Return of the Antagonistic Lady Boss

Chapter 1187: Chapter 1159: Immediate Results

Mrs. Yu went to her daughter‑in‑law’s place and found it empty. The old lady wasn’t easy to shake off, so she went straight downstairs and knocked on Qiao Zhen’s door. Qiao Zhen didn’t dare offend her, and could only obediently tell her the places where Yu Minglang might be. Mrs. Yu even made him give her a ”soldier” who could pick locks.

She left Yu Minglang absolutely no escape route. Under the powerful aura of Mrs. Yu, Qian could only shoot Yu Minglang a look: universal double‑sided tape, let’s see what you can do!

”Mom, this is my fault, don’t get mad at Qian. Isn’t it because she’s pregnant that her brain’s gone a bit stupid? Just look at all the things she’s done today—does that look like a normal person? She’s just gone dumb, don’t stoop to her level—oww!” Yu Minglang dodged his mom’s flying pot lid by a hair. This old lady was ruthless!

Mrs. Yu couldn’t bear to lay a finger on Qian. Not to mention Qian’s pregnant and can’t be upset; even before she was pregnant, Mrs. Yu couldn’t bring herself to be harsh with her. Once there’s a crack in the mother‑in‑law/daughter‑in‑law relationship, it’s hard to mend. Mrs. Yu understood that, so she vented all the anger she’d been holding in entirely on Yu Minglang.

Anyway, her son’s got thick skin and flesh, he’s not afraid of a beating. Throwing things at him right off the bat is perfectly fine.

Yu Minglang put on a fawning grin. ”Mom, don’t hit me, I’m innocent. You should whack her, this is all her fault. Look at this little girl, how disobedient she is. You told her not to keep a dog and she just had to go and do the opposite—that’s her challenging your authority as a mother‑in‑law! Mom, tell me, isn’t she trying to dominate our household, or maybe knock your status down a peg and steal your role as head of the family? Hurry up and beat her. You beat her, and I’ll hold her down for you!”

Yu Minglang was deliberately talking in reverse. What he said was actually the kind of thinking mothers‑in‑law in ordinary families often have.

”What nonsense are you spouting?” Mrs. Yu almost got amused by him; when it came to talking drivel, she only admired her younger son!

”If she’s not trying to edge you out of your position, then it means she doesn’t see you as her mom at all. In her heart, she just thinks her own mother is better than her husband’s mom! Don’t be fooled by how she usually brings you presents and stuff—each bag costs tens of thousands—but in her heart she doesn’t treat you as one of her own! She just wants to use the evil power of money to corrupt my mom’s pure proletarian heart!”

”Stop talking rubbish! Qian doesn’t only pick expensive stuff when she gives us things. That child’s quite thoughtful.”

His whole reverse‑talk spiel actually did make her think of all the good Qian had done for her.

Qian knew Mr. Yu and Mrs. Yu weren’t short on money, but she never cut corners on etiquette. Whenever she came across something nice, she would think of her father‑ and mother‑in‑law. Of course, her own parents didn’t get less either. She usually prepared one for the Yu Family and one for her own family—sometimes very valuable gifts, sometimes not expensive but hard to find.

That kind of filial heart isn’t something money can buy.

Yu Minglang cocked his eyebrow at Qian in triumph. See that? Bro’s trick of going against the grain works, doesn’t it?

The old lady had come in fuming, but with just a few sentences from this little fire‑brigade, half her anger had been put out.

Seeing his mom’s expression ease up a bit, Yu Minglang pushed his luck.

”So that means this little girl did it on purpose to rile you up. Look how mad she’s made my mom! Mom, you should just smack her and be done with it. A mother‑in‑law is half a mom—if the daughter‑in‑law doesn’t behave, she deserves a beating!”

Mrs. Yu raised her hand and precisely and ruthlessly pinched her son’s ear. ”The worst one here is you, brat!”

”Ow ow ow! Mom~ I’m your own flesh and blood, why are you hitting me? Aren’t I standing on your side here?” Yu Minglang grinned in pain.

