Return of the Antagonistic Lady Boss

Chapter 1183: Chapter 1155: Calling for Reinforcements—My Lang

Smack!

The invisible slap left the babysitter extremely embarrassed, her face flushing red and pale, unable to find a way out.

Mrs. Yu vented all her anger on her. The Yu Family were protective of their own. What Qian did this time wasn’t quite right, but after all, she was her daughter-in-law. Was it anyone else’s place to make judgments?

The real issue for Mrs. Yu now wasn’t that Qian had used such a bizarre way to sneak off with their pet. She was more worried about Qian’s safety with a dog rumored to bite. Hopefully, her daughter-in-law wouldn’t get hurt.

After much thought, Mrs. Yu decided to contact Yu Minglang immediately and prepare a car to head to his house. Qian and the pet needed to be separated!

Yet, at this moment, she couldn’t get through to Yu Minglang—his line was busy.

Qian was calling Xiaoqiang for help while driving, which was why Mrs. Yu couldn’t get through.

”Honey, there’s a big issue. Can you come to my place after work tonight? And don’t tell anyone!”

”What’s the matter?” Hearing her words, Yu Minglang got anxious.

”Actually... it’s nothing major...”

”Talk! Don’t keep me on edge!”

Qian cleared her throat, ”Well, I believe someone like you who’s fond of Romance of the Three Kingdoms understands this: ’Long united must divide, long divided must unite.’

”I’ve only seen things divide after a long union, never unite after a long division. Get to the point!”

Qian was flustered.

He’s so sharp. How am I supposed to follow up on that?

”I just want to say, if there’s a minor friction between a mother-in-law and daughter-in-law, it’s no big deal. Whether a daughter-in-law and mother-in-law can get along ultimately depends on the husband’s skills. A capable husband will mediate the relationship. An incapable one lets conflicts escalate. I, of course, believe my husband is very capable, so—”

Yu Minglang was starting to understand somewhat.

Was she saying, indirectly, that she had a little disagreement with Mom?

”It’s okay, our mom has always been fond of you. Now that you’re pregnant, she surely won’t stay mad at you. I’ll talk to her when I get home, it’ll be alright. Our mom isn’t someone to hold a grudge for years over something trivial.

”Honey, it’s not that simple. This time... I may have gone a little too far. But believe me, I acted with the greater good in mind and the spirit of not giving up and not abandoning ship!”

Qian was lavish with her words to win Yu Minglang’s support.

”Alright, all this sounds like a scene from a war movie. So what’s the actual reason?”

By now, Yu Minglang wasn’t that nervous. His wife was not one to be rash, and his mom was a very easy-going person; things rarely escalated.

But after Qian recounted the entire incident, even the always calm Yu Minglang felt a bit unsettled. It was giving him a headache.

”You’re saying... in front of our mom and a stranger, you claimed there was a tiger in the sky, then ran off with the pet?!”

Pregnancy indeed changes a woman’s personality, such a whimsical act just didn’t seem like her.

”What was I supposed to do, not run? Don’t think that it’s a foolish move; actually, it’s also...”

Truly foolish.

Qian couldn’t continue.

In that situation earlier, if she hadn’t taken a risky but humorous approach, and seriously explained to the mother-in-law, they’d surely have ended up in discord. Though this way, the mother-in-law might be angry, after thinking about it she probably would find it amusing, easing the tension with laughter.

”You’re something else. Alright, I got it. Don’t go back home just yet. Mom’s definitely waiting for you there. Our elder is pretty stubborn; although she usually seems happy-go-lucky, when it comes down to dangerous issues, she won’t be easy to talk to. Let me handle it.”

Yu Minglang thought for a bit, then asked, ”Why would the pet bite you?”

He didn’t believe the pet would bite Qian. Back then, even when Qian mischievously bullied the pet by making it eat peppers, it only chased her around the house, never actually attacking her, just playing.

”I don’t know. Today its behavior was just strange.”

Qian wanted to discuss the pet matter with Yu Minglang; discussing over the phone wasn’t convenient, so they agreed to talk about it later at home.

Throughout the journey, the pet was somewhat anxious; while it didn’t bite Qian again, it kept sniffing her and occasionally barked a few times.

Qian took it to a veterinarian. After a complete check-up, the veterinarian confirmed it had no issues. The strong smell of the pet hospital overshadowed Qian’s scent, and once inside, the pet’s anxiety eased.

Qian bought it lots of treats, unsure whether it had eaten its favorite canned food while out, and had the vet focus on whether it was safe to keep the pet during pregnancy.

”Your pet’s perfectly fine. Pets that are not left outside, don’t eat outside food, and receive regular vaccinations and deworming, are not as dangerous as imagined. Pregnancy isn’t a valid reason to abandon pets. Families abroad encourage keeping pets; exposure to pets boosts children’s immune systems. Your pet, knowing you so well and being of such good temperament, truly poses no problem.”

The vet told Qian a lot, as she often explained to pet owners, yet still some would forsake their pets, better ones leaving them with others, irresponsible ones just abandoning them. Many people still didn’t trust science.

Qian nodded repeatedly, realizing that not resisting pressure to keep the pet earlier was wrong. Either don’t adopt one, or if you do, be fully responsible. She resolved to withstand the pressure this time.

Upon arriving at her other apartment, Qian’s first move was to change clothes. Once she did, the pet calmed, stopped being agitated, and obediently lay far from Qian, making her feel a bit sad.

”Hey, Tea! Come here!” Qian beckoned it while holding some canned food. Reluctantly, it approached slowly.

Qian didn’t know if its distancing was due to her previous act of abandonment, or perhaps guilt over biting her pants. Regardless, she no longer wanted to part with it; the bond they’d formed was hard to let go of.

When Yu Minglang returned from work, he saw Qian feeding the pet. As he entered, both Qian and the pet turned their heads toward him with gleeful expressions. The rare warmth of the scene moved even Xiaoqiang, who had missed the pet during its absence.

”You little rascal, why did you bite your mother?” Yu Minglang pointed at Qian’s pants. Following his hand, the pet seemed to understand and ran away.

”Dare to flee from guilt? Come back here!” Yu Minglang wanted to reprimand it, but Qian stopped him.

”Deal with educating it later, let’s first think about how to handle the situation with Mom.”
