Rebirth: General, Don't Mess Around!

As for the reason why Xia Jinyuan wanted to do it, Ye Jian believed that he would give her an answer—an answer that she could accept.

Because he understood her better than anyone else.

The unreasonable trust made Xia Jinyuan smile.

”You trust me so much? Weren’t you afraid that I’d say that I had known you for eight years?” Xia Jinyuan smiled until his black eyes seemed to be shining brightly. He sighed and said, ”Eight years. I’ve known you for eight years.”

Eight years. How many days and nights were that? But it all felt like yesterday?

That year, they met in the mountains. That year, Ye Jian was still under 14 years old and was still a clueless Grade Eight student. Now, Ye Jian had already graduated from the military school and became an active-duty officer. She was leading a group of female soldiers who might become the first female soldier of the special forces in the country. She carried a heavy responsibility and carried the hopes of the higher-ups of the military.

From an ignorant little girl who stumbled forward and was even confused about her future, to an active officer who had a clear direction and a clear goal, Xia Jinyuan could be said to be Ye Jian’s witness.

He had seen her in her most disheveled and tiring state. He had also seen her in her most glorious state.

They had too many things in common and too many common topics. Even though they were in the same military unit, they didn’t interact much in private. Even when they met, they only nodded in greeting. However, the two of them were connected. They were already very satisfied with just a short eye contact.

It had been eight years. Ye Jian had known Captain Xia for eight years. There was warmth in Ye Jian’s eyes. She hummed softly. ”It’s been eight years. It always felt like I’ve just met you not long ago.”

”I also feel that I haven’t known you for long. If Old Xia hadn’t reminded me two days ago, I wouldn’t have thought that I had known you for eight years.

”I said many things tonight, but I didn’t tell you about it in advance. Fortunately, you’re not angry. If not, I would’ve needed to think of a way to make you happy.”

”Then I’ll say that I’m angry. You can coax me now.” Ye Jian immediately smiled. ”I really want to know how you’ll coax me.”

”I’ll coax you until you forgive me. I’ll coax you until you’ll only smile when you see me and won’t be angry. I haven’t thought of the exact method yet.”

Now… Ye Jian was being coaxed by Lieutenant Colonel Xia until the corners of her lips couldn’t help but curl up. ”Then what’s the reason that you kept talking about me.”

Xia Jinyuan specially looked behind him. After confirming that there was no movement, he lowered his voice and told Ye Jian the real reason.

”To build a foundation for the future, it’s impossible for us to stay in the brigade forever. When we reach a certain age, we’ll definitely leave the brigade. At that time, it’s unlikely for us to retire directly. Instead, we’ll take another path, one that’s different from the one we’re taking now.

”The foundation of the other path can’t be achieved in a day. It’s accumulated over time. Every cornerstone laid might help us walk another path in the future.”

”The considerations of those in power are things that you and I have never considered, and that also includes the considerations of our parents.”

Commander Xia was already 62 years old. He would retire completely at most when he was 70 years old. Xia Jinyuan was six years older than Ye Jian. When the commander retired, Xia Jinyuan would leave his position as the captain of the Xueyu unit. Then, he would have to make arrangements for his future.

Moreover, Xia Jinyuan’s military rank was at most that of a senior colonel. Any higher and he would be a major general. There was a huge hurdle between a senior colonel and a major general. Countless senior colonels would stop there.
