The Female CEO's Personal Bodyguard

Chapter 489: Chapter 489 Who is so Cheap?_1

Carson Flores, flashlight in hand, left the ancient temple openly and without hesitation.

He looked back and, sure enough, saw Maxton James and his followers also leaving the ancient temple. At the same time, Carson noticed the subtle glances of numerous onlookers directed at the members of the Five Dragon Sect.

Carson chuckled to himself. Maxton James wanted to kill him, but there were also many who wanted to ambush Maxton James.

As Carson came down from the ancient temple and entered the city, he extinguished the light and swiftly ascended to a high point on a building.

In the distance, lights flickered on and off. This was a unique feature of the Underground City: without the moon or stars, complete darkness reigned. If you didn’t turn on the lighting equipment, you couldn’t see your own hand in front of your face. In this totally unfamiliar place, moving forward was out of the question, let alone fighting.

Carson kept a close watch on Maxton James and his group, waiting in silence.

Maxton and his men, tracking Carson, had traveled some distance into the city. When they saw the flashlight indicating Carson’s presence suddenly disappear, they stopped abruptly.

”The kid is hiding.”

Maxton frowned and looked around, ”He’s clear about our grudge; he’s hiding from us now.”

”What shall we do now?”

Maxton glanced at the lights behind him and made a clean decision, ”Forget him, let’s move at full speed; someone is watching us.”

”OK!”

Killing Carson was a minor matter, something that could be easily done. Since Carson was prepared and being so cautious, they might as well let him go for now.

Their priority was to escort the door引 obtained from the Heavenly Mountain back to the outside world. That was their most important mission, the only way to stop others from pursuing and attacking them.

A few men ran wildly, burying their heads in the effort. The people following behind, seeing their quarry accelerate, became anxious and sped up as well, abandoning any attempt at stealth in their frenzied pursuit.

Carson saw this and couldn’t help but be amused.

Every villain has their match; for now, he would just watch the drama unfold.

Carson followed the Five Dragon Sect at a safe distance, sprinting behind them all the way. The small Five Dragon Sect squad in the lead realized they were being followed and quickly turned off their flashlights before sneaking into a nearby house to hide.

Carson was close enough to see everything clearly.

He smirked silently and crept closer.

Did they think hiding would save them?

Carson got close to their hiding spot and quickly set fire to the roof of a nearby house.

Wilson Weiss once said that there was nothing of value left in this city, so Carson had no reservations about setting the fire. Besides, having received Wilson Weiss’s inheritance, Carson was undoubtedly the one with the greatest gains from this trip. If it hadn’t been for dealing with the people from the Five Dragon Sect, he would have been ready to return.

The flames rapidly soared, turning into a huge inferno. The people who had just lost track of the Five Dragon Sect saw the blaze and naturally gravitated towards it.

”Swish, swish, swish!”

Instantly, three squads rushed through the darkness, landing near the fire, watching each other warily and with caution.

They knew each other’s purpose, but since the door引 was still in Maxton’s possession, they naturally wouldn’t start fighting each other just yet.

”Let’s all use our own methods then,” someone suggested.

”Agreed!”

The three squads quickly came to a consensus.

Carson, hidden in the shadows, suddenly called out in a hoarse whisper, ”The second house directly in front.”

The three squads, originally unsure who started the fire or why, nor where the Five Dragon Sect had hidden, were instantly alert at this news.

All three groups charged towards the house Carson had pointed out. Simultaneously, the wall of that house exploded, and people from the Five Dragon Sect burst out.

The three squads surrounded them, not wasting words, and began fighting straight away.

Maxton was a prime target, and though he was strong, he was momentarily stunned by the sudden onslaught, fuming!

He, too, heard that distasteful call.

Who would be so despicable?

Five against fifteen was a losing battle, and soon the Five Dragon Sect suffered casualties.

Maxton, ruthless as he was, knew that if this continued, not only would they lose the door引, they would all likely fall here.

With a loud shout, Maxton declared, ”The door引, take it!”

Maxton took out the door引 and, with a forceful throw, hurled it towards the burning building.

The attackers instantly abandoned their assault on the Five Dragon Sect and turned to pounce on the door引 as it hit the ground.

Carson watched the door引 land but made no move.

It was a hot potato; revealing himself to claim it would mean even if he escaped, it could bring endless trouble once he left the Underground City.

He needed to wait for an opportunity, one where he could quietly obtain the door引 without rousing suspicion.

The entire house was engulfed in flames; the fire spread incessantly, a raging inferno reaching the sky.

One squad after another was drawn to the blaze and rushed to the scene. When they discovered everyone was fighting for the door引, they did not hesitate to join the fray.

The battlefield expanded in an instant.

No one noticed that, high above the fiery sky, shadows suddenly appeared en masse.

The shadows converged rapidly from all directions.

Layer upon layer, they obscured the sky, blotting out the light.
