The Female CEO's Personal Bodyguard

Chapter 485: Chapter 485 The Change of the Ring_1

Carson Flores dared not move a muscle.

Each of these ugly creatures was not very big, probably only about thirty centimeters long, with sharp teeth that seemed capable of piercing through their own mouths, razor-sharp claws, and a pair of lifeless, gray-black eyes that were filled with death and were quite terrifying to behold.

Such monsters could be killed by the handful with just a palm strike from Carson, but now they were teeming around him, densely packed, extending into the darkness beyond the reach of the firelight, likely numbering in the thousands, if not tens of thousands.

If they were to swarm over him, even an iron man like Carson would not be able to withstand them.

Carson finally understood why the five corpses he had seen earlier had been covered in blood, yet not a trace of flesh remained on them; obviously, all the flesh had entered the bellies of these creatures the instant the cultivators were killed.

Carson, completely surrounded, had nothing but hope that these creatures were afraid of fire.

Suddenly, one of the creatures flapped its wings and flew up, lunging at Carson.

Carson’s heart sank, and he stepped back, pressing against the wall. With a palm strike, he killed the creature in an instant.

In the next second, numerous creatures took flight, and many of them lunged toward Carson.

Carson naturally would not sit and wait for death; in an instant, he was back inside the burning building. In the next second, countless bricks and stones, mixed with flames, shot out in all directions.

The creatures that had pounced were instantly knocked down, but no sooner had they hit the ground than more creatures pounced on their bodies, tearing the carcasses into pieces and swallowing them, leaving nothing behind but dark pools of blood on the ground.

Carson waved two burning sticks, using the flames to drive the teeming creatures away from the entrance of the hut.

The creatures indeed seemed to be afraid of fire, instinctively avoiding the flames, but there were too many of them, and Carson’s wrist, swinging the fire sticks, was soon attacked and scratched open by one of the creatures, causing blood to immediately pour out.

The blood ran down his fingers and onto the brass ring he had picked up earlier. The blood was absorbed into the archaic engravings on the inside of the ring, and then the ring suddenly began to glow. The light converged into a shadow that looked like a 3D projection.

Carson was startled by this sudden occurrence. He recognized at a glance that the shadow was the same dignified middle-aged man he had seen on the mountain before.

The middle-aged man’s luminous shadow seemed as if it had life, casually touching the air with a fingertip. A golden light instantly appeared, and then, like a bubble, the golden speck rapidly expanded and enlarged, forming golden rings wherever it touched, causing the creatures to fall to the ground.

In the blink of an eye, it was as if a rain of creatures had fallen from the sky.

The golden rings expanded to a diameter of a hundred meters, then dissipated into light spots that faded into the air, leaving a dense layer of monster carcasses on the ground.

However, beyond a hundred meters, the creatures were still densely packed, seemingly unaware of fear, and once again flapping their wings, lunging toward the central area where Carson stood.

The middle-aged man frowned slightly, turned to Carson with a slight smile, and then touched Carson’s forehead with a fingertip before his luminous shadow slowly faded away.

The creatures crowded in, and just as Carson prepared in panic to retreat back to the fire, these creatures suddenly acted as if they had encountered something terrifying, turning around in confusion and frantically beating their wings to flee from Carson until they stopped ten meters away.

Under the glow of the fire, a bizarre scene unfolded.

On the ground lay creature carcasses, with Carson standing in front of the firelight, amidst the dead bodies. Around him, within a semicircular radius of ten meters, not a single creature was present, but just beyond ten meters, there was a thick swarm of them.

Carson’s emotions rose and fell several times. Now, at last, he was able to calm down somewhat. He tried walking forward a few steps and to his surprise, he found that the creatures in front of him, terrified beyond belief, retreated backward, stopping again just beyond ten meters!

Carson was overjoyed. He remembered the touch of the middle-aged man’s shadow on his forehead. That man had killed many creatures with a single move, but realizing the creatures seemed endless, he had instead cast some mysterious spell on Carson, like adding a fear BUFF with a range of ten meters.

The fire from the surrounding buildings was growing, reaching toward the sky.

Carson picked up his flashlight, picked up the backpack of the unfortunate team, and ran wildly into the distance.

The fire might attract other Grandmaster Teams. If they witnessed this scene, Carson wouldn’t be able to explain himself at all. If he left the Underground City and returned to the outside world, wouldn’t he become a target for everyone?

Too dangerous!

Right now, Carson only wanted to rush back to the sunlit world!

After running madly for an unknowable distance, that feeling of being watched finally disappeared. Carson stopped, his flashlight illuminating the surroundings, but he couldn’t find a single creature.

They actually let me go?

Carson was thrilled beyond words. After calming his emotions, he finally had time to lift his hand and look at the brass ring on his right ring finger.

The ring looked the same as before, seemingly unchanged.

Carson gently reached out to touch the ring, but just as his hand made contact with it, another strange occurrence began!
