Return of the Antagonistic Lady Boss

Chapter 1179: Chapter 1151: See It As You Should

Facing Yu Minglang’s doubts, Qian’s mom was also bewildered.

”I don’t know either; I just said I would give the melon she didn’t eat to her brother, and then she cried. Qian’er, don’t cry, mom will buy you more, okay?”

”It’s not about the melon, not about...” Qian had been crying quite a bit today, as if all the tears she held back in her past life’s hardships are now flowing in her happy moments.

Yu Minglang couldn’t bear to see her tears. He quickly told Qian’s mom and Dalong, ”It’s okay, I’ll calm her down. You two go out and watch some TV.”

”Wife, what’s wrong?” Yu Minglang hugged Qian to comfort her, seeing her crying like a tearful mess.

Qian couldn’t say she was crying because she felt guilty towards her mother, as that was something from her past life.

”I just... feel that pride and prejudice may be very harmful.”

Some things seem so obvious, just like in her past life she thought her mother didn’t love her due to the way she suffered, but looking back, there were many unavoidable circumstances in life.

Back then, if her mother had even a bit of capability, she wouldn’t have ignored her. Hearing her mother’s teary-eyed talk about her dream today touched Qian deeply.

At that moment, she felt her mother’s unconditional love, even if it was just a dream; it made her mom anxious.

”Yeah, yeah, if you think pride and prejudice is harmful, I’ll rip that book up. If Jane Austen wasn’t already gone for hundreds of years, I’d point my finger at her and ask why she wrote something harmful that made my wife cry!”

Xiaoqiang, truly deserving of the nickname ”Erha,” with just one sentence managed to stop Qian’s tears which were moved by maternal love. She looked at him in confusion.

”What are you talking about?”

It felt like one of them was from Venus and the other from Mars; their thought processes were never on the same track!

”Didn’t you say ’Pride and Prejudice’ was harmful? Then I’ll find the one on our bookshelf and tear it apart for you to vent! Even its author Jane Austen won’t be spared; wife, I’ll draw a little figure and write the author’s name for you. How about you poke her? As long as you’re happy, I’ll do anything!”

Yu Minglang thought Qian got upset after reading that world-famous novel, so he tried to cheer her up even by venting childish anger on the original book.

Qian eventually was amused by him, ”Why are you so silly?”

”Because my wife is smart.”

”You’re annoying~” Qian wanted to hit him, and Yu Minglang immediately handed her a pillow, ”Wife, use this, don’t hit me with your hand, otherwise your hand might hurt!”

As soon as Qian saw him, she couldn’t cry anymore. With such a jokester by her side, it was impossible for her to feel depressed.

The pair standing outside the door heard Qian and Yu Minglang joking inside, and finally felt relieved.

”Mom, here’s my salary card. Take it and buy my sister a truckload of melons, please don’t let her cry.” Dalong handed over the card, his straightforward mind couldn’t figure out why Qian cried, the reason seemed to be about the melon.

”Stay aside, do you think I, your mom, lack the money for a few melons?” Qian’s mom also couldn’t quite understand why Qian was crying, but she saw that her son-in-law was truly good to her daughter; Qian stopped crying very soon after Yu Minglang entered the room, and now she’s even laughing.

”Alas, all of you have grown up... no longer need your old, useless mom anymore.”

Qian’s mom sighed, relieved her daughter had a good marriage, yet a little sad.

She felt a bit unnecessary being there, considering Yu Minglang was still sleeping in the living room, and remembering Qian just said she didn’t need her care, her heart felt a little sour.

”Mom, what are you muttering about again?” Dalong asked.

”I mean, you and your sister are doing just fine here, looking after each other. When your leg heals and you go back to work, I’ll go home, don’t upset your sister, okay?”

”Eh? Mom, didn’t you say you’d take care of my sister until she gave birth?”

Upon hearing this, Dalong silently lit a candle for his brother-in-law; seeing his brother-in-law’s tall figure curled up on the sofa during midnight bathroom trips made Dalong feel pity.

If mom didn’t crash at sis’s place, brother-in-law could come home and hug his wife after work; with mom around while Dalong heals, brother-in-law could only sleep on the sofa hugging the beauty, but now the beauty was sent away, pitiful brother-in-law had nothing to hug.

So hearing that mom was going home, Dalong was quite surprised.

”Your sister is fine, doesn’t need a couple of unsweet melons from me.”

Qian came out just in time to hear that, her tears just consoled by Yu Minglang welled up again, ”Mom, I’m not rejecting you, I’m—”

She couldn’t say what she was feeling.

The emotions were too complex, filled with mother-daughter feelings from both lives; how could mere sentences express them clearly?

”I know, mom feels like maybe now that I’m old, there might be things I do that end up being counterproductive. Minglang takes good care of you, you’re about to be on winter break soon, so mom won’t stay here.”

”Mom...” Seeing her mom like this, Qian felt even worse inside.

Qian’s mom wiped her tears, ”Why are you crying, I didn’t say I won’t take care of you. When you’re further along, I’ll come back; these months will be up to Minglang.”

”Mom, how can you say that? Taking care of Qian is my honor, there’s no need to be so polite.” Yu Minglang clearly saw that both mother and daughter were concerned about each other.

It’s just that people of different ages think differently, so there might be a small generation gap, but Qian’s heart contained her mother, and her mom loved this daughter.

Qian’s mom stayed a few more days until Dalong’s leg could move before she returned home; after this affair, Qian felt like her affection towards her mother seemed even deeper. She herself was about to become a mom, and would experience the feeling of watching a child grow up not needing you anymore, but regardless, this love always remained.

Qian’s appetite was decent; although her taste slightly changed, she generally ate well. The house maid cooked three meals a day without repetition, plus there were snacks brought over by her mother-in-law, while Qian herself mostly felt sleepy and lacked energy, nothing significantly changed.

This term’s courses ended for winter break; Mrs. Yu suggested Qian to rest well at home; since the first-year senior was also in late pregnancy, Mrs. Yu resided at the senior’s house long-term, while Mr. Yu occasionally dropped by to check on the two sons.

Mrs. Yu did consider letting both daughters-in-law return to Q City, given the home was spacious enough, but worried about the emotional impact of spousal separation. Besides, Qian had Mr. Mu to look after in Lishi; she said he’s a special patient whose life was counting down, if she left or changed doctor at this time, Mr. Mu definitely couldn’t handle it.

Mrs. Yu had no objections there; being a doctor herself, she understood the reasoning of saving lives, but Qian’s mom objected. Qian’s mom felt since Qian was a pregnant woman, she shouldn’t handle cases that could cause fatalities at any moment; should something tragic happen during her pregnancy, it felt inauspicious.

She aired this opinion a few times over the phone to Qian, yet was always dismissed, reasoning that once accepted a case, giving it up midway was not an option; moreover, she herself didn’t believe in superstitious talk, it was profession first.
