Return of the Antagonistic Lady Boss

Chapter 1172: Chapter 1144: Congratulations, Yu Minglang

The stuff is just too much; Qian can’t manage it, so she called over a security guard to help carry it. Qian complained to her mom while watching him carry it.

”Mom, the supermarket has everything these days. If you want something, just buy it now. Why are you buying all this stuff?” The place she’s living in isn’t that big, and there’s no room for anything.

”What do you know? All you care about is money! Some things money can’t buy! Do you think getting this stuff was easy for me? These walnuts were collected by me and your Uncle Liao driving into the mountains and buying them from the locals! And this chicken was bought from free-range farmers in the village. Can you buy that with money? You never know what kind of junk the stuff outside is fed with; there’s no nutrition at all.”

At home, Qian’s mom is always worried about her children, constantly considering these things. Recently, she got in touch with Xiaoqiang’s mom and started learning about health preservation from her, always steaming colorful steamed buns and such.

”But there’s a limit, isn’t there? Just talking about these walnuts, ten or twenty pounds would be enough. Don’t you think a hundred pounds is too much?” Qian felt sorry for the security guard, drenched in sweat while carrying stuff, and offered him a drink, but the kid waved it off.

”How’s it too much? Liumei needs walnuts to boost her brain during pregnancy, right? And you and Fugui, both dealing with mental labor every day, analyzing who’s mentally disturbed or thinking everyone’s sick. If you don’t eat something to boost your brain, you’ll fall ill yourselves. From now on, you should eat two walnuts a day, okay?”

Qian rolled her eyes, ”I know, nagging as soon as you get here.”

”Am I nagging, or are you being irresponsible, slacking off and making me worry?” Qian’s mom said as she moved the stuff she brought into the kitchen. As soon as she opened the kitchen door, Beauty shot out, startling her.

”Beauty, go lie down in your den. This is my mother.” Qian sent Beauty away, and her mom patted her heart, then turned to scold Qian again.

”Chen Xiaoqian, you damned girl, you’re getting more out of hand!”

”...What did I do wrong? I’m busy between studies and work every day. How is that irresponsible in your eyes?”

Qian’s mom poked her forehead with her finger, ”You have the nerve to talk! Look, Liumei is pregnant already. What have you been doing? I’ve been telling you to check things properly with Minglang; you’ve been married for years—”

”Not even a year yet, how’s that ’years’?” Qian interrupted.

”It will be a year after New Year’s! Seeing how relaxed you are makes me anxious. Aside from checking on you and your brother, I’m here for an important matter: to keep you in line so you quickly get pregnant, understand? I got someone to calculate; they said the zodiac signs for you and Minglang match perfectly with next year’s zodiac. You need to get pregnant now to give birth next year. Otherwise, subsequent years’ zodiac signs will clash with yours!”

Qian’s mom believes in these things, often finding people to calculate.

”You must be full and have nothing better to do. Didn’t you enroll in senior college? How come you haven’t learned poetry, songs, yoga, dancing, yet you believe in these things?”

”How dare you say I have nothing better to do! It’s clearly you who isn’t serious! I ask you to have kids, and you’re careless about it, raising such a big mutt at home. If you’re going to have a dog, at least get a good-looking one. This mutt is so ugly...”

Qian’s mom really disliked Beauty, and Beauty wasn’t fond of her either, barking a few times at her.

”Mom, this isn’t a mutt; it’s a Labrador, a rather good breed.”

”What’s a ’Lado’? Look at its big size; seems like it can fetch things!”

Qian’er was surprised by her mom’s sudden arrival, but it soon turned into concern.

It’s not that the kitchen was filled with things symbolizing the (excessive) love of a mother; Qian was worried about explaining to her mom about how she double-crossed Zilong.

Previously, Qian teamed up with Xiaoqiang to pull off a stunt that deeply hurt Zilong. Now Zilong no longer contacts Qian, and at work, he looks at Minglang as if he wants to stare him to death.

Qian originally planned to use this tactic to motivate her brother, letting him stay until he realizes that the gift he cherished wasn’t tossed away by Qian. By then, the siblings’ conflicts would have been resolved.

Who would’ve thought her mom would suddenly arrive, disrupting Qian’s plans?

Knowing her mom all too well, if she found out about how Qian and Xiaoqiang ”bullied” Zilong, her mom might flip their house upside down, as she’s extremely doting on children and can never understand Qian.

How should she handle this...

Qian pondered long and hard, and for the family’s peace, she decided to give Xiaoqiang a heads-up, hoping to send Zilong away after the evaluation, preventing her mom from seeing him. By then, she could coax her mom away, and there’s still some time before New Year’s. That should be enough to sort things out with Chen Zilong.

At that moment, Yu Minglang called, as if he sensed her thoughts.

”Qian-bao, there’s something I need to tell you.”

”What’s up?” Qian felt nervous hearing his serious tone.

”Zilong is injured and needs a blood transfusion. His blood type is quite rare. Can you come over to get tested and see if you match?”

”What?!! What happened to my brother?!” Qian immediately grew anxious.

”You’ll get the details when you arrive. We’re at the hospital at work.”

Qian didn’t dare delay and quickly headed out. Her heart raced as soon as she heard her brother was sick. She recalled Dali mentioning during a recent surgery that their mom is Panda Blood, so Zilong might have inherited it. She worried about how the kid was doing.

”Qian’er, where are you rushing off to?” Qian’s mom asked as she saw Qian hurrying.

”I—” Qian hesitated a moment.

She shouldn’t tell her mom; she’ll surely get worried.

But having never tested her blood type, she didn’t know whether she inherited it from her mom or Mr. Chen. If she doesn’t match with Zilong, having her mom match would be the safest option.

Weighing the pros and cons, Qian decided to bring her mom along.

She explained the situation to her mom on the way. Her mom turned pale with fear and almost fainted on the spot.

The mother and daughter rushed to the hospital and met Yu Minglang. While getting their blood drawn for testing, Yu Minglang explained what happened.

The company gave the newcomers half a day off, and Zilong went out with colleagues to buy things and saved a child. An advertisement board fell with a child below it, and Zilong rushed over to push the child away, getting hit himself. He’s undergoing emergency treatment now.

Qian’s mom nearly fainted, and Qian’s face was pale as well.

”Don’t worry; he wasn’t hit on the head. It’s a leg injury, and he’s lost a lot of blood, needing a transfusion. Our blood bank doesn’t have enough of this blood type, so we asked Qian to come.” Yu Minglang reassured them while Qian’s mom folded her hands in prayer, alternating between chanting ”Buddha bless” and ”Amen,” utterly scared and lost.

”The results are out, Auntie’s blood type matches.” Before the nurse finished speaking, Qian couldn’t wait to interject.

”What about mine? If mine matches, draw from me and don’t touch Mom’s, she’s getting old.”

She’s now just worried about her brother, eager to donate blood right away.

”Your situation is a bit special; we suggest drawing from Auntie—congratulations, you’re going to be a dad!”
