Return of the Antagonistic Lady Boss

Chapter 1181: Chapter 1153: Getting Slapped by Reality

Qian left the Mu Family. The Mu Family wasn’t far from her second brother’s place, and Qian wanted to go over to see her freshman cousin and, while she was at it, check on Beauty, whom she hadn’t seen for several days. The family Beauty had been sent to lived in the same compound as her second brother; seemed like they were even her second brother’s boss.

As soon as the car pulled into the courtyard, she saw something happening up ahead.

Qian had just driven into the complex when something shot toward her from the front. Her brows lifted in delight and she hurriedly hit the brakes.

She had barely gotten out of the car when that familiar, affectionate bark rang out.

”Woof~~” ℯℯ𝑙.

”Green Tea Beauty!” Qian was over the moon. After not seeing it for days, she suddenly felt this little rascal was inexplicably adorable.

Behind Beauty was a kid bawling their eyes out, looked under ten, with a nanny-looking woman beside them. The two were running so hard they were panting.

”Oh my lord, this dog runs way too fast, it’s about to kill this old woman...” The middle‑aged nanny stopped, gulping for air.

”Woof~” Beauty had spotted Qian’s car from far away and sprinted over, practically itching to throw itself into Qian’s arms. Seeing it, Qian cheered up as well; before the dog even reached her she was already laughing as she asked:

”Have you been behaving? Have you been causing trouble for people here?”

”Woof!”

One look at its green‑tea‑style innocent expression and Qian just wanted to laugh. She knew perfectly well it couldn’t have been well‑behaved. It also looked a bit thinner. Back home this thing had been warned by the vet that Xiaoqiang was overfeeding it, yet here it had clearly lost a lot of weight.

”And you are—?” the nanny asked. The kid wanted to come over and hug Beauty, but Beauty just whipped its head around and barked furiously—Don’t touch me!

The child was scared and started crying even harder. Qian quickly ordered Beauty to sit nicely.

”I’m Beauty’s owner. Because I’m pregnant I temporarily boarded Beauty with you these few days. How has it been doing lately?”

As soon as the nanny heard Qian was the owner, she got worked up.

”Oh my lord! So this is your damn‑bringer dog? It’s so disobedient, barking all over the house, and anything you turn your back on for a second it chews to pieces. You know our master and madam are rarely home, I’m the one doing the cleaning upstairs and downstairs. Ever since it came there hasn’t been a single peaceful day.”

Qian had asked with genuine apologetic concern, but the moment she heard ”damn‑bringer dog,” her face sank.

The nanny kept going. ”Misbehaving at home is one thing, but it won’t play with our little master either. The child just wants to play with it for a bit, and it starts barking and chewing things again, it’s outrageous. What dog behaves like this? Even if you drag some mutt out of the village, it would know its own master. This one simply can’t be tamed...”

”Sweetie, what games do you and Beauty play?” Qian bent down to ask the child.

”I want to play house with it, but it won’t play. It’s a bad doggy!”

The little girl sobbed as she spoke. Qian noticed a Mickey Mouse headband in her hand and asked, ”What’s this?”

”I wanted to put it on her. I even bought a lot of dresses for her, but she doesn’t like them. She’s bad!”

Listening, Qian felt a sharp ache, and when she saw Beauty’s lowered head, she felt terribly sad inside.

Animals have their own personalities too. Beauty is no different. Making her do things she hates must make her feel horribly wronged. The ones who can speak are all slick‑tongued, calling her a bad dog, and Beauty has no way to defend herself.

”This dog is just rotten to the core—picky eater, won’t eat this or that, howls at the outside world every day. It’s enough to drive a person crazy,” the nanny kept complaining.

”Sweetie, Auntie is going to take Beauty home. Later Auntie will have someone send you a well‑behaved pet, okay?”

”You’re taking her away?”

”That’s right. She’s part of Auntie’s family. I only boarded her with you because it wasn’t convenient before. Now Auntie is taking her back. To say thank you, Auntie will give you another pet, how about it?”

”You can’t do that. If you want to take her away you have to check with our master and madam. If they don’t agree, then you can’t take her,” the nanny said.

Qian didn’t bother being as polite to her as she was to the child. She straightened up and looked at the nanny coolly.

”Taking her away right now is me giving you a way to save face. If I end up seeing your employers, I will definitely tell them you abused Beauty—locking her outside to freeze whenever they’re not home, and likely skimping on her food. Are you sure you want me to talk to your madam?”

At Qian’s words the nanny’s expression changed. She stared at Qian in disbelief, as if silently asking: How do you know?

Qian snorted. ”From the two full minutes I’ve spent observing you, I can conclude you have a fairly selfish personality. People like you are prone to over‑inflate their own interests. Given this personality trait, I can further infer that, in order to keep Beauty from adding to your workload, you’ve subjected her to actions including but not limited to confinement and being driven out the door. I also have reason to suspect you’ve been tampering with Beauty’s food. Should I share all that with your employers?”

”Y‑you, you’re slandering me out of thin air!” the nanny said, guilty and flustered. She was sure that whenever she did these things there were no adults at home, and the child didn’t understand anything. Beauty knew, but she was just an animal—how could she speak?

So how did this woman, with that Beauty‑mark on her forehead, know all of it?

”You know perfectly well whether I’m slandering you.”

”Who are you, exactly?”

”Me? I’m a psychologist. What kind of person you are and how your personality affects your behavior—one look and I have a rough idea. Remember this: even when you hit a dog, you look at who its owner is. As for today, I’m taking Beauty home, and how you explain that to your employers—I don’t need to spell it out for you, do I?”

Qian knew the family themselves had no ill will toward Beauty. It’s just that, since ancient times, it’s always been easy to meet King Yan, but the little devils are hard to deal with. When the master isn’t home, it’s effortless for the household staff to pull something underhanded with Beauty.

She’d only used a bit of verbal bluffing, and already had fished out plenty of information. This nanny’s level wasn’t even in the same league as Qian’s. Now that Qian knew Beauty wasn’t doing well here, there was no way she’d leave Beauty in this house again.

While Qian was out‑talking the nanny, Beauty was circling her, tail wagging. She was thrilled to see Qian. But once that wave of happiness passed, Beauty seemed to smell something bad on Qian, and suddenly started barking madly at her.

She looked downright fierce. Qian was in the middle of arguing with the nanny when Beauty’s explosive barking cut in; she turned to look at Beauty. At first she thought Beauty was barking at the nanny—after all, this nanny had definitely bullied Beauty plenty behind the scenes.

When Qian realized Beauty was actually barking at her, her mood tanked on the spot.

Hey, you dumb mutt! Can’t you see Mama Qian is standing up for you? What’s with the infighting?

Qian felt like Beauty had just slapped her in the face. In that moment she could practically feel the nanny’s flash of schadenfreude. She tried to signal Beauty with her eyes, hinting that it should give her a little face, but Beauty only barked more viciously.

Beauty barked a few times, and when Qian still didn’t react, she got anxious and did something Qian never saw coming!
