slightly, King Rui hated him to the bone, and if King Rui isn’t eradicated, it will be difficult for them to have peaceful days.

Even though they currently govern Beiyu City separately from the Emperor in the east, they are somewhat safe. But if King Rui unifies Jiang Mountain, where could they possibly escape to?

He felt a bit of pain at the corner of his mouth from her actions, but couldn’t help but laugh, ”Stop fooling around. Whose wife plays with her husband’s face like this?”

Bai Ruozhu giggled, ”Others are others; I just love playing with your face.”

He leaned towards her ear, ”I also like playing with you. Since it’s still early, how about...”

Before the sentence was finished, he had already lifted her horizontally and strode towards the bed.

Bai Ruozhu sighed inwardly, this guy was just like a lion out of its cage, unstoppable.

...

Bai Ruozhu was tormented by Jiang Yichun until the afternoon, only letting go when Little Tiaotiao cried from hunger.

She held Tiaotiao to feed him, involuntarily lamenting that women have such a hard time—serving the husband, serving the children, one word: exhaustion.

Having settled Tiaotiao, Bengbeng started crying, Bai Ruozhu hurried over and found Bengbeng had pooped.

Fortunately, Jiang Yichun could handle this, and he immediately took over as the babysitter.

After a while, Min Ju reported from outside, ”Miss, a message came from the West Garden saying that Elder Su has returned.”

”Alright, I’ll head over.” Bai Ruozhu said, tidying her clothes, and turned to look at Jiang Yichun. Jiang Yichun thought for a moment, then said, ”I’ll watch over the children; you can go by yourself.”

Bai Ruozhu nodded, Achun was worried that if he was present, Elder Su might not want to tell the truth.

She quickly reached Elder Su’s yard; he had just asked a servant to make tea, and seeing her arrive, he smilingly invited her to have some tea. Bai Ruozhu took a cup but merely sipped a mouthful; although the tea was good, she couldn’t drink much as she was still breastfeeding.

”You’re here to ask about your second brother?” Elder Su inquired.

Bai Ruozhu nodded, ”I came earlier but you weren’t here, and I’m just really curious.”

Elder Su chuckled, ”It’s not a major issue, just gifted the Emperor a book on Military Tactics.”

Aha, indeed, with age comes wisdom. The ancestral teachings of Jiuli say not to interfere in political matters or help any countries on the continent, but gifting a book on Military Tactics doesn’t constitute interference, and for Danliang’s army, possessing that book gives them an extra advantage.

This truly proves the saying: Human beings will devise a solution.

”It’s better not to let this spread. Even regarding your second brother, simply say the Emperor honored an old Jiuli Elder.” Elder Su continued, ”To prevent anyone from spinning stories with it.”

Bai Ruozhu nodded, ”I understand.”

After bidding farewell to Elder Su, she indeed ran into her hesitating second brother outside.

”Second brother, don’t go asking; it could annoy Elder Su.” Bai Ruozhu went over to pat her brother’s shoulder, ”Let’s go visit Mother together.”

”What did he say?” Bai Zepei asked.

”It’s not about helping the Emperor seize Jiang Mountain, Jiuli has its ancestral teachings.” Bai Ruozhu explained, ”But in the end, Jiuli’s reputation is formidable, and the Emperor showed face to Elder Su.”

”Is that all?” Bai Zepei clearly didn’t believe it.

Bai Ruozhu shrugged, ”Otherwise, you can go ask yourself, that’s what he told me.”

Bai Zepei grunted, without the intention of asking again himself.

Both of them went over to Lin Ping’er, who had spent half a month in confinement and was in her best mood today.

She held Bai Zepei’s hand and said, ”Be sure to heed the Emperor, going to inspect is also doing the Emperor’s work, serving the Imperial Court.”

”Yes, there’s no rush to depart either; once you’re feeling better, I’ll accompany you south, and we can even visit Jiuli together.” Bai Zepei replied.

Bai Ruozhu saw her second brother was so quick to figure things out, and she felt much better.

Second brother was never one to brood over things, and extraordinarily smart and perceptive, how could he remain gloomy over such a trivial matter?

In the following days, Jiang Yichun stayed at home with Bai Ruozhu and Dengdeng, the three little buns. He was extremely reluctant, but had to leave.

”It’s a pity your father went into hiding, saying he’ll only come back before departure.” Bai Ruozhu spoke softly about Gao Deng’s return. Jiang Yichun shook his head upon hearing this, ”Let him be, I owe that expert a favor.”

He paused and added, ”My father plans to join me on the expedition; I’d prefer him to stay and protect you.”

”Where do we need protection? Aren’t there Auntie, Uncle, and the others? And along the way, there’s Elder Su and those Jiuli experts. In the worst case, my own skills are not lacking. On the contrary, it’s you who worries me.”

Bai Ruozhu originally intended to say his most loyal guards were down to only two, and many carefully trained dark guards had died, but quickly swallowed the words.

She didn’t want him to recall the late Flash and the still unhealed Morning Breeze.

”Having your father follow us wouldn’t be convenient; Jiuli is exclusive, and he couldn’t come inside when the time comes, wouldn’t that be inconvenient?” Bai Ruozhu added.

Jiang Yichun thought about it, ”Okay, let’s let him join me then.”

On the next day, it was the day the young folks had planned a gathering, with those staying throwing a farewell party for those departing. Many who were familiar with Bai Ruozhu were present. Surprisingly, after several rounds of drinks, she heard a shocking piece of news.
