Return of the Antagonistic Lady Boss

Chapter 1176: Chapter 1148: What Does the Beauty’s Strange Behavior Mean? (Fourth Update)

When Qian and others were wrapping up the beauty handover, a Cadillac drove up and parked by the roadside. Mu Xiaofeng, the daughter of Qian’s patient, stepped out of the car and called Qian’s name.

Qian recognized her right away. Mu Xiaofeng’s father was terminally ill, and Qian had been providing psychological comfort and end-of-life care for him. Mu Xiaofeng was very satisfied with Qian’s treatment. Just recently, she had given Qian a piece of ginseng, which was the one that Yu Minglang had almost ended up drinking in Qian’s place.

”Mr Chen!” Mu Xiaofeng exclaimed with delight as she got out of the car.

”Mrs. Mu, what a coincidence.” Qian knew exactly why she had come over when she saw her.

Sure enough, once Mu Xiaofeng saw Qian, she directed her driver and bodyguard to unload things from the car.

”I heard you’ve been resting recently, so I came specifically to check on you. How have you been?” Mrs. Mu asked.

”I’m doing well, things are stable now. You’re too kind, there’s really no need to bring anything.” Qian really feared this sort of thing.

”Our old man has been mentioning wanting to see you these past few days. Ever since you started visiting our home, his health has visibly improved day by day. Although his illness doesn’t leave him much time, he’s set on only having you. I was thinking—”

Qian understood and nodded. ”Mrs. Mu, you can rest assured. Even though I’ve announced that I’m not taking on any new clients for three months, I will continue with you. I won’t drop it halfway through, nor will I entrust anyone else to take care of Mr. Mu. We’ll continue our treatment this week.”

She was a very responsible doctor. Having accepted payment from someone, she would never abandon their care halfway through.

Mrs. Mu sighed in relief upon hearing this. She had heard that Qian wouldn’t be taking on new clients for the next three months and was worried about not having an appropriate psychologist for her father. So she hurried down in person, considering phone calls were insincere, and brought gifts along.

”Hearing you say this puts me at ease. Mr Chen, you’re really exceptional. Since you started looking after my father, his health has improved day by day. I know his illness isn’t curable, but having him with us a bit longer brings peace to us children. These gifts are just a small token, please accept them.”

Mrs. Mu also understood that having Qian, who was pregnant, continue treating her father was difficult. It was Qian’s first pregnancy, and her family was concerned. Still, her father just couldn’t change doctors, especially with a terminal illness.

”No need for the gifts. Treating patients is my duty, it’s all part of the job. Please take the gifts back. I will keep my promise and accompany the old man until the end.”

As Qian was chatting with Mu Xiaofeng, Mrs. Yu didn’t want to interrupt her and signaled her classmate to take the dog into the car.

But for some reason, when Mu Xiaofeng got out of the car, the dog seemed agitated. Mrs. Yu didn’t notice its abnormal behavior and thought it was simply reluctant to part with Qian, so she and her classmate forcibly loaded it onto the car.

The moment the car door closed, the dog suddenly started barking violently at Qian’s direction. It even tried to slam into the door, attempting to get out.

”Hey, good dog, don’t be scared. I promise I’ll take good care of you. There’s a little sister at my house, and you’ll surely play well together,” Mrs. Yu’s friend reassured while petting the dog, only provoking it to bark even more.

It anxiously scratched the car door, even using its head to bump against it, persistently barking as the car drove farther away.

Upon hearing the barks, Qian almost shed tears, feeling terribly reluctant.

She thought the dog was merely unwilling to leave home and didn’t realize that it was actually trying to warn her. Even the smartest dog couldn’t speak, leaving its true intentions unreadable.

”Mr Chen, is that the dog you raised?” Mrs. Mu asked.

Qian nodded.

”Yes, at the moment, it’s not suitable for me to raise a dog, so someone else is helping me take care of it.”

Seeing Qian tearful, Mrs. Mu tried to console her, ”Mr Chen, don’t be sad. Dogs have intuition. Once you’re able to bring it back, it will always remember you.”

”Does Mrs. Mu like raising dogs?” Qian didn’t want anyone to see her current reluctance, so she shifted the topic. She noticed that Mrs. Mu always used the term ’dog’ instead of ’dog’, as Minglang would say it suggests she loves dogs.

”I don’t raise any, they’ve actually caused me plenty of trouble. But, how should I put it, I always respect competitors.” Mrs. Mu gazed afar, seemingly lost in memories.

There are always people scared of dogs; Qian assumed Mrs. Mu was one of them, so she didn’t delve further, exchanged pleasantries, and parted ways, heading home with her mother-in-law.

Without the dog, the home felt incomplete. Qian sat sadly on the couch, hugging a pillow and staring into space. Seeing how upset she was, Qian’s mom and Mrs. Yu went into the kitchen to prepare something for her, while Dalong came over to chat with Qian.

”Sis, are you feeling like crying? You can cry on my shoulder.”

Qian tossed the pillow at his face, ”Why aren’t you lying down? Be careful not to end up limping, or I’ll get you a crutch and make you Iron Crutch Li!”

”Hehe, if I became crippled, I’d at least be Iron Crutch Chen,”

Dalong just wanted to distract her from thinking about the dog. But after talking with him for a while, Qian became gloomy again.

”Sis, what’s wrong?”

”Every mention of Iron Crutch Li makes me think of the dog.”

”... How are those related?!” He’d gone to all that effort just to keep Qian from thinking about it, but how did she end up there again?

”Iron Crutch Li is one of the Eight Immortals, right? Lv Dongbin is also one of the Eight Immortals. ’The dog doesn’t recognize a good heart when biting Lv Dongbin’—isn’t that the expression?”

Dalong helplessly banged the pillow with his head, ”I give up, you always find a way!”

Is it that his sister is too clever, or are pregnant women all this imaginative?

”Sometimes, when it’s here, it’s annoying. But when it’s gone, it hurts inside. Habits are truly scary things.” Qian couldn’t bear to remember the dog’s gaze as it left.

”If you miss it, bring it back! I quickly searched online, and it seems pregnant women aren’t absolutely restricted from having dogs. Then my brother-in-law can take the dog for a blood test to check for parasites, right? Mom and your mother-in-law can’t be with you all the time. Once those two older ladies are out the door, you can bring it back right after!”

Dalong’s words hit the right chord, and Qian burst into laughter.

Qian’s mom came out with fruit but overheard their talk. She got upset and threw a banana at Dalong’s head.

”Mom, what was that for? I’m still a patient!” Dalong complained.

”Your leg’s hurt, not your brain. Why are you talking nonsense to your sister? If you keep babbling, I’ll cripple your other leg, and you won’t even make it back to work. You’ll end up begging under a bridge, clutching a broken bowl!”

Dalong dared not speak anymore; menopausal women are terrifying.
