Rebirth: General, Don't Mess Around!

Ye Jian was born as a human, but she was very different.

Some people lived a luxurious life while others lived a rough life. Some worked hard to become people they could be proud of. Some lived hard lives until they died.

They were born different. Even their lives were different.

Yang Zhen and the deputy squad leader didn’t know about Ye Jian’s hardships in the past. They just thought that Ye Jian came from a good family based on what Xia Jinyuan said. Although she was usually silent, her thoughts were different.

The deputy squad leader broke the silence and said softly, ”It has a lot to do with the family environment. Captain Xia said that our instructor’s life mentor was a Class A Master Sergeant. He was an outstanding retired soldier. Who can be as lucky as the instructor?”

”Although she’s lucky, she had to work hard as well. Many people in my military unit relied on their family connections to survive. They’re like parasites. Our instructor is different. Look at her. She’s relying on her own ability.”

”That’s right. What I admire the most is that she doesn’t rely on her family and rely on herself. She’s far better than those who rely on their family connections to muddle through life.” The deputy squad leader felt the same way. No matter where you were, there were people who relied on their families to muddle through life.

The conversation continued. As for why Captain Xia knew so much about Instructor Ye, as the male soldiers kept asking all kinds of questions, Xia Jinyuan consciously ignored that particular question. Until they fell asleep, the female soldiers didn’t hear any answers.

However, at that time, no one cared anymore. Even the female soldiers in the company seemed to have forgotten about it.

The night was quiet. The cold wind in the desert was still blowing wantonly. The two sentinels standing at the shelter held steel guns in their hands and looked straight ahead. Even though their lips were purple from the cold, they didn’t complain about being tired.

The sentinels were sent by the two classes of soldiers. One was a female soldier and the other was a male soldier. They took turns to guard the area for three hours. At midnight, when it was the coldest, the instructors of the second shift took over on time.

Even outside, the standard procedures for the sentry post handover were rigorously completed.

Xia Jinyuan and Ye Jian saluted the two sentinels standing guard. The sentinels returned the salute.

”Sentinels, please stand guard!”

”Everything is normal. Please stand guard!”

”Yes!”

The two sentinels finished their work. Xia Jinyuan and Ye Jian stood guard from 1:00 am to 5:00 am. It was then time to return to the camp.

This wasn’t the first time the two of them stood guard together, but it was the first time since Ye Jian graduated. The two of them stood back to back and occasionally chatted to relieve their fatigue.

Although the desert was cold, the sky was filled with stars. The stars were shining resplendently. The faint cyan starlight revealed the undulating lines of the desert mountains in front of them. The sky was black and the earth was yellow. The universe was desolate. The sun and moon were shining brightly. This was the future.

There was a faint sound in the wind. It was the sound of two sentinels entering their sleeping bags. When peace returned, Lieutenant Colonel Xia, who was standing guard, turned his head and looked at Ye Jian, whose back was facing him. Then, he took a step back with his long legs. He didn’t stop until he was close to Ye Jian’s back.

Ye Jian, who was standing guard and looking straight ahead, said helplessly, ”Captain Xia, stand guard.”

”Talking won’t affect our guard duty.” Xia Jinyuan, who was scanning the surroundings, spoke in a low voice. Although his gaze was cold, his voice was a little warm. ”Were you very nervous just now? Were you angry?”

He was referring to the question that the female soldier asked him.

Ye Jian thought for a moment before smiling. ”I wasn’t nervous. I knew you’d handle it. Was I angry? No, I was just… a little unaccustomed to it. However, I believe that you did it for a reason. Hence, although I wasn’t used to it, I could accept it.”

Wasn’t it easy to deal with? He didn’t answer the female soldier in the end.
