I Just Started College, How Could I Become a Part-Time Papa?!

Chapter 87: Chapter 72: All for the Mom’s Health

When the music ended and Chen Yuan walked off stage, applause, cheers, and screams thundered through the venue.

Even Fang Youning, the final act of the night, was completely overshadowed. The unending applause made the gap in their popularity painfully obvious.

Most of the people in the audience hadn’t even been born when Digimon first aired, but that didn’t stop it from becoming a massive hit. As a classic that constantly goes viral on TikTok, even those who had never seen the anime had definitely heard the song.

Swept up in the electric atmosphere, the crowd’s excitement was palpable, completely eclipsing Fang Youning.

Chen Yuan breathed a sigh of relief.

Fortunately, he’d had a flash of inspiration and remembered something he had previously overlooked.

The music library Tongzi had rewarded him with didn’t just contain Chinese children’s songs; it had children’s songs from other countries, too.

Since the soundtracks for shows like Legend of Nezha and The Legend of Deification were considered children’s songs, then soundtracks from Japanese anime should count as well.

There was a restriction, though. Only anime soundtracks from before the year 2000 qualified as children’s songs. Anything later was off-limits.

This was understandable, though. In later years, soundtracks for major film and television productions were usually performed by pop stars. They were basically just pop songs and didn’t really fit the criteria for children’s music.

All in all, Tongzi was pretty decent. It was generous to include a song like this, as it could have easily been disqualified.

’Tongzi, you magnificent bastard. I’ll burn some joss paper for you at the crossroads tonight.’

BUZZ—

His phone buzzed. It was a message from Song Jianye.

Song Jianye: ”Thank you.”

Staring at the two words on his phone, Chen Yuan wasn’t sure how to reply.

’But the fact that she said it means she liked it.’

[Task Complete: Reward 1,700 yuan cash, Professional-Grade Maternal and Infant Photography Skills]

’The task is complete?’

Chen Yuan had never imagined the task would be completed this way.

But that wasn’t important. What mattered was that the song had resonated with her.

A few seconds later, the reward flooded into Chen Yuan’s mind. The knowledge was divided into two parts.

One part covered the technical skills for using the equipment, while the other covered practical shooting experience.

The equipment skills were straightforward, covering cameras and phones. The practical experience, however, was different—it wasn’t comprehensive at all.

He took out his phone, adjusted some settings, and snapped a selfie.

The photo looked great, but that was mostly because he was already good-looking. Even without the system’s reward, he could have taken a pretty similar shot.

[Photography Skills are limited to the maternal and infant demographic. They are not applicable to other people or scenery.]

’It’s that restrictive?’

’Damn it, the joss paper plan for tonight is canceled!’

Chen Yuan was about to reply, but at that moment, Fang Youning walked over.

”You sang so well! You completely electrified the crowd. I think you’re going to get first place.”

Fang Youning was thrilled. After the music started, it was as if she was seeing a whole new side of Chen Yuan.

’He really does have hidden depths. He was just hiding his true talent all along.’

”It doesn’t matter what you think, it’s what the judges think that counts.”

”Teacher Liu is a true professional. He’ll probably give you first place.”

”We’ll see what the results are.”

Before long, the results came in and were delivered backstage.

”Look! You got first place!”

Fang Youning was ecstatic, even happier than if she had won first place herself.

Chen Yuan smacked his lips. This result was just surreal.

Singing children’s songs all the way to the finals, and then winning first place with a last-minute decision to perform ”Butter-Fly”... life was truly stranger than fiction.

Afterward, the top ten contestants were called to the stage, like the final MVP screen in a video game.

As soon as Chen Yuan stepped on stage, the guys from Dorm 307 went wild.

Sheng Kangming’s repeated shouts of ”I love you!” made Chen Yuan cover his face, wishing the ground would swallow him whole.

’For the first time, he felt that accepting an award on stage wasn’t all that glamorous.’

Each of the top ten received a certificate, and the top three also got a small trophy.

It was made of pretty cheap material. The budget had probably been spent on Maotai.

After accepting his award, Chen Yuan left. He asked Sun Pengnan to take the certificate and trophy back to the dorm for him, then went to meet Song Jianye at the university gate.

”Was that song the reward you prepared for me?”

”Reward?”

Chen Yuan’s brain short-circuited for a moment, and he didn’t know what she meant.

”I kept my living expenses under 500 last week, and you said you were going to give me a big reward. This was it, right?”

”Oh, right, right, that’s the one. I hope it was okay.”

Song Jianye looked at him suspiciously, putting on a stern expression.

”No, that’s not right...”

”What’s not right?”

”On Monday, you said you’d give me my reward on the weekend. Today is Friday, not the weekend, so there should be another one.”

”But we have driving practice this weekend.”

”Don’t worry, I already asked for the day off. We can take a break on Saturday.”

”Then I’ll take you out tomorrow.”

”Can we take...”

”Absolutely not!”

Song Jianye pouted. A truly tragic tale.

”Fine. You decide where we go.”

”That’s a good girl.”

After walking Song Jianye back to her dorm, Chen Yuan left. At this rate, he could get to Jiang Wanyi’s place before nine.

A few more sessions, and that task should be completed soon.

As he left the university gate, he saw the cotton candy vendor was still there and bought one on a whim.

’Mili will probably love this.’

’But I’ll only let her have a little bit. Just a taste is enough.’

He took a taxi to Jiang Wanyi’s house.

On the way, he saw that the External Liaison Department’s group chat was blowing up. Messages were flooding in, and everyone was frantically tagging him.

Li Yong’an: ”The livestream just now had over 800 concurrent viewers at its peak!”