”You’re simply a little bastard! Never mind that your wife’s pregnant now—even if she wasn’t, you still can’t hit her! I did not raise you to disrespect women! Qian, does he dare to lay his hands on you at home too?”

The conflict got redirected. Mrs. Yu turned to question Qian, while Yu Minglang hurriedly threw his wife a look: Wife, cooperate!

But Qian didn’t pick up his distress signal—or maybe she did and was pretending not to see it.

She just lowered her head in silence, looking all aggrieved. Seeing that, Mrs. Yu twisted her son even harder.

”Mom, actually he treats me really well.” Qian finally spoke.

”Oh my, daughter‑in‑law, you really are my true daughter‑in‑law. Couldn’t you have said that a bit ’earlier’?” Xiaoqiang had already been thoroughly disciplined by his mom, and he swore his wife had deliberately waited until Mrs. Yu finished twisting him to speak up.

Truly his real wife! This kind of ’loving’ affection could move heaven and earth and bring tears to ghosts and gods!

”You two jokers... honestly, you’re going to be the death of me.” Mrs. Yu didn’t know whether to be angry or amused; whatever temper she had was all stirred away by these two clowns.

”Mom, Xiaoqiang is right, this time it’s my fault. I really shouldn’t have done something so inappropriate. If you want to scold me, I’ll listen.”

”Exactly! Mom, hurry up and lecture her! And when you lecture this disobedient little woman, make sure that little person in her belly hears it too. Don’t worry, once my daughter comes out I’ll definitely tell her that this whole thing was her mom’s fault, not her grandma’s!”

Sure enough, Mrs. Yu’s attention shifted to Qian’s belly. The moment she heard the word ”daughter,” her eyebrows and eyes all softened.

”We were just talking about it—who will the baby look like when she’s born? They say daughters look like their dads, but they’ll also inherit some obvious features from both parents. Like my high nose bridge, Qian’s little mouth, and her beauty mark. Tsk tsk, just imagine how adorable that kid’s going to be. Mom, have you prepared those little bellybands for our baby? I heard you found several aunties who know embroidery and are tinkering away at stuff.”

Xiaoqiang took the exact tactic Qian had just used on him and applied it to Mrs. Yu, with immediate effect. As soon as Mrs. Yu thought about a chubby granddaughter, she lit up.

”How could I not prepare? Your second sister‑in‑law is about to give birth too; everything that needs to be prepared has to be ready. This time your grandma personally designed the patterns. We found several centenarian elders—healthy all‑rounders—to make little clothes and shoes for the kids by hand. Those tiger‑head shoes are really something. We’ve prepared sets for both boys and girls. Your second sister‑in‑law’s having a boy, your eldest sister‑in‑law already told me. As for yours, we still don’t know what it’ll be, but it doesn’t matter if it’s a boy or a girl. I’ve prepared more for boys, but the girl’s stuff is truly beautiful...”

Mrs. Yu really hoped Qian would have a girl. There were already several stinky boys in the family, but she also knew that in the Yu Family line, there tended to be more sons than daughters, and girls were precious. If this generation ended up without even one, she couldn’t force it.

”Yes, yes, you’re right, Mom. Boys and girls are the same—we’ll love them all the same.” Yu Minglang echoed her smoothly.

The topic veered off toward babies again. Once Mrs. Yu started talking about kids, most of her anger disappeared. Looking at how meek and honest Qian seemed, she couldn’t bear to scold her. ”The chicken soup’s almost cold, hurry up and drink it.”

If beauty hadn’t gone to the restroom just then, Mrs. Yu would’ve almost forgotten why she came over in the first place. This couple was way too good at sweet‑talking. At the moment, the old lady’s mind was running smoothly with images of little babies, and even if she tried, she couldn’t work up any anger.

Following his mom’s gaze, Yu Minglang knew she’d remembered the whole dog issue again, so he had a flash of inspiration.

Time to unleash the big move!
