The Female CEO's Personal Bodyguard

Chapter 488: Chapter 488 Someone’s eyes are red with envy, they can’t stand to see nice things_1

”Carson Flores, I thought you were part of the Howell Family team, how come it’s just you here, where are they?”

Carson gave a casual answer, ”I just entered with them, they have the last name Howell, and I have the last name Flores. If we walked together, do you think I would get anything?”

Upon consideration, the group understood the trick to it.

Walking together, Carson would be just a tool, the good stuff definitely wouldn’t include him. With him alone and four from the Howell Family, he couldn’t beat them in a fight—that would be a sure way to get bullied, right?

In such a situation, it was better to be on his own. If he got lucky, he might still find something valuable.

”Looking at your bulging backpack, it seems like you’ve made quite the haul.”

”I’ve been lucky. Can I take a look at what you’ve got?”

Carson took off his backpack, opened it, and shook it towards everyone: ”I found some pills. The Howell Family took the medicinal materials, leaving just a few worthless pills.”

When people asked him, they were actually suspecting that he had taken something from the top of the tower. After all, the marks up there seemed quite fresh. Now seeing the contents of his bag, apart from a few medicine boxes and spare batteries and such, there appeared to be nothing else, which put them at ease.

As for what the medicine boxes contained, no one pressed the question. After all, asking repeatedly while everyone was watching would seem too purposeful and might invite ridicule.

Most importantly, if the elixirs in those medicine boxes were of great value, how could the Howell Family let Carson keep them and only take away some herbs?

”The things you were looking for, did the Howell Family take away the valuable ones?”

Carson laughed helplessly, ”I was recommended to come here by Mr. Jaiden Howell, which put me in his debt.”

Everyone immediately understood. Out of curiosity, someone asked, ”Why would Jaiden Howell recommend you to this place instead of a Howell Family member? Did the Howell Family agree to this?”

Carson explained, ”The old man was sick before, seriously ill, and I was entrusted to save his life. His recommendation was partly to repay the favor for saving him and partly in the hope that my medical skills could be of help to the Howell Family team. But we didn’t get along, and I had no choice but to go alone, I’m afraid I’ll disappoint the old man.”

The crowd suddenly realized and completely understood the reason behind it.

Carson then turned the tables and started asking, ”I just stumbled upon this place when I saw the lights and hurried over. Why are so many of you gathered here? Is there something valuable?”

Someone laughed and answered, ”There’s a stele in the city center with a map on it, and this temple was marked as a key point, so we came to check it out. So far, we’ve only found one Heavenly Mountain Blessed Land gate token, which was claimed by the Five Dragon Sect. We’ve already searched everywhere here, I’m afraid there’s nothing else left...”

Carson looked at the ancient temple before him: ”Mind if I take a look inside?”

”Go ahead and look, this place doesn’t belong to anyone. But if you do find something good, you’d better keep a tight grip on it—some people can’t stand to see others get lucky, their eyes turn red with envy...”

”Who are you talking about? Your own eyes are red, too. Didn’t your sect also join in the competition just now?”

”Exactly, you talk a good talk, but your actions are certainly resolute.”

Carson ignored the chatter of the others and stepped into the ancient temple.

In the temple, flashlight beams were moving all around, clearly with many people searching for valuable items. Carson didn’t have much hope and just wandered aimlessly.

After a circuit, Carson found a grave in the backyard with a tombstone in front of it.

The tombstone detailed the life of the person buried there.

Monk Wu Chen, secular name Emilio Huber, no one knew his origins. He wandered to this place and built this ancient temple with his own hands, healing the sick and spreading Buddha’s teachings, doing good deeds. Over time, the temple started to attract worshippers.

Wu Chen lived in the region for more than two hundred and seventy years, passing away with a smile and was cremated by his disciples, who then buried his remains here and erected this stele to let the world know of his deeds and this place.

Two hundred and seventy years?

And that was just the time the monk named Wu Chen spent here—how old he was before that, no one knew.

Carson marveled inwardly at the wonders of this Blessed Land of Cave Heavens. No wonder there were rumors in the world of immortals here, possessing the secrets to eternal life.

After making a round, Carson found nothing else and turned to leave the temple, heading back to the entrance.

The various teams outside had completed their exploration and, finding no further discoveries, were preparing to leave.

Carson felt someone watching him and turned his head to see that it was Maxton James from the Five Dragon Sect.

Carson’s mind raced—he was being watched?

Could it be that he also knew about the grudge between himself, Shane Fox, and Gunner Tate?

Was he planning to kill him?

That suited Carson just fine, as he was also interested in the Heavenly Mountain Blessed Land gate token in Maxton’s possession.

He had been thinking about following them, but why not test first to see if they might follow him instead?
